• Only .03% of the information is available in the traditional search
engines or Surface Web
• Information is not hidden on purpose
3. THE DARK WEB
• Data are intentionally buried
• Accessible only when using a special browser software
• People remain anonymous in the dark web
• There are both good and bad activities in the Dark Web
5. THE GOOD SIDE
• Home to alternate search engines, e-mail services, file storage,
file sharing, social media, chat sites, news outlets
• There are also sites in the Dark Web that provide a safer
meeting ground for political dissidents and others who are on
the fringe of society
• The Dark Web is good for people living in countries with violent
or oppressive leaders
• Human rights and freedom of information are ranked one of the
most commonly accessed materials
6. THE ONION ROUTER
• Using a special software called The Onion Router
(Tor)
• Tor is an encrypted technology that helps maintain
anonymity online
• Hidden sites end in .onion
