LATVIAN SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDIES IN LATVIAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS
IN THE 2012/2013 ACADEMIC YEAR
In accordance with bilateral agreements on co-operation in education and science, the State Education
Development Agency (Valsts izglītības attīstības aģentūra – VIAA) offers scholarships to students, researchers
and teaching staff of several countries for studies in Latvian higher education institutions (HEIs) in the
2012/2013 academic year.
Only citizens from countries which have signed an agreement on co-operation in education and science can
apply for the Latvian government scholarships. These countries are: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium
(Flanders Community and French Community of Belgium), Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech
Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Republic
of Korea, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia,
Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Vietnam.

21. APPLICATION PROCESS
September 2013 INTAKE
Step 1 Student register for intake based on the required qualification with their
documents
Step 2 English /Maths Test – Interview 21st January
Step 2 Test result 15th February
Step 3 Send copies of students’ documents to the University 28th February
Step 3: Document Verification and Result by 15TH March
Step 4: Conditional acceptance letter. 25th March
Step 5: Student Pay University fee by 30th March
Step 6: University issue acceptance letters and other supporting
documents so that students could start to prepare their
visa documents. 15th April
Step 7: Students apply for resident permit (this process is 2 phased) 25th April
takes 8 to 10 weeks - Receive Visa by 15th July
Step 8: Students depart for intensive language programme 01st August
and orientation programme
Step 9: Begin intended study program 15th September
