The bestLog Project achieved the collection and dissemination of good logistics practices across Europe to improve supply chain sustainability. It developed online databases of case studies, education resources, and directories. It also created a European Logistics Sustainability Certificate and aims to establish an international not-for-profit logistics association called the European Logistics Association after 2010.

- The bestLog project started in 2006, financed by the European Commission with a budget of just over 3 million Euros. 9 research institutes from 9 European countries (including the ELA) have in the past 4 years been working together to establish a European Platform for the collection and dissemination of Logistics Best Practice. This means bestLog is not a research project but a dissemination project – where the results of past research are taken and made better known in the logistics community. The aim of all this is to improve logistics practice across Europe because it is perceived that if logistics practice is improved existing infrastructure will be better utilized and logistics will become more sustainable. The platform which we have created has the form of an online website which is enriched by a number of offline activities. On the platform you can find case studies explaining examples of good logistics practice. You can find Databases, among them the database of logistics education containing over 900 logistics courses from across Europe, which is helpful for firms wishing to educate their employees abroad. The bestLog Standard which is based on a number of existing process standards like ISO will be rolled out from the end of next year. A book on sustainable Supply Chain Management, also an outcome of this project is due to appear later this year, the book will be geared to students and practitioners alike, part of it will be teaching cases. And throughout the project we are engaging in intensive dialogue with the logistics community through workshops, conferences, articles and presentations at conferences like this.
