In an effort to improve the lives of District
children, Strengthening Families and
Communities Coalition - DC hosted a
community forum in October.
The forum, held Oct. 17 at the R.I.S.E.
Demonstration Center, offered strategies
and tips to help young people deal with
various crises associated with having a
loved one in jail or prison.
The community forum was the result of
a partnership between Strengthening
Families and Communities Coalition -
DC, Office of State Superintendent of
Education (OSSE), Far Southeast Family
Strengthening Collaborative, East River
Family Strengthening Collaborative, Inc., and
Global Peace Foundation - USA.
Attendees included public officials, social
workers, group home leaders, and family
members. Topics included children’s
potential behavioral issues, supports in
