1. ROBOTIC COMPETITION

AN INITIATIVE BY NATIONAL LIBRARY BOARD
As part of the digital readiness efforts by makerspaces@libraries, NLB is looking for
candidates who are keen to be partially sponsored to train and enter an upcoming
robotics competition.

3. MAKEX 2019: MBOT ROBOTICS COMPETITION
In 2019 season, MakeX will hold Regional Robotics Competition in more than 30 countries and regions around the world and will
launch MakeX competition courses and organise various competition activities worldwide, spreading STEAM education among
youths. Qualified teams can enter into 2019 MakeX World Championship and compete for the 2019 MakeX World Champion.
The theme for 2019 MakeX competition is City Lights, which challenges young people to solve real-world problems we may face
in everyday situations - including environmental pollution, food safety, recycling, viral infection and more, by applying STEAM
concepts.

5. THEMES
The theme for 2019 MakeX competition is City Lights, which challenges young people to solve real-
world problems we may face in everyday situations - including environmental pollution, food safety,
recycling, viral infection and more, by applying STEAM concepts.
The Competition will be divided into 4 programs based on different difficulty levels and targeting at
various age groups. Teams design, build and program robots to compete different themed missions
along their journey, and develop innovative thinking, team-building and problem-solving skills in the
learning process.

6. MAKEX STARTER:
CITY GUARDIAN
The theme for MakeX Starter is “City Guardian”, a
multi-tasking competition for young people
between the ages of 7 to 16 years old.
It will be split into two categories:
• Primary Category – for ages 7 to 12 years old
• Secondary Category – for ages 13 to 16 years
old
A maximum of 2 participants per team is required.
Each team will have 1 mentor assigned.
Lunch bento will be provided during the competition
days.
City Guardian tests the contestants’ in three ways:
• To improve logical thinking by graphical
programming
• Learn more collaborative strategy by working
with their alliance
• Develop problem solving skills through the
implementation of electronic parts, mechanical
structure and software programming

that aims to make digital making technology
accessible to all Singaporeans.

In support of those less able to participate in this
competition on their own, NLB & Polaris would like
to offer to cover the following for up to 15 teams
(of 2 pax ea, ie 30 eligible participants):
