- 1. The POWER of Seven: Seven Strategies for Great Leadership By: Renée Cormier President POWERHOUSE CONFERENCES Copyright© 2008 by POWERHOUSE CONFERENCES . All rights reserved.
- 2. 1. Avoid Ego dominated behaviours. Treat others the way you would want to be treated. Great Leaders give their people respect, dignity, flexibility, trust and empowerment. Copyright© 2008 by POWERHOUSE CONFERENCES . All rights reserved.
- 3. 2. Give credit where credit is due. Always acknowledge and praise the contributions of your team. You could never be successful without them! Copyright© 2008 by POWERHOUSE CONFERENCES . All rights reserved.
- 4. 3. Provide support for your people. Your team will thrive if you allow them to set their own goals. You must also give them training and continuous encouragement to stretch their capabilities. Be sure to have effective tools and systems in place to allow them to do their jobs well. Copyright© 2008 by POWERHOUSE CONFERENCES . All rights reserved.
- 5. 4. Capitalize on the strengths of your people. Give your employees the opportunity to do what they do best. Forcing people to perform tasks that are not aligned with their talents will have a disastrous effect on your plans. Know your team and what each member brings to the table. Assign work accordingly. - 6. 5. Hire for diversity. A team with members who vary in skill set, culture, gender, personality and age will accomplish a lot more than a team of like individuals. Since no one can be good at everything, it is imperative that your employees possess skills that you do not. Hiring your mirror image is an ego dominated behaviour. - 7. 6. Elicit input from your people and act on suggestions. Your people may well have suggestions for process improvement that are ingenious. Encourage open communication and adopt a “get it done” attitude when a great idea comes up. Action will move your team forward. Being dismissive or setting up roadblocks will stifle creativity and progress. Copyright© 2008 by POWERHOUSE CONFERENCES . All rights reserved.
- 8. 7. Pursue continuous growth and encourage growth in others. You will never know it all or remember it all. Take every opportunity to be the best you can be and encourage your employees to do the same. Participate in professional training and coaching sessions, start a book club with other leaders in your organization, and read voraciously on your own. The more you put into professional development, the more you will get out. Make continuous learning a part of your employees’ annual objectives and provide ample opportunity for them to participate in training sessions. Copyright© 2008 by POWERHOUSE CONFERENCES .
