In designing a new plan the district should continue
to consult the NETP, the Texas LRTP, and the NCLB
Act. To address the needs of the future of education
the district should also definitely consult the Horizon
Report and address the 3 new pillars of 21st Century
Learning.
15. Horizon Report
The Horizon Report contains 6 categories to move our
education system to a new and improved global
learning system.
Cloud Computing
Mobiles
Game-based Learning
Open Content
Learning Analytics
Personal Learning Environments
(Johnson & Adams, 2011)

Learning Pillars
There are 3 Pillars that address making our schools suitable for
21st Century Learners.
Pillar #1: “I’m only one of my students’ teachers, but I’m the
most important because I teach them to connect to all the
others.” Implication area: Instruction
Pillar #2: “My students should learn from me how to learn
without me.” Implication area: Curriculum
Pillar #3: “My students’ knowledge lies not only in their
minds but in their networks.” Implication area: Assessment
(Mancebelli, 2012)
17. Westwood ISD
Westwood’s future technology plan will hopefully
move us closer to becoming an innovative school
that includes the model classrooms of the future,
classrooms without walls. Global and collaborative
learning is the way to ensure that our students are
ready for an ever-changing world.
Academics First! Excellence Always!
