qualifications are accredited by relevant qualifications
frameworks, meaning that they have the government’s
stamp of approval and have been certified as being fit for

How does it work?
ILM views coaching mentoring through the lens of its unique
learning and development model, the ‘Knowing-Doing-Being’
framework. Rather than simply instructing academically, ILM
believes in providing you with alternate routes in order to
develop your potential in a practical, hands-on manner. The
carefully designed courses will tackle the following aspects:
Knowing Thoroughly understanding the key principals of
effective coaching mentoring.
Doing By providing you with both knowledge and resources,
we believe in enabling you to step your career up a
notch by taking full control of matters.
Being Managers who are aware of their values and those of
others shape behaviour. We believe in empowering
rather than simply instructing.
We understand the value of your time and are therefore aware
of the need to support you. To this end, ILM has a number of
support mechanisms in place such as individual tutorials, notes
and hand outs, assignments and online.
6. ILM CERTIFICATE DIPLOMA IN
COACHING MENTORING LEVEL 5
The route of study is a blended learning approach including 40 hours of Guided Learning Time, independent learning activities,
one-to-one coaching, observed coaching with feedback and dedicated support from your own Coach/Tutor.
The programme completion is between 10 - 14 months, which is entirely dependent on the time required to complete the stipulated
coaching mentoring hours as part of the programme. All lectures are 100% tutor led and will be held between 17:00 till 20:00
Course Modules
There are three mandatory units in each qualification.
For the Certificate, learners are required to demonstrate their
ability to plan, deliver and review at least 12 hours of coaching and
mentoring in the workplace. For the Diploma, learners are required
to complete an extended 100 hours of coaching and mentoring, with
multiple clients, and there is an added focus on using supervision and
reflective review to develop individual practice.
Assessment
All units will be internally assessed by the centre and
externally verified by the Institute of Leadership
Management. No units are assessed by examination. Learners
will need to show that they meet each of the assessment
criteria detailed within each unit, to the required standard
for the level of the unit. Work-based evidence or a model
assignment needs to be presented.
0.1 Understanding the Skills, Principles and Practice of Effective
Management Coaching and Mentoring
Aims to enable learners to understand the role and contribution of coaching and mentoring to individuals and organisations,
and build a business case for using both interventions in their organisation.
0.2 Undertaking an Extended Period of Management Coaching or Mentoring
in the Workplace
This module requires learners to demonstrate their ability to plan, deliver and review at least 100* hours of coaching and
mentoring in the workplace and with multiple clients, and there is an added focus on using supervision and reflective review to
develop individual practice.
*In order to gain a Certificate in Coaching Mentoring only 12 hours of coaching is required.
0.3 Reviewing own ability as a management coach or mentor
Aims to give learners the ability to critically review their own personal qualities, skills and competence.
