Web services API
MxVision WeatherSentry offers a global weather data Application Programming
Interface (API) in the form of Web services, for both current observed weather
and historical weather for the past 72 hours. These services provide a standard
way for your programmers to integrate valuable weather data directly into your
critical software applications or websites. It is both a point-based and GIS-
based Web service, designed to Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards.
It is also compatible with common Esri®
tools and development environments,
including:
• Apache Flex®
• JavaScript®
• Silverlight®
MxVision WeatherSentry Web Services are delivered via a high-performance
computing platform to ensure fast, reliable response to requests. This allows
the weather data to be integrated into applications for spatial and temporal
visualization with great flexibility
MxVision WeatherSentry Web Services provides REST services, which your
developers and software architects can include in data applications throughout
your organization. This API provides 24/7, secure information exchange that is
mandatory in the electrical utility industry. The REST XML-based service uses
proprietary methods with authentication and SSL.

availability for all application users
Multiple formats for secure delivery
MxVision WeatherSentry Web Services provides
SOAP and REST services, which your developers
and software architects can include in data
applications throughout your organization. Both
services provide the 24/7, secure information
exchange that is mandatory in the electrical utility
industry. SOAP XML-based services use WS-
Security, authentication, and SSL. The REST
XML-based service uses proprietary methods
with authentication and SSL.
Choose the information you need
As a subscriber to our weather Web services
API, you’ll benefit from flexible access to dynamic
weather information, the way you need it, when
you need it:
• Select the forecast and observation locations
critical to your operations, worldwide
• Eliminate the need for employees to filter through
non-essential weather information
You can subscribe to hourly and daily forecasts
for the 15-day outlook, with associated actual
observations. These forecasts are updated every
hour to ensure the most current and accurate
outlook possible.
Quality-controlled hourly and daily
weather observations
Available hourly and daily parameters include those
common for energy operations and planning, such
as temperature values, heat index, humidity, wind
characteristics, precipitation type and amount,
barometric pressure, and many more.
And MxVision WeatherSentry Web Services also
provides parameters not available from free sources
— such as heating degree days and cooling degree
days, irradiance, evapotranspiration, and others —
so you always have the robust information needed
for optimized decision making and operations. In
addition, climatological data is available for locations
in North American.
Restore power faster with
lightning information
Lightning is one of a utility’s greatest concerns. It
puts crews at risk and threatens transmission and
distribution. We deliver real-time strike information
worldwide to support visualization and decision-
support for operational applications.
Real-time lightning information through our GIS Web
services uses color coding to show if lightning is
intensifying or subsiding, and displays where strikes
are the most concentrated. Correlating animated
lightning strikes with real-time local radar can help
anticipate where storms are headed.
Support your decisions with weather insight
When severe weather strikes within your zone of
influence, audio and visual alerts can be triggered
based on our real-time data. An all-clear notification
can also be set up to let you know when the danger
has passed. Plus, real-time Web services can be
integrated into smartphones and other mobile
devices to provide your field workforce with a
convenient view of weather information on
hand-held devices.
