[ACADEMICS]
Language Arts
* Please continue to review at home all the letter
sounds and names we have done thus far. The
children will be tested on l, t, s, i, n, a, c, k, e, h.
* This month, we will learn the names and sounds
for the letters – h, m, d, g, o, u, and f. Please help
to focus on your child’s printing formation as
well.
* Sight words – look, love, to, the, I, it, in, is, on,
ay, and, big, play, we, will, you, yes, me, mom,
and no. Please have your child look for these
words when you are reading.
* Journal writing/ Writing and Illustrating class
books/ Rhyming books to make and read.
* Make connections to stories.
The Boy’s Scary Pumpkin
Dear Kindergarten Parents,
In October, the children enjoyed exploring both
apples and pumpkins in our inquiry units. The
children have been investigating pumpkins,
carving jack o’lanterns, tasting roasted seeds and
exploring with their senses. No one really liked the
guts.
We will begin the month with our All Saints Day
carnival. November will involve some oral testing
for the report card. I will be asking the children to
recite the Hail Mary prayer and to do the sign of
the cross. The end of the month will bring us the
first Sunday of Advent.
* Poem recitations – Five Senses – Recite on
Monday, November 4th. Jesus Sees Me – Recite on
November 18th.
* Oral reading of simple pattern books.
Math
*Recognize numbers to 10 – counting forwards
and backwards.
* Sorting familiar objects and explaining the
sorting rule.
* distinguish between repeating and nonrepeating patterns and identify the part that
repeats; Identify a missing element in a pattern.
On October 28th, we had guests from Net
Ministries into speak to us about our virtue this
month, Humility.
*We will also on measurement with a focus on
the terms shorter, longer, almost the same and
comparing lengths. We will also create patterns
using length.
We have also been to Mass a couple of times and
the students are doing a great job of participating
in the Mass.
* Towards the end of the month we will start to
look at 3D shapes. We will look at shapes in our
environment and describe them with our senses.

2. ENVIRONMENT AND COMMUNITY
AWARENESS
This month, we will finish off our unit on senses.
Then we will begin a unit on the body. The
children will learn about the brain, heart, lungs,
ribs and intestines. We will discuss ways to
protect them and how to eat healthy.
Citizenship and Identity
We will duscuss how we can care for people and
care for things in the environment. We will
continue to learn what it means to be unique.
Reading
We enjoy our visits to the library. Mrs. Gruber is
picking great books for us. We have also been
readingmore independently in class and reading
with the grade three class and the grade four boys
every other week.

I want to remind you again of our class
website. It is www.kwarcop.com. It will now
have a new section on homework, scholastics,
and will be posting a write up with the pictures
to let you know what we are doing in class.
Thanks again to Mr. Lucente who has created
our webpage.
Winter
Although it is not winter yet, with this recent
snow it is important to practice getting
dressed for it. If you can please ensure your
child has a hat, mitts and snowpants when
there is snow on the ground. Students will be
encouraged to leave snowpants at school to
ensure they are here as students go out for
recess on most days unless it is extremely cold.
