Botox treatment brings great effect when removing wrinkles around the areas of developed muscles (square chin, calves, thigh, trapezius muscle) with injecting a substance called botulinum. Botulinum temporarily paralyzes the movement of muscle thus letting us stretch the wrinkles, and also giving time to minimize developed muscles on the chin or the calves. It can also be effective for excessive sweating.
2. What is Botox?
Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA), also called botulinum toxin
type A, is made from the bacteria that causes botulism.
Botulinum toxin blocks nerve activity in the muscles,
causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity.
They're a purified form of botulinum
toxin A, meaning there's no botulism
risk when used properly.They work
by blocking the nerves that contract
muscles, softening the appearance
of wrinkles.
3. How does Botox work?
Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles.
The injected muscle can no longer contract, which
simultaneously causes the wrinkles to relax and
soften.
It is most often used on forehead lines, crow's feet
(lines around the eye) and frown lines around the
nose. However, Botox does not respond toWrinkles
caused by sun damage and gravity.
4. Procedure:
Getting Botox treatment done takes only a few
minutes and no anesthesia is required. Botox is
injected with a fine needle into specific muscles
with only minor discomfort. It generally takes three
to seven days to take full effect and it is best to
avoid alcohol at least one week prior to treatment.
Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications should
be stopped two weeks before treatment as well in
order to reduce bruising.
6. How long does it last?
The effects from Botox will last from four to six
months. As muscle action gradually returns, the
lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and the
wrinkles need to be re-treated. The lines and
wrinkles often
appear less severe
with time because
the muscles are being
trained to relax.
7. Side effects of Botox:
Temporary bruising is the most common botox
injection side effect. Headaches, which resolves
with in a day or two. A small percentage of patients
may develop eyelid drooping. This usually resolves
in three weeks. It is advised to lay down or stay still
for up to three to four hours immediately after the
botox has been injected.
9. While all of us has to deal with wrinkles and fine
lines associated with aging, there is always a great
way to bring back that youthfulness, which makes
you stay one step ahead.
