Este documento explica los diferentes grados de los adjetivos y adverbios en inglés. Describe los grados positivo, negativo, comparativo y superlativo. El grado positivo simplemente describe una cualidad. El negativo la niega. El comparativo compara dos cosas, usando sufijos como "-er" o "more". El superlativo expresa el grado máximo usando sufijos como "-est" o "most". También cubre el comparativo de igualdad usando "as...as".

POSITIVO
Hace referencia
al grado más
simple de la
cualidad, por
ejemplo
small.- pequeño
fast- rápido
intelligent -

beautiful- hermoso
NEGATIVO
Son aquellos que
describen
cualquier cosa en
su expresión
negativa, por
ejemplo
aggresive- agresivo
annoyed-pesado.
bad.- malo
bad-tempered-
malhumorado.
Adverbios
POSITIVO
Expresan
circunstancias de
cualidad, modo y
cantidad. Describen
al verbo, por ejemplo
carefully -
cuidadosamente
Excitedly-
emocionadamente

Hacen que la

SUPERIORIDAD
Añadir al adjetivo el sufijo "-er“ Se aplica a
monosílabos.
Small - smaller. Fast - faster. Tall - taller.
Si termina en –e, solo agrega “r”.
Large-larger
Si termina en “y”, cambiar por “ier”.
Easy- easier
Se añade la palabra “than” para comparar
Mary is taller than Emily
Jhon is faster than Clark
Para los adjetivos que tengan dos o mas
silabas se utiliza la palabra “more” delante del
mismo. De igual manera para los adverbios.
Frank is more intelligent than Joseph.
She travels more frecuently than her sister.
INFERIORIDAD
Se forma con el adjetivo intercalado entre la
construcción "less+adj/adv+than"
(menos...que), aunque es más usual encontrar
la comparación de igualdad en forma negativa
(que tiene el mismo significado).
He's less young than you / Él es menos joven
que tú
He's not as young as you /
Él no es tan joven como tú (más usual)

Los monosílabos
se les añade
“–est”, y el
articulo “the”
delante.
Tall - the tallest
Smart- the
smartest
Long - the longest
Si terminan en –
y, cambiarla por
“–iest”
Happy – the
happiest
Funny – the
funniest
Las palabras con
mas de dos silabas
se les añade la
frase “the most”
Intelligent – the
most intelligent
Dangerous – the
most dangerous
Se utiliza la frase
“the least”
Famous – the least
famous
Interesting – the
least interesting
Los superlativos
expresan el grado
máximo de un adjetivo o
adverbio.

as pretty as (tan bonito/a
como)

(Ella es tan bonito/a como su
mamá.)
They are as tall as their
father. (Ellos son tan altos
como su padre.)
It’s as bright as the sun. (Es
tan brillante como el sol.)
Cuando usamos el
comparativo de igualdad, el
adjetivo no cambia de forma
como lo hace con los otros
grados de comparación.
