4. The soil of Maharashtra may be grouped on the
basis of their characteristics and their
geographical distribution as follows:

5. Black soil is formed due to weathering
of basalt rock. Black soil is deficient of
nitrogen, phosphorous and organic
matter.
This soil is also known as regur soil and
also called as cotton soil.

6. Regions:
In Maharashtra black cotton soil is mainly formed in
Amravati,Akola,Buldhana,Washim,Parbhani,Dhule,Jalgaon
,Hingoli,Usmanabad,Ahmadnagar District o Maharashtra.

This soil is suitable for crops like
cotton,sugercane,fruits,wheat,jawar and pulses.
7. In the low level areas of river basin and their flood
plain, Alluvial soil are found due to continuous
deposition of the load.
These soil are renewed every year. their color is dark
brown. this soil best for agriculture

8. Regions:
The Alluvial Soil are mainly found in river basin and
coastal area. They are found in grater northen plain
lower valleys of Narmada and tapti.This soil mainly
found in rivers of
ganaga,brahamputra,narmada,tapti,mahandi,godawori,
krishna and kaveri.
9. Crops:
The main crops are
rice,wheat,sugercane
,tomato and cotton
are grown in this
soil.
10. Red Soil
In Maharashtra red soil is formed from weathering
of vindyan kaddappa,Arcian granite and geniss rocks.
This soil is red in color due to iron compound.
11. Regions:
This soil is found in
nagpur,bhandara,gondiya,chandrapur and gadchiroli
districts.
Crops:
The crops like bajra,grountnut,potato,rice,sugercane
are cultivated in these soil.
12. The Laterite Soil is found in the area where
rain fall is more than 2000 mm.
This soil is deficient In nitrogen,
phosphorous and organic matter.

13. Regions:
•This soil is found in ratnagiri, raigad,
sindhudurg, Kolhapur and satara district.
•This soil mainly found in the heights part
of the relief between amboli in the south and
mahableshwar in the north.
