- Training Rationale: Through Pre-pilot work in Southeast Michigan, CBO’s previously engaged in benefit access assistance through MiBridges needed additional support to increase their outputs. This will be accomplished through: 1. Professional development of a training curriculum in partnership with DHS, MPCA, the Food Bank Council, UWSEM and MAUW which is compiled by an experienced curriculum specialist 2. On-going technical assistance by the Regional Coordinator, the Associate Coordinator and a trained and dedicated team of AmeriCorps members 3. Participation in regular information sharing meetings with other participating CBO’s through the Region 8 Voices for Action coalition Capacity building Rationale: Organizations selected to participate in the pilot were able to demonstrate the capacity to increase their benefit access program, as well as an ability to build additional capacity for greater reach. Grants were awarded based on CBO’s proposed infrastructure needs and innovative plans to expand scope and reach. Grants ranged from $7,500 to $10,000 Examples of how CBO’s will invest these dollars include purchasing of equipment, mobilization of application assistance, and streamlining of intake processes Evaluation Rationale: UWSEM pilot will provide an opportunity to collect valuable information on the effectiveness of outreach methods, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of best practices. Performance metrics will be measured using a formal reporting structure captured monthly through an Online Data Management (ODM) system. UWSEM will analyze and provide feedback and support based on information from the CBO’s to assist in overcoming barriers and instill best practice methods. Professional evaluation conducted by Public Policy Associates will be used to provide quality quantitative and qualitative information that will help inform the state-wide rollout, ensuring expansion maximizes resources and sustainability
