Maria Catalán was born in Castellón, Spain in 1961 and lived in Alcoy and Elche during her childhood. She loved drawing and painting from a young age. In 1981, she moved to Ibiza with her husband and baby, where she later divorced and had to work various jobs while studying art. In the 1980s, the famous artist Eduard Micus recognized Maria's talent and invited her to work with him, which had a big influence on her career. Maria experimented with different materials and techniques in her artwork.

only son called David.

Ibiza. Her exhusband left
the island then she was
alone.

Arts.

Maria because she had to
work in different places
during the mornings such
as: delivering flyers,
waitress, at the beach ...
In the afternoons she
studied at the school of
Arts and she looked after
her four years old son.

art gallery woke up her
interests, for the art works,
of the artists displayed in the

• In the Art gallery where
Maria was working a famous
artist called “Eduard Micus”
paid attention to Maria’s
paintings.
• That was a very important
moment in Maria’s life when
she met Eduard Micus.
8. Eduard Micus
• He was born in Hoxter
Germany (1925-2000).
• He lived in Ibiza since 1972.
• He liked experimenting with
different Art techniques:
carving, canvas, painting
and also he used different
materials.
10. From 1988-2000
• In 1988 Eduard Micus saw
some of Maria’s art works
in the Art gallery. He liked
her paintings.
• Eduard asked to Maria that
worked for him in his art
workshop called Can Portes
in Jesus (Ibiza).
• Maria left the school of Arts
just one year before her
graduation, for learning and
sharing artistic experiences,
working with the master.
• It was an unique and
fantastic opportunity for
Maria.
11. The influence of Eduard
Micus
• Eduard Micus enriched to
Maria as an artist but as the
same way , Eduard
recognized that Maria was a
big support of fresh ideas
for himself. Maria was 27
years old . Her youth was
crucial.
12. Her career
• In 1990 Maria began a
career of individual an
collaborative exhibitions of
art specially in Germany.
• In 1992 Maria was selected
for representing her first
Art installation with other
artists such as Micus,
Fabrizio Plessi..
• In 2000 Eduard Micus died .
Maria will miss him; but again
she shows her courage and
continue working with the
same strenght .
