The ability of the present-day human to be fully aware of what’s happening in every corner of the globe owes its possibility to the efficient mechanisms operated by the transnational media corporations. For more than a century, these entities have progressively expanded worldwide thus impacting every human life with the aid of the advanced communication systems technologies such as cable, digital, satellite, and the internet that were developed in the twentieth century. It can be well said that these technologies powered up the rise, growth, and extension of transnational media corporations because they enabled them to seamlessly develop high-quality content and distribute it worldwide in real-time. This presentation is aimed at explaining the scope of this phenomenon, the entities behind it, and how such transformations have promoted global communication and at the same time it explores the criticism they face regarding their ownership, content generation and coverage. In this presentation, we also observe that the success of TMC’s lie in the billion-dollar investments, mergers, and acquisitions which have seen them combine resources with their rivals to dominate and influence the global media market – a result which has not been without disapproval from the media critics and scholars. The review questions at the end of the presentation let us ponder over the inquisitive concerns related to what is covered herein.

The theory of investment portfolios is a well defined component of financial science. While sound in principle, it faces some setbacks in its real-world implementation. Cybernetics presents an unorthodox “new” way of studying the process of portfolio management. First, the known theory is translated in cybernetic terminology. A reformulation of the investment portfolio problem as a cybernetic system is proposed where the Investor is the controlling system and the portfolio is the controlled system. Also the portfolio controlling process is dissected in several ordered phases, so that each phase is represented as a subsystem within the structure of the controlling system Investor. Second, various known models of investors are competed systematically on a unified data track. Among the many proposed approaches for managing an investment portfolio there is one generating possible solutions to the investment portfolio problem using multi-stage selection. Third, by heuristic restructuring new models of investors may be assembled, which in turn are to be competed as well.

With this paper the authors review BUILDING BRIDGES, a model of communication based on two axes, the facilitator of the communication and the person(s) communicating. Starting with a review of the theory and focusing on the notion of noise or barriers to communication, the authors explore then elements of knowledge on the subject of communication, before presenting their model, BUILDING BRIDGES, applying it to the facilitation of communication in a context of a coaching relationship.

Nearly 70% of people are concerned about the propagation of fake news. This paper aims to detect fake news in online articles through the use of semantic features and various machine learning techniques. In this research, we investigated recurrent neural networks vs. the naive bayes classifier and random forest classifiers using five groups of linguistic features. Evaluated with real or fake dataset from kaggle.com, the best performing model achieved an accuracy of 95.66% using bigram features with the random forest classifier. The fact that bigrams outperform unigrams, trigrams, and quadgrams show that word pairs as opposed to single words or phrases best indicate the authenticity of news.

I successfully defended this study in August 2017 for my Ph.D in Organizational Systems from Saybrook University, Oakland, Calif. Future directions involve training workshops for compassionate communitas, storied systems design, and health systems for organizations wanting to improve their care of each other.
