• It is a methodology for dividing the computer resources
to more than one executon environment by applying
more concepts like parttoning, tme-sharing, machine
simulaton and emulatonn
• Includes autonomic computng & utlity
computng(utlized by customer needs in payment basis)
• Reduces the burden of workloads of users by centralized
adminn
• 3 layers i)virtual machine ii)infrastructure iii)physical
resources(storage, n/w, servers)

• Provides secured for running distrusted applicatonn
• Helps in building secured computng platormn
• Provides illusion of h/w
• Simulates n/w of independent computersn

• Three kinds of server virtualizaton-

• Storage virtualizaton:(storage array, disk array or flter)
– Use this concept for beter functonality & have more featuresn It uses
special h/w & s/w which provide fast & reliable storage for computng and
processing datan Provides block and fle accesses storagen it contributes
high in trafc mirroring, migrates LUNs(logical Unit Number) from one disk
array to another without downtmen
– 2 types:
• block virtualizaton-separates the logical & physical storagen Greater fexibility for
admin
• File virtualizaton-dependencies b/w the nosn & accessed at the document
level(retained)n Optmize usage of storage & server consolidatonn

• Can improve the productvity and efciency by performing

• Sharing & reallocaton of storage space among servers
• Adding & reassigning the storage median
• Network speed, reliability, fexibility, scalability & security
can be optmized using n/w virtualizatonn
• main scenarios
– A shared experimental facility (running multple experiments at
same tme)
– Long-term soluton for the future internetn
Virtualizaton clustering
• Introducton to cluster- as a collecton of organizatons and insttutons, co-located in a
geographic entty and provide a product or service
• Defniton of clustering-a type of parallel or distributed system consists of a collecton of
interconnected computers and is used as a single, unifed computng resourcen
– Forming cluster means collecton of computers
– A task/job can be executed on all computers or a partcular computer in a clustern
• Benefts of clustering
– Scientfc applicatons
– Large ISPs and e-commerce enterprise with large database
– Graphics rendering and animaton
– Fail-over cluster
– High availability load balancing cluster
• Virtual cluster descripton-the workspace meta data(composed of workspace meta data ,
which is represented as an XML schema) & implementaton which is necessary to
characterize a new type of workspace called a virtual clustern
– Two types 1)head nodes (for s/w &operaton) 2)worker nodes(both are similar , but given diferent
names)
Grid, Cloud& Virtualizaton

– Grid computng-secure resource sharing in accessing computer s/w and
data in a dym
– Grid computng & virtualizaton
• virtualizaton is not a soluton for enterprises to manage their resources although it
provides richer capabilites in managing and moving the Os in diferent h/wn
• Helps to run multple workloads in a single machinen
• Can do suspending, resuming and migratng images in run-tmen
– Using virtualizaton in grid computng-various levels
• Resource provider no longer want to consign to a designated grid middleware, but can
set up middlewares on demandn
