E Learning Presentation

Notas del editor

  1. Do you have the opportunity to incorporate Elearning into your corporation? What are some of the courses that could be considered a potential candidate for E-Learning?Clicking on link takes to the next slide, E-Learning Trends Poll 2010, How does your organization use E-Learning?
  2. Customer ServiceGeneral Business SkillsIT Skills – end users
  3. Electronic Learning (e-learning) is a term that defines a broad set of applications and processes with assistance from technology. E-learning can be defined as instructional content or learning experiences delivered or enabled by electronic technology. Functionally,e-learning can include a wide variety of learning strategies and technologies, from CD-ROMs and computer based instruction to videoconferencing,satellite-delivered learning and virtual educational networks. In other words, it is not just Web-based instruction or distance learning but includes many ways in which individuals exchange information and gain knowledge.Question: What other names are you familiar with that indicate e-learning?Answers: Web-Based Training, Computer Based Training, Distributed Learning, Virtual Classrooms, Distance Learning. Training for Dummies, Biech, E (2005) Wiley Publishing, Inc.
  4. Traditionalhas taken a lot of time and a specialized team to develop. There are tools that are appearing which allow eLearning to be developed in days or hours of finished eLearning versus the traditional weeks or months per hour of finished eLearning.Rapid E-learning is usually used to refer to a type of online delivery that is produced quickly and is intended mainly for info dissemination, not in-depth instruction. It's called "rapid" because it usually takes less time to produce than a more thoroughly designed and interactive project. This rapidity helps the training budget, but it's not clear that it always benefits the business.Rapid still requires learning design but rapid tools do mean that you can deliver faster and cost-effectively.I like the way Michael Allen summarized it in his book, Guide to Elearning, Traditional – highly produced web courses, Rapid – rapidly produced which can be either Asynchronous (self-directed) or Synchronous (guided via phone, internet, classroom).
  5. Bersin, J. (2005) Enterprise Learning 2006, Bersin & Associates. As the figure above shows, the root of the e-learning tree was Web based courseware. Now we see branches shooting off in many different directions. Dynamic media, such as video, audio, and simulations, which were nearly impossible to deploy efficiently a few years ago, have become common. The birth of on-demand learning, led by RSS3 technology, enables learners to subscribe to content and podcasts. This includes the deployment of communities of practice.RSS = Really simple syndication – used to publish frequently updated works, such as blogs and news headlines in a standard format. “webfeed”.Communities of Practice =(CoP) is a network and discussion platform of interested people to capitalize experience, share and create new knowledge and innovations. A CoP works mainly through virtual exchange via email. A CoP is per definition self-running, that means that members participate and attend voluntarily.Collaboration System=SharePoint, allows teamwork amongst people with a common goal.
  6. Bandwidth - the amount of data information that is transmitted over an internet connection. Some bandwidths even though you have a broadband connection might not be transmitting a faster rate per bits.Programming Languages – databases and other technology must consistent with other technology used by your company.Meeting SCORM compliance – Sharable Content Object Reference ModelIncreased time for development, course suitabilityProject Plan – detailed implementation plan that includes testing pre-implementation and how you plan to measure success (human and technology).

  9. Open source software = source code is available and users can use it, change it and improve it. There are no licensing fees, but you must host it, install it and train on it. An example is Audacity.Palmer, J (2008) Open-Source Applications for Designer-Developed E-Learning
  10. In conclusion, I hope that I have given you enough information so you can begin to consider adding E-Learning as an effective tool in your toolbox. We have defined E-Learning, learned a little history and previewed some examples in Captivate along with other tools that are available.
