1. CAREER SUMMARY AND WORK EXPERIENCE
There are moments in life where we make important decisions, which consequently will
be reflected in the rest of our lives. For this reason, as a fourth year graduation candidate, I
decided to research Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting (the profession
that I would like to study in college).
What is Accounting? Accounting is a powerful tool that guarantees a huge future in the
world, not just within finance, but as an application in all areas of life (cursoscontabilidad.es,
2010). According to Villasmil (2010), Accounting is responsible for: analyzing and evaluating
economic performance, grouping and comparing results, as well as planning and synthesizing
procedures and monitoring compliance schedules. Some of the procedures to follow in
accounting are: setting up accounts (asset, liabilities, capital accounts, accounts receivable,
payable, among others), accounting through debits and credits, applying charges and credits to
the accounts, among others. Accounting is considered the creator of the Franciscan friar Luca
Pacioli, in his work entitled "Summa de Arithmetica, 1494.
An accountant works with everything relating to the management and business
administration, and analyzes or interprets financial reports own business. Accounting challenges
to maintain a positive attitude that helps decision-making, working under pressure, being
proactive, among other things. Over time, technology has evolved and has enabled us to perform
the accounting work in the computer, which enables the counter work.
Among the job opportunities that have accounting include: certified public accountant,
controller, bank officer, cost accounting manager, tax specialist, budget manager, financial

2. analyst, and government accountants. There are several universities that offer Accounting:
University of Puerto Rico, Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, Catholic University,
American University, University of the East, among others. According to the review carried out
on the web sites of these universities, they offer different specialties: management, finance and
marketing in which you can get a degree of Bachelor, Master or PhD.
Work Experience
My work experience through the Occupational Internship in Manatee County Offices in
the accounting area was excellent. In this first work experience occupational able to improve my
skills which I will be very useful in my professional life. This confirmed to me my knowledge of
the accounting career.
Another experience that helped me decide to choose this career is being the Regional
Treasurer of Future Business Leaders of America. In this post I was able to create business
documents, make business decisions, share knowledge with member organizations/affiliations,
make payments of accounts such as the March of Dimes, among others.
Following this research, I confirm that the accounting career is one that fills my
expectations, I have been admitted to the Faculty of Business Administration in Accounting area
of the UPR Arecibo Campus, where I can begin to develop skills and knowledge necessary for
that profession with integrity and professionalism.
