21.
22. The year is 2030 - In pairs to write a newspaper headline to
sum up the latest volunteering news
What will have changed?
What will be the big story?
Is the future bright for volunteering?
Think politically, environmentally, socially, technologically
27. “The process by which
we make decisions
about our
organisational purpose
and direction and how
we’ll channel resources
to deliver it.”
28. BIG QUESTIONS FOR THE PROCESS
1. What is our vision for society?
2. What is the role of NCVO within the voluntary
sector and in relation to volunteering?
3. What are our values?
4. What activities should NCVO do in the future?
a. What products, services and opportunities
should NCVO offer members, the voluntary
sector and broader civil society?
b. What should NCVO stop doing?
29. STRATEGY PROCESS
Phase 1
• September 2019 – June 2020
• Diagnostics, #Project1000, consultation events & member assemblies
• Exploring: vision, mission, value/behaviours, NCVO’s role
Phase 2
• May – September 2020
• Strategic choices and testing
• Exploring: detailed workshops on emerging priorities (eg, membership,
diversity, or movement building)
Phase 3
• September – December 2020
• Implementation and launch
• Exploring: operational plan, organisational structure & financial model
THREE PHASES
31. GROUP TASK
On your table groups, we have 3 questions to consider.
1. Think about the question and write a contribution on
post it note before talking as a group
2. Go around the table sharing your thoughts
3. Have discussion as you go – don’t wait until you’ve
gone round everyone!
4. Repeat for the next question
5. You have 10 mins per question.
32. QUESTION 1
1. What's the biggest challenge you face in involving volunteers?
What keeps you awake at night? (Blue post it)
33. QUESTION 2
1. What's the biggest challenge you face in involving volunteers?
What keeps you awake at night? (Blue post it)
2. What are your success stories? How does NCVO help? How
does NCVO make a difference to volunteering? (Green post it)
34. QUESTION 3
1. What's the biggest challenge you face in involving volunteers?
What keeps you awake at night? (Blue post it)
2. What are your success stories? How does NCVO help? How
does NCVO make a difference to volunteering? (Green post it)
3. What does NCVO need to do differently in the future to support
volunteering locally and nationally? (Red post it)
41. BREXIT AND VOLUNTEERING
• EU/EEA nationals will continue to be able to freely move to the UK
to live, work and/or volunteer, and vice versa for UK nationals in
EU/EEA countries until 31 December 2020 when the transition
period ends.
• After the transition period, EU/EEA nationals will be able to
volunteer in the UK if:
They have settled or pre-settled status (deadline to apply is 30 June
2021) or a visa which doesn’t prevent them from volunteering.
They are enrolled in an EU funded volunteering programme, such as
Erasmus + or the European Solidarity Corps, with a placement in an EU
country.
• After the transition period, UK nationals will be able to volunteer in
EU countries if:
They are enrolled in an EU funded volunteering programme, such as
Erasmus + or the European Solidarity Corps, with a placement in an EU
country.
Outside of these schemes, without a collective agreement in place, a UK
national’s ability to volunteer in an EU/EEA country will largely come
down to the view of the authorities of that specific country.
42. GOVERNMENT CONSULTATION: PREVENTIONS
AGAINST SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE WORKPLACE
• During the summer the Government Equalities Office launched a
consultation asking whether the current laws on protecting people from
sexual harassment in the workplace are effective and set out some options
for change.
• One of the key proposals by the Government is to give volunteers the same
Equality Act protections against sexual harassment that employees have,
with the same recourse to employment tribunals.
• NCVO ran its own consultation process with its members to get their views
on these proposals. NCVO submitted its own response to the Government’s
consultation – you can read this in full on the NCVO website.
• The government was due to release the outcome to this consultation in
January. It has now been delayed. We are unsure of when this will be
published, but hope it will be in the coming weeks.
