And I am going to take you on a journey today to the cusp of Northern Ontario
About a 5 hour drive north of my counterparts on highway driving
That is often characterized by icy roads that are monopolized by transport trucks
The potential hazard of giant moose
And of course, the breathtaking scenery

So, one might ask, what role do I have here? How do I contribute to my community?
I am a community developer….but what does this mean?
I work alongside community members in an effort to build a strong, sustainable community. My experience focuses on….
Service-learning initiatives such as Canada’s leading youth program Katimavik
Through education of all levels from students with developmental disabilities to community college
Working in this field can be emotionally challenging and requires a strong support network
Of family and friends
As well as keeping active in the outdoors
To gain international exposure to the community development field in hopes of broadening my experience
To learn more about Central America, its culture and social fabric
And to continue my academic interests in human rights and community leadership
For me, Rotary international represents these altruistic goals, joining communities from across the world
Such as the fundraising dinner and auction that is organized annually
The Christmas boxes that provide many local families with food and gifts during the holiday season all by community donation
And new, innovative ideas like the backyard makeover where raffle tickets will be sold in hopes of being the lucky winner to show off their yard this summer
And lastly, programs like the Group Study Exchange, are promoted with great pride as an important investment with today’s young professionals…providing me with this opportunity today to speak to you about my goals, my community and to learn about yours
