In this paper I have tried to map some of existing Knowledge Management tools with Knowledge creation SECI model designed by Nonaka and Takeuchi (1995). In this Knowledge creation SECI model Knowledge follows a cycle in which tacit knowledge is ‘extracted’ to become explicit knowledge and explicit knowledge is‘re-internalized’ into tacit knowledge.
I have started with simple definition of Knowledge management followed by Nonaka and Takeuchi’s model generally known as SECI model. Steps of this model are Socialization, Externalization, Combination and Internalization. In between that I have also mentioned basic idea about tacit and explicit knowledge.
Finally mentioned a little details about some of Knowledge Management tools i.e. Brainstorming session, Storytelling, Community of Practice, Taxonomy, Social networks, Blog, Forum, Knowledge Portal, wiki, Knowledge Café, Appreciative inquiry, Reward & Recognition, Best Practice Transfer etc and how these tools are related to SECI model.

2. What is Knowledge?
Facts, information, and skills acquired through experience or education;
What is Knowledge Management?
Knowledge Management (KM) means achieving organizational objectives
by making the best use of knowledge. Or we can say it is about getting the
right knowledge to the right person at right time.
Knowledge is the perception of the agreement or disagreement of two ideas—John Locke
(1689) BOOK IV. Of Knowledge and Probability. An Essay: Concerning Human Understanding.
3. Types Of Knowledge
Explicit Knowledge: Codified knowledge that
can be transmitted in formal, systematic language.
“We can know more than we can tell”- by Michael Polanyi (1958)
Tacit Knowledge: Tacit knowledge is kind of
knowledge that is difficult to transfer to another
person by means of writing it down. The term first
used by Michael Polanyi.
4. Knowledge Creation SECI model
Ikujiro Nonaka and Hirotaka Takeuchi propose a model of the knowledge creating process to understand
the dynamic nature of knowledge creation, and to manage such a process effectively: the SECI model.
There is a spiral of knowledge involved in their model, where the explicit and tacit knowledge interact with
each other in a continuous process. This process leads to creation of new knowledge.
5. Socialization:
it is a process of sharing experiences and thereby creating
tacit knowledge such as shared mental models and
technical skills
Externalization:
Converting tacit knowledge to explicit knowledge by developing
concepts and models.
Combination:
Combination is a process of systemizing concepts into a knowledge system.
Internalization:
Internalization is a process of embodying explicit knowledge into tacit
knowledge.
