5. The Union Ministry for Heavy Industries is planning a change in duty structure to introduce cheaper environment friendly cars in India. The government has already initiated its talks with Tata Motors, Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki to develop mini and full hybrid vehicles. The government is also in the final stages of notifying fuel efficiency standards for the automobile sector in the country, which will be enforced from 2011 as per current environment minister Jairam Ramesh. 6. GM has announced the launch of the electric version of their small car Spark in association with Reva. Other Auto Majors are also planning to launch Green vehicles in the coming months. Most of the Consumer Durable Companies such as Videocon, Panasonic, LG and others are talking about energy efficient appliances. Nokia, Tata Indicom are talking about re-cycling of phones. Nokia has recently unveiled their new green campaign. Development of Green Buildings is the latest buzzword in the Real Estate sector. 10. TERI would celebrate the 10th anniversary of DSDS, from 5-7 February 2010 in New Delhi focusing on the overarching theme “Beyond Copenhagen: new pathways to sustainable development”.
