What is the meaning of a Questionnaire?
A Questionnaire is a list of questions to a
number of persons for them to answer-
Bogardus.
A systematic compilation of questions that are
submitted to a sampling of population from
which information is desired.
A list of questions that are answered by many
people. A questionnaire is used to collect
information about a particular subject.
What is the meaning of a Questionnaire?
A questionnaire is a research instrument that
consists of a set of questions or other types of
prompts that aims to collect information from a
respondent. A research questionnaire is typically a
mix of close-ended questions and open-ended
questions. Open-ended, long-form questions offer
the respondent the ability to elaborate on their
thoughts
The data collected from a data collection
questionnaire can be both qualitative as well
as quantitative in nature.
How to prepare a questionnaire?
Know the objective.
Analyze the content critically.
Prepare maximum number of questions for
the different aspects of the objective.
Edit them –select the proper one.
How to prepare a questionnaire?
Make a proper sequence of the questions.
Give clear instructions.
Validate it.
Language of the questions should be easy.
Avoid double negation
How to prepare a questionnaire?
Questions should be precise.
Length of the questionnaire should be
limited. Don’t make it too lengthy.
Conduct pilot study.
Prepare covering letter.
What are the Criteria of a good questionnaire?
 Length should be proper.
 Questions should follow all the criteria of
a good question.
 Language should be easy as per the level
of the respondents.
 Instructions should be clear.

 Questions should be precise, clear,
correct, objective.
 Sequence should be from easy to difficult.
 Include both the types of questions open
& close.
 Use simple form .avoid complex or mixed
questions.
 The questionnaire should be technically
sound. Typing mistakes & grammatical
mistakes should be avoided.
 Typing should be attractive.
 Avoid personal & annoying questions.
 The covering letter should be written
properly. Convince respondents that their
information is valuable.
What are the Criteria of a good questionnaire?
 A questionnaire can be prepared easily.
 A large data can be obtained in a short
time.
 It can be made valid & reliable.
 It is very useful for surveys.
What are the Advantages of a questionnaire?
 Respondents’ queries cannot be solved.
 Socially accepted answers are given.
 The extent of getting filled questionnaires
back is always less.
 Not useful for small children & illiterate
people.
 Different questionnaires for respondents of
different levels cannot be prepared.
What are the Limitations of a questionnaire?
How to check validity of a questionnaire?
Whether the questionnaire is
 Relevant to the objective.
 Unambiguous & clear.
 Capable of getting stable, deep, well thought
information.

 Respondents’ queries cannot be solved.
 Socially accepted answers are given.

always less.

 Answers are varied.

Questionnaire as a tool for data collection

What is the meaning of a Questionnaire? A Questionnaire is a list of questions to a number of persons for them to answer- Bogardus. A systematic compilation of questions that are submitted to a sampling of population from which information is desired. A list of questions that are answered by many people. A questionnaire is used to collect information about a particular subject.
  • 3. What is the meaning of a Questionnaire? A questionnaire is a research instrument that consists of a set of questions or other types of prompts that aims to collect information from a respondent. A research questionnaire is typically a mix of close-ended questions and open-ended questions. Open-ended, long-form questions offer the respondent the ability to elaborate on their thoughts The data collected from a data collection questionnaire can be both qualitative as well as quantitative in nature.
  • 4. How to prepare a questionnaire? Know the objective. Analyze the content critically. Prepare maximum number of questions for the different aspects of the objective. Edit them –select the proper one.
  • 5. How to prepare a questionnaire? Make a proper sequence of the questions. Give clear instructions. Validate it. Language of the questions should be easy. Avoid double negation
