RENOWNED LEADERS THROUGH THE AGES

                Great leaders? YES
       Great communicators? ABSOLUTELY

                             www.hamrocollege.blogspot.com
FACTS ABOUT LEADER

No one is born as a leader. However they are all around us. In the community, at work, at school.
Leaders are everywhere. They are the heads of families, coaches of teams, business leaders,
 mentors, organizational decision-makers.

We admire these leaders. They influence and inspire us to walk in their footsteps.

And, so, we should commit our self to become one.

Finally, it isn’t just what leaders know that enabled them to lead. They had a voice. They could tell
their story. They could listen and answer. They didn’t just accomplish, they communicated.

So let’s find our voice. Learn to process ideas in the midst of discussion. Train our self to listen
attentively. Learn to give feedback – and accept it. Let’s organize, plan, deliver and follow up. We
need a place where all the ingredients were there, and someone would guide us along the way.

We have found that place. We have found a community of learners and the path to leadership.

We are the leader – and we can make it happen.

STRATEGIES FOR BECOMING A BETTER
            SPEAKER

                     www.hamrocollege.blogspot.com
1.PLAN APPROPRIATELY
• Think how you'll structure what you're going
  to say.
• You need to intrigue your audience from the
  beginning.
• Start with an interesting statistic, headline,or
fact that supports to what you're talking
about and resonates with your audience. You
can also use story telling as a powerful
  opener.
                                 www.hamrocollege.blogspot.com
2.PRACTICE
• Seek opportunities to speak in front of others
• Practice it plenty of times alone, using the
resources you'll rely on at the event, and, as
you practice, tweak your words until they
  flow smoothly and easily.
• Do a rehearsal in front of a small audience or
in front of a mirror, this will help you calm
your jitters and make you feel more
  comfortable with the material.
                                www.hamrocollege.blogspot.com
3.ENGAGE WITH YOUR AUDIENCE
• Ask, leading questions and encourage people
  to participate and ask questions.
• Pay attention to how you're speaking.
• Don’t get nervous, you might talk quickly.
This increases the chances that you'll trip
over your words, or say something you don't
  mean.

                              www.hamrocollege.blogspot.com
Contd.
• Force yourself to slow down by breathing
deeply. Don't be afraid to gather your
thoughts; pauses are an important part of
conversation, and they make you sound
  confident, natural, and authentic.
• Avoid reading from your notes. Instead, try
to memorize what you're going to say.

                               www.hamrocollege.blogspot.com
4.PAY ATTENTION TO BODY
            LANGUAGE
• Stand up straight, look people in the eye, and
smile. Don't lean on one leg or use gestures
  that feel unnatural.
• Don’t speak behind a podium when giving
presentations, they put a barrier between
  you and the audience.
• Walk around and use gestures to engage the
audience. This movement and energy will
make you seem more active and passionate.
                                www.hamrocollege.blogspot.com
5.THINK POSITIVELY
• Positive thinking can make a huge difference
to the success of your communication,
because it helps you feel more confident.
• Use affirmations and visualization to raise
your confidence. Visualize giving a successful
  presentation. Use positive affirmations such
as "I'm grateful I have the opportunity to
help my audience" or "I'm going to do well!"

                                www.hamrocollege.blogspot.com
6.COPE WITH NERVES
• Stop thinking about yourself, Instead, focus
on your audience. Concentrate on the
  audience's wants and needs.
• Use deep breathing exercises right before
  you speak.
• Think your speech as a conversation. Focus
on one friendly face at a time, and talk to
that person as if he or she is the only one in
  the room.

                                 www.hamrocollege.blogspot.com
7.WATCH RECORDINGS OF YOUR
          SPEECHES
• Record your presentations and speeches.
Improve your speaking skills by watching
yourself , and improving in areas that didn't
  go well.
• Look at your body language: are you swaying,
leaning on the podium, or leaning heavily on
one leg? Are you looking at the audience?
Did you smile? Did you speak clearly at all
  times?
                                 www.hamrocollege.blogspot.com
Contd.
• Pay attention to your gestures. Do they
  appear natural or forced?
• Look at how you handled interruptions, such
as a sneeze or a question that you weren't
prepared for. Does your face show surprise,
hesitation, or annoyance? If so, practice
  managing interruptions like these smoothly,
so that you're even better next time.

                                www.hamrocollege.blogspot.com
KEY POINTS
• Plan appropriately.
• Practice.
• Engage with your audience.
• Pay attention to body language.
• Think positively.
• Cope with your nerves.
• Watch recordings of your speeches.

  1. Welcome to the Toastmasters refreshed brand! Toastmasters International unveiled a new logo, tagline and positioning on Wednesday, August 17, 2011; the first day of International Convention. The rebrand is a significant step forward in achieving the mission of Toastmasters International. By creating a consistent identity across the globe, we ignite efforts to build membership and increase recognition of the organization. This consistency will inform prospective members, regardless of location, that Toastmasters is the leading organization dedicated to helping them become the speakers and leaders they want to be. While this is not a radical change, the rebrand will take a concerted effort to make the transition across all districts and clubs. In this presentation I’m going to share with you: An overview of branding. The reasons why a rebrand was necessary. The results of the research conducted to identify Toastmasters’ in the market place and in the minds of members and prospective members. The Toastmasters brand position and visual system. Club’s role in the brand refresh.
  2. Out of proactive research with our membership and in the marketplace a pattern emerged. Leadership development was one of the organization’s best-kept secrets, so we began by identifying some of the common traits of some of the world's most renown leaders.
  3. Take a look at these leaders. You know who they are – and it is clear to us that these individuals are leaders. It also clear to us that these people are great communicators .
  4. Read slide.
  5. So now that we have seen the new look of Toastmasters – what is a club’s role in the Toastmasters brand refresh?
  6. As a fellow member of a club we’ll need to apply the new brand through the materials in our meetings – the brand portal will give us access to a lot of these materials including the new agenda. We’ll also need to update our website. We’ll want to reinforce the new brand through consistent application in our club’s messaging and visual communications. By following the District and Club Brand manual we’ll be able to determine whether are communications are on-brand. Also something we’d love to hear is your leadership story. Take time to think about how Toastmasters has helped you and please share it with the club!
