Social media first appeared in 1972 when the first email was sent. As years went on we saw and heard of an ever changing world evolving around the World Wide Web. Geocities was the first online community that allowed residence in Los Angeles to communicate with one another. By the time we reached the Millennium we were able to connect with individuals all over the world. (Curtis, 2013)
According to the Merriam-Webster online encyclopedia, social media is a form of electron of electronic communication through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content. (“Merriam-Webster,” 2014)
Billions of people around the world are using Social Media. People are using Social Media to connect, give and get advise, network and even generate talk about their company. Facebook currently has more than 25 million small business pages.(Sterling, 2013) These companies have the opportunity to connect with their current customers as well as prospective customers.
Now that so many companies have chosen to partake in the digital world it has become more and more important for these companies to become transparent. Who they are, what the stand for and their culture is on display. If these companies stray from who they claim to be, their customers are right there to remind them. (Gordhamer, 2009) As mentioned my previous slide, there is an incredible amount of companies using Facebook to establish their presence. Being able to search, read reviews and in some cases “follow” a company allows consumers to be aware of up to date information of your business. Social Media also always you to establish a brand for yourself. Through a website and other social media platforms you can begin to build a brand for Northwest Technologies.
With over one billion users on Facebook alone the opportunity and decisionto reach customers through social media seems very obvious. Once you have made the conscious effort to emerge into the social media realm you will begin making a name for yourself. And once you have established a presence you will want to be accessible. Responding and ensuring that presence will result in a human component that customers appreciate and respond to.
Once the decision is made and there is a plan in motion the integration of Social media into the Northwest Technologies can begin. Planning what sites makes sense for your company and your targeted audience is crucial. Having a plan of action will soon result in your ability to reach the masses and stay connected with established customers and even reach those that might not know you yet!Thank you
