ADORNED WITH A SHIELD IN THE MIDDLE.
• SYMBOLIC SIGNIFICANCE: THE WHITE
VERTICAL STRIPE REFLECTS THE VALUE OF
THE ESSENCE OF PURITY, WHILE THE RED
STRIPES ARE THE EMBLEM OF THE RED
BLOOD OF THE VALIANT SOLDIERS, WHO
GAVE THEIR LIFE TO WIN INDEPENDENCE FOR
THE COUNTRY.
THE COAT OF ARMS
• IT CONTAINS THE PICTURE OF THE NATIONAL RESOURCES OF THE
COUNTRY. IT INCLUDES A THE BEAUTIFUL “QUINA” TREE IN THE
UPPER RIGHT OF THE SHIELD, WHOSE MEDICAL CHARACTERISTICS
HAVE MADE WAY IN FIGHTING MANY DISEASES. ON THE UPPER LEFT
CORNER OF THE SHIELD, THERE IS A VICUÑA (AN IMAGE OF THE
NATIONAL ANIMAL OF THE COUNTRY), WHILE THE LOWER PORTION
OF THE SHIELD SHOWS A GOLDEN CORNUCOPIA SPILLING OUT
GOLD COINS. SYMBOLIZING THE RICH NATURAL RESOURCES OF THE
COUNTRY.
• SYMBOLIC SIGNIFICANCE
• THE COAT OF ARMS IS THE EMBLEM OF THE ABUNDANT WEALTH AND
PRESTIGE. THE COINS OF GOLD COMING OUT FROM THE
CORNUCOPIA SHOW THE PRIDE THAT THE COUNTRY HAS ON ITS
MINERAL WEALTH. THE SURROUNDING LEAFY FRAGMENT
SYMBOLIZES THE VAST AND RICH FAUNA, THE FREEDOM THAT THE
COUNTRY ENJOYS AFTER INDEPENDENCE AND THE PRIDE WITH
WHICH IT IS LIVING.
THE NATIONAL ANTHEM
• THE ANTHEM WAS PERFORMED BY ROSA MERINO
PUBLICLY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE NIGHT OF
THE 23RD OF SEPTEMBER 1821 IN THE THEATER
OF LIMA.
• THE LYRICS WERE WRITTEN BY JOSE BERNARDO
ALCEDO.
