Cardiff School of Education / Ysgol Addysg Caerdydd
Cardiff Metropolitan University School of Education and People & Work are collaborating to
provide a short, non- accredited, introductory course in Participatory Action Research.
The main aim of this short course is to:
1. To draw upon personal fieldwork and project experience of the course participants
in order to compare fieldwork and project experience in with contemporary academic
approaches to action research thinking.
2. To establish a broad overview of the theory and development of action research
(or participatory action research) as a method of community development.
The indicative content will focus upon issues of practice and practical
experience in relation to concepts that include;
1. Gender and participation in action research and community change.
2. Ethnicity and participation in action research and community change
3. Power and hegemony and participation in action research and community
change.
4. Resources and participation in action research and community change.
Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this short course, employees as students will be able to:
1. Understand and apply Participatory Action Research as a method of
identifying and engaging with community development opportunities.
2. Evaluate and apply a range of Participatory Action Research strategies and
resources in community settings.
3. To work and communicate effectively with others in community settings in
order to facilitate positive change within a community setting.
Dates and Times
The course will run on the first four Wednesdays in November, 1pm. - 4.30 p.m. at
the Cyncoed Campus of Cardiff Metropolitan University.
The course will require a minimum of twelve participants to run and will cost £175.00
per student.

Participatory Action Research course - Cardiff Met

Cardiff School of Education / Ysgol Addysg Caerdydd Cardiff Metropolitan University School of Education and People & Work are collaborating to provide a short, non- accredited, introductory course in Participatory Action Research. The main aim of this short course is to: 1. To draw upon personal fieldwork and project experience of the course participants in order to compare fieldwork and project experience in with contemporary academic approaches to action research thinking. 2. To establish a broad overview of the theory and development of action research (or participatory action research) as a method of community development. The indicative content will focus upon issues of practice and practical experience in relation to concepts that include; 1. Gender and participation in action research and community change. 2. Ethnicity and participation in action research and community change 3. Power and hegemony and participation in action research and community change. 4. Resources and participation in action research and community change. Intended Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this short course, employees as students will be able to: 1. Understand and apply Participatory Action Research as a method of identifying and engaging with community development opportunities. 2. Evaluate and apply a range of Participatory Action Research strategies and resources in community settings. 3. To work and communicate effectively with others in community settings in order to facilitate positive change within a community setting. Dates and Times The course will run on the first four Wednesdays in November, 1pm. - 4.30 p.m. at the Cyncoed Campus of Cardiff Metropolitan University.
