PROSPERITY WITHIN THE UK: SUB-NATIONAL INEQUALITY
• The UK Prosperity Index maps the geographical
distribution of prosperity within the UK.
• Sub-national indices go beyond the global Index in
charting how prosperity is shared within a society, not
just globally.
• The 2015 UK Index highlighted a number of serious
regional inequalities. In particular, it showed the lack of
prosperity in Wales compared to the rest of the UK,
and the comparatively strong performance of
Northern Ireland, which has traditionally been viewed
as highly deprived.
• It also demonstrated the presence of a notable urban-
rural divide.
