CONTENT
• CCAFS Platform concept was initiated by
CCAFS West Africa (ICRISAT, Bamako, Mali)
• Goal:
– To promote a food-secure world through the
provision of science-based efforts that support
sustainable agriculture and enhance livelihoods
while adapting to climate change and conserving
natural resources and environmental services
INTRODUCTION
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
1. Network and interact regularly with relevant
stakeholders to develop Ghana’s priorities and
needs for adaptation to climate change.
2. Form strategic alliances for optimization of
environmental resources through inter-
institutional networking, knowledge sharing and
learning, and research.
3. Share policy status and options for climate
change adaptation and mitigation in agriculture
4. Ensure widespread dissemination of outputs and
knowledge products from evidence-based
research.
5. Identify related research needs and priorities
and conduct supportive studies to facilitate
policy and decision-making processes
6. Build capacities to enhance change and
adaptation to climate change effects at the local,
national and sub-regional levels
7. Facilitate agribusiness related activities to
enhance rural livelihoods and empowerment.
MAIN OBJECTIVE
To enhance climate change adaptation in the agricultural sector in rural
communities in Ghana through exchange of information, experience sharing,
learning to influence policy.
THE CCAFS PLATFORM GHANA
• The Platform is hosted by CSIR-ARI
• Formed in 2012 through a multi-stakeholder dialogue
• Launched on 30th July 2013 with strong ministerial support
from MESTI, MoFA and MoTI
• Registered with Registrar's General Department in Ghana
• A member of Global Alliance for CSA (GACSA)
• A member of W/A CSA Alliance launched in Mali

agriculture to CSA)
• Policy pronouncement that the sub-national platform should be scaled up
• A call on government national policy level for up-scaling the sub-national
platforms in Ghana
• Increased collaborative effort between the private sector, CSO, the public sector
to address climate change
• Conscious effort to protect the environment by developing by-laws
• The CSA action plan has mainstreamed CSA investment in agric sector
investment plan (METASIP III)
• The Draft CSA Financial Plan has become relevant input for the development of
CSA Investment Plan (CSAIP) by the World Bank through MoFA, which will be
linked to the Adaptation of African Agriculture (AAA) Initiative.

  • 3. • CCAFS Platform concept was initiated by CCAFS West Africa (ICRISAT, Bamako, Mali) • Goal: – To promote a food-secure world through the provision of science-based efforts that support sustainable agriculture and enhance livelihoods while adapting to climate change and conserving natural resources and environmental services INTRODUCTION
  • 4. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES 1. Network and interact regularly with relevant stakeholders to develop Ghana’s priorities and needs for adaptation to climate change. 2. Form strategic alliances for optimization of environmental resources through inter- institutional networking, knowledge sharing and learning, and research. 3. Share policy status and options for climate change adaptation and mitigation in agriculture 4. Ensure widespread dissemination of outputs and knowledge products from evidence-based research. 5. Identify related research needs and priorities and conduct supportive studies to facilitate policy and decision-making processes 6. Build capacities to enhance change and adaptation to climate change effects at the local, national and sub-regional levels 7. Facilitate agribusiness related activities to enhance rural livelihoods and empowerment. MAIN OBJECTIVE To enhance climate change adaptation in the agricultural sector in rural communities in Ghana through exchange of information, experience sharing, learning to influence policy.

THE CCAFS PLATFORM GHANA • The Platform is hosted by CSIR-ARI • Formed in 2012 through a multi-stakeholder dialogue • Launched on 30th July 2013 with strong ministerial support from MESTI, MoFA and MoTI • Registered with Registrar's General Department in Ghana • A member of Global Alliance for CSA (GACSA) • A member of W/A CSA Alliance launched in Mali

GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE • Secretariat established with – Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, M&E Focal Person, Accountant and Executive Member • National Core Team formed with – Representatives of 10 strategic partnership organizations • CSIR, MOFA, FAO, NDPC, EPA, UG, GMet, CSO, NGO, FBO • Expanded Members – Over 60 multi-stakeholder members – Representing various institutions and organizations • Sub-national level platforms – Comprising local level policy and decision makers (e.g. DAs, Traditional Authorities, CSOs/NGOs, Farmer Groups & Associations) – A multi-stakeholder

KEY DEVELOPMENT OUTCOMES AND IMPACTS • Knowledge on climate change and CSA enhanced among stakeholders • Deeper awareness among farmers and other actors on implication of climate change and their activities • Increased potential financial inflows into CSA (FAO support transition Ghana’s agriculture to CSA) • Policy pronouncement that the sub-national platform should be scaled up • A call on government national policy level for up-scaling the sub-national platforms in Ghana • Increased collaborative effort between the private sector, CSO, the public sector to address climate change • Conscious effort to protect the environment by developing by-laws • The CSA action plan has mainstreamed CSA investment in agric sector investment plan (METASIP III) • The Draft CSA Financial Plan has become relevant input for the development of CSA Investment Plan (CSAIP) by the World Bank through MoFA, which will be linked to the Adaptation of African Agriculture (AAA) Initiative.
