Introduction
• A hotel is “Home away from Home”.
• A place where a bonafide traveler can receive food & shelter.
• Security of guest & his property is of great concern for the hotel.
• The management of any place of work are legally bound to provide a hazard-
free, safe and secure environment to their employees.
• One of the basic need of the hotel to plan safety and security plan for the hotel,
its property & belongings.
• At the same time is able to plan an efficient & effective system for guests & his
belongings in terms of protection from mishaps, such as fire, theft etc.

Upgradation in Technology
• Advanced CCTV Cameras:
– Clear Night Vision
– High Resolution camera
– Auto focus OR Face Recognition
feature
– Tag and Track system
– Sound Recognition
– Gait Recognition
– Monitoring activity with software
• Updated Key Cards:
- More safer than keys in terms of
tracking them.
- Can be easily activated and de-
activated.
- Keeps records of entry and exit
time of staff and guests.
- Even records either guest key
card was used or staff’s key card
was used.
Upgradation in Technology
• ZAPLOX integrates mobile key
with ASSAABLOY locking:
– 1 Application, Multi- Functions.
– Mobile access functionality for
guests through RFID technology.
– Key distribution is very easy.
– Includes mobile check-in and
check-out, room upgrades, direct
bookings, special offers and more.
– Mobile keys are highly secure,
since a guest's Smartphone is less
likely to be misplaced than a
plastic keycard.
• RECLUDO introduces time-
controlled biometric access
system:
- Lets the guest to unlock their
door with the tip of their finger.
- No need for apps, mobile device
or key cards.
- Time controlled finger-print
access system.
- Easy for express check ins.
Upgradation in Technology
• Upgraded Fire Alarm system:
– Multi-criteria detectors can be set to varying degrees of sensitivity.
– Lets management or security check the area before sounding a general
evacuation alarm throughout the property.
– When several detectors within an area are triggered, the fire alarm system
can be programmed to initiate a full evacuation.
– Same device that monitors both: Smoke and Fire.
– The dual fire and CO detectors reduce overall installation time and
material costs.
Upgradation in Safety Measures
• Lift usage:
– People entering the lobby and taking the lift to any floor must be stopped.
– Lifts should be programmed.
– Swiping room card in the lift and then lift will automatically take them to
particular floor.
• Managers providing a sense of ownership to employees:
– Security will be much tighter.
– Giving them more responsibility.
– Creating a sense of ownership by profit sharing.
• More aware staff is the need of the hour:
– Staff is more interactive with guests.
– Staff monitoring the body language of the guests with unusual behavior.
– Trainings of safety and security measures more frequently.
– Staff regularly updated with the evacuation plans.
– More attentive security guards.
Suggestions
• Investment in safety is not a waste as it will also help in retention of
employees.
• Meet and Greet: Staff should be interactive with guests, as
interaction helps in getting the hint of any suspected
thoughts in his/her mind.
• Hotels should go for the tracking system for key cards, so that it could
be tracked i.e. whether guest entered or staff entered the room.
• Instead of monitoring each CCTV cameras, there should be activity
recognition feature so as there is any activity in the area, it just pops
out and alert the guards.
• CCTV cameras with tag and track system are more effective.
Conclusion
• Guest should feel like home in the hotel:
– As hotel is termed as “Home away from Home”. Because the guest is in the
hotel for luxury, meeting purpose or it could be anything, so the hotel
should provide them with the best and most comfortable environment in
terms of safety & security. Hotel might not want any guest to worry about
the these things.
• Security of guest & his property is of great concern for the hotel:
– When guest is coming to the hotel for staying a day or two in it, so it
should be their best and safest stay. Not only the guest is of concern but its
property and belongings also matter to hotel.
• Not only guest but employees also need a safer hotel to work in:
– So, it’s not just the guest who need a safer place to live in but employees
also belong to the hotel and they also require their workplace to be safe
and secure.
Conclusion
• Threats could be in hotel like: Fire, Robbery, Terrorism…etc
– Threats will not warn us before occurring. They could be instant and at any
point of time. Hotel staff should be ready with appropriate safety measures,
plans and equipments.
• Technology is opening new doors to hotel safety:
– As the technology is advancing everyday with pace, one also needs to keep
himself updated. In the last decade, several advancements have been done in
the safety and security department. The equipments being used are: Metal
Detectors, Baggage scanner, Smoke Detectors, Fire alarms…etc.
– But now with technology most of the equipments have upgraded. Like Hotel
room’s Metallic key to Card key and now Mobile keys.
– Smoke detectors and fire alarms combining together as one gadget.
– CCTV cameras with more reliable features.
– Time based biometric lock systems.
