• Roughly gesture the
overall form

• Observing carefully the
shape of the space
between them, draw and
check the relative size
and placement of the
fingers and thumb.
• Mark the joints &
angles.
4. • Refine the Drawing
• Indicate the main
visible creases,
especially where the
thumb folds into the
hand. Refine contour
lines defining the palm
and thumb.
•Check angles and
compare to your drawing
5. Extra Tips
• Don’t forget to close one eye when looking at angles
and measuring.
• Don’t forget to fully extend your other elbow when
measuring (switch from the stick to the pencil if you are
uncomfortable.)
• Become familiar with the underlying anatomy.
• Keep your hand drawing in a similar “style” of drawing
as the rest of your composition.
• Never start your drawing with small details!
