FOLKLORE GUARANI MBYÁ INDIAN TRIBE
Guarani‐mbyá culture survives and is expressed through rituals and its knowledge is passed between genera ons. It is
based on a deep respect for life, for the gods and a strong connec on with the natural environment. Guarani carries the
spirituality, love for the earth and nature, preserving their customs and tradi on.
The Indigenous culture encompasses several aspects that nowadays are very undervalued due to the decima on of the
people and the lack of wri en about their culture .
Currently we are living a busy life and this takes parents to need to leave their children in schools and kindergartens. The
rou ne and the job are decreasing the me of a en on from parents to children, hindering for parents they can take
care of feeding their children more closely through a healthy diet.
By trying to incorporate in theses families the indigenous habits which were forgo en, this project aims to develop a
product which that encourages healthy ea ng habits in children, using as reference the indigenous wisdom and all of its
rela onship with nature and health.
In this project you are required to design an item that should be a device to assist in the feeding of children. The product
should involve the basic ergonomics requires, e.g. safety, comfort. And also it should be a rac ve for children and
encouraging healthy habits, always remembering the connec on with the culture of Guarani‐mbyá culture.

3. LEGENDS
The legends of the indigenous people are fantas c stories full of supernatural mystery linked to witchcra
and magic. In the tribes of indigenous people these stories are very important and have the power to
indoctrinate young and ski sh indians.

4. CELEBRATIONS
The celebra ons make reference to rituals such as harvest, lack or excess of rain and the birth of children. The influence
of astronomy is very importante and the ac vi es usually include singing, praying and dancing. The "costume" is body
pain ng with pical symbols.

5. MUSIC
Indigenous people have a spiritual rela onship with music and they love it. They play in
celebra ons for plan ng and harves ng, puberty rites and religious ceremonies.

6. CLOTHING
Usually they live naked except in winter when they cover up with "poncho". They also dress up very colorful clothes
made of co on planted by them. Indigenous people paints and ta oos their bodies with black and red ink to dis nguish
the tribes or religious ceremonies. The feather headdresses are plen ful and the use of the lower lip labret means virility.

7. CRAFTWORK
The main ar s c expression is showed in u li es and toys made of ceramics, sculpted
wood and braided bamboo.

8. feeding
In addi on to agricultural products such as corn, beans, pumpkin, sweet potato and peanut, the indigenous people
also eat beef that they hunt, fish that they fish and reap fruits. The first vines in Brazil were cul vated by them.
They plant yerba mate and drink fermented beverages made by them from corn, cassava or berries.
