2. Intro – Cause Effect
Diagram
Also known as Fishbone (due to their shape) or
lshikawa Charts (named after the person who
developed this tool), Cause-Effect diagrams identify
potential causes and help to direct problem-solving
and data-collection efforts towards the most likely
causes of observed defects.
When we have a serious problem, it's important to
explore all of the things that could cause it, before
you start to think about a solution . Cause Effect
Diagram helps a lot in such case.
3. Cause-Effect Diagram
Cause Effect Diagram is made from a problem
statement by using following steps :
1) Main Problem Statement
The root effect
2) Work Out the Major Factors Involved
These are then drawn at an angle to the root
effect
arrow
3) Detailed Causes
List all the detailed causes within each of the
major
categories
4) Analyze the diagram
4. Why to use cause-effect
diagrams ?
Create a common understanding
Team-based problem is extremely effective, but
requires a common understanding of the problem.
Cause-effect diagrams are a very practical
collaboration technique.
Identify how problems affect the business
So that you can focus on the most important problems
first and make informed decisions.
Find root causes
So that you can maximize the effect of your changes.
Find vicious cycles (negative reinforcing loops)
So that you can break them, or turn them into positive
reinforcing loops (good stuff leading to more good
stuff, instead of bad stuff leading to more bad stuff)
5. Drawbacks of Cause
Effect Diagram
They create divergent approach to problem
solving.
Cause Effect Diagram are typically based on
opinion rather than evidence.
The major disadvantage is simply that it doesn't
solve any problems. It can only help in identifying
possible causes of problems and does not offer any
possible solutions
In addition, it is not very good at pointing out which
of the possible causes is most likely or most
important.

7. Identification
1. Insufficient Practice
“Practice Makes Man Perfect“. But lack of practice is
the major cause of performance issues among college
undergraduates. Time constraint is one of the factor
.The long college hours leave sport enthusiast short of
time and their practice session are deeply affected.
Injuries is another, it leaves practice hours paralyzed .
Injuries occur due to improper playing techniques
which also lead to poor performance.
2. Funding and Facilities
Funding is major contributor to any sporting cause. It
facilitates a superior quality of amenities both playable
and rigid . More funding represents more support and
thus more encouragement . Funding or lack thereof is
vital cause for the l a c k l u s t r e

performance of undergraduates.
3. Coaching
Coaching is the heart of any sport . A good coach
is a beacon on which guides us to victory.
Absence of proper coaching leads to poor
performance and improper playing techniques.
9. Solution
1. Practice Enough
Practice hard so as to face even the worst times
successfully. Avoid injuries as far as possible. “Time
and Tide Waits for No Man” , so have proper time
management . Colleges should give preference to
sports lectures, that is to have at least two sports
lectures a week. This might also help students to
freshen up their mind as well body after long
college hours , excluding their practice.
10. Solution
2. Funding and Facilities
Funding is much needed so as to get access to
necessary equipment, facilities needed for the
better performance of students . Even students
should take part in fundraisers . Sponsorship can be
consider as an option here. Even small savings
from students can help.
11. Solution
3. Coaching
Coaching times must be properly planned, so as
players get proper guidance of coach.
A good coach must be hired. Due to this, players
can achieve their maximum potential to perform
in crucial situation.
12. Lessons Learned by Team
Cause – Effect diagrams helps to get root causes of
the problem. So that, solutions for even the smallest
cause determined, may help in overcoming the
problem to be faced.
We get the detail of how one cause is related to
another, and by eliminating one cause we can
have a major change on others too, which
eventually slowdown the rise of problem.
We also learn about the ways to improve our
performance on bigger stage.
