2. Introduction:
• When you obey the gospel you
become a new creation in Christ.
2 Cor. 5:17; Acts 18:8; 2:38; 8:37
– Born again… John 3; 1 Peter 1:23
– Our new outlook is fresh and joyful!
Galatians 2:20; Philippians 4:4
• We need to be concerned about
our spiritual health too. 1 Tim. 4:8
• So we build a new self from the
inside. Romans 12:1-2
3. Building A New You Begins With
Proper Knowledge
•2 Peter 1:5 “But also for this very reason, giving
all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue
knowledge”
•Our virtue (Courage) is of little value without the
knowledge to go along with it! Romans 10:1-3
•Without the proper knowledge of God we will be
destroyed… Hosea 4:6-7
•We should pursue knowledge from our childhood
throughout our old age! Prov. 4:5-7; Acts 17:11
•We might be worldly wise but destitute of the
knowledge of God. 1 Cor. 1:21, 23-24; 1 Tim. 6:20
4. Proper Knowledge Is Commanded:
•Commanded by Peter:
2 Peter 3:18 “but grow in the grace and
knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ…”
•Commanded by the apostle Paul:
Romans 16:19 “For your obedience has
become known to all. Therefore I am glad on
your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is
good, and simple concerning evil.”
1 Corinthians 14:20 “Brethren, do not be
children in understanding; however, in malice
be babes, but in understanding be mature.”
•see also Hebrews 5:12-14
5. Things We Need To Know:
• The Will of God – (Matthew 7:21)
Eph. 5:17; Romans 6:17-18; Col. 1:9-10
• The Love of Christ:
Eph. 3:17-19; 1 Cor. 13:13; Jn. 14:1-3; 1 Cor. 13:8
• The Hope of God’s calling:
Eph. 1:18; Heb. 6:19; Eph. 4:4
• The Greatness of His power:
Eph. 1:19-22; 1 Cor. 6:14
6. The Source of Our Knowledge:
• The Treasures of wisdom and knowledge are
in Christ (Col. 2:3).
• These Treasures of wisdom and knowledge
are only obtained through study.
Psalm 119:104; 2 Tim. 2:15; 3:15
Eph. 3:4 “by which, when you read, you may
understand my knowledge in the mystery of
Christ)”
7. Results of Knowledge:
• It should cause us to grow… 2 Peter 3:18
– How? 1 Peter 2:1-3
• It increases our responsibility…
Luke 12:41-48
James 4:17 “Therefore, to him who knows
to do good and does not do it, to him it is
sin.”
8. Conclusion:
• We are often responsible for our own
ignorance. Rom. 1:28; Mt. 13:15
• Eternity will be determined based upon our
knowledge of God’s word and how we
then apply it in our life.
• We should realize how little we know and
strive to know more!
Mt. 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger
and thirst for righteousness, For they
shall be filled.”
