Evaluation of unit 21
1. Evaluation for unit 21
Unit 21 is about doing our own personal project. We had the choice of doing any of the
previous units again e.g. music video, photography short film etc. I chose to do a music
video because my first music video I did wasn’t as id liked it to be so I thought I could do
another one to see if I could improve my skills of filming and editing a music video. I chose
the song ball and biscuit by the white stripes because I had the idea of someone being
drugged and having to go to school, so that song fitted the description because of the lyrics
matching the idea of drugs. Although the lyrics match the video, the tempo is so much
faster than the video in some places because certain guitar solos don’t match the pace of
the video. For example when Dan (the character) is walking down the corridor the music is
too fast for the pace that Dan is walking at.
Compared to my initial ideas, my final version was nothing like the way I planned it. Some of
the ideas I had could not be filmed because I didn’t have the right equipment or the shot
was near impossible to take. The general idea of the character (Dan) being spiked worked
but I was unable to edit everything so it seemed the way it had when I pictured it. In the
plan I said that I would have different masks for a whole class full of people, but because
people had their own projects to do, I only had a few people to help with my music video.
The production of my music video was harder than I thought because for the first week Dan
was ill so I was unable to film anything apart from the POV shots. Then I was unable to meet
Dan at all over the Easter holidays that I was meant to be filming at my house. This set me
back for 3 weeks’ worth of filming so in order to get my music video done anywhere near
the time that I was supposed to have it finished by, I had to come in after school and film
and then go back to my house and film. This gave me limited time to edit all of the footage
so the end result was nowhere near how it should have turned out.

2. On the table above different people have reviewed my music video. The positive feedback
that I gained has really helped me to realise the flaws in my video. Although the strengths of
my video stand out, such as the effects on some of the POV shots, the weaknesses are
significant because of the way the camera was not stabilised in some shots and were shaky
for example when I was filming Dan running down the hill I was standing on my longboard
and going down the hill made the camera quite shaky because of the bumps and turning to
avoid cars.
This screenshot shows the scene I just described and the camera missed out a lot of Dan
running because it was shaking so much but this was the best and last take that I was able to
film due to timing. If I were to do it again I would stabilise the images so it would have a
cleaner image and I would make sure I would
have enough time to get everything done.
I reallylikedthe transitionfrom the shotof Dan
intothe POV shot of the school entrance because it
was cleanerthanI thought. If I were to doit againI
