process of decision making. We can help them to
work on the process. We can make them alert
about the essential characteristics and ways of
decision making. Ultimately an individual has to
make decision while considering, time, situation,
problems, facts, other related circumstances and
consequence; moreover educator empowers
individual to make an independent decision

 SEVEN-STEP PROBLEM-SOLVING, DECISION-
MAKING PROCESS (Discuss with students)
 Identify (recognize/define) the problem. 2.
Gather information (facts/assumptions). 3.
Develop courses of action (solutions). 4.
Analyze and compare courses of action
(alternatives/solutions). 5. Make a decision;
select the best course of action (solution). 6.

Educator should encourage students to
frame the rules of school i.e. how to
maintain discipline in the classroom/ in the
school playground/during cultural
activities in school. Framing rules are very
easy task; however, educator should ask
students to work on “how” they will execute
those rules properly for developing a
culture in the school.

Educator should encourage students to start
making decisions in small things i.e. if s/he
decides to go to sleep at 10 pm at night then
go to sleep on time. Beginning of a habit to
take a decision and stick on it leads a
person to take rational decision in life. One
of my friend says, “Read one hour but read
one hour daily! Play one hour but play one
hour daily!!

between India and China, where third
country (Bhutan) was also involved?

related to ‘data interpretation’ for
developing decision making skill because
data interpretation requires in depth
analysis. Educator encourages students to
identify correct data pattern/process for
analyzing them and finding out solution etc.

 Mr. Shubham belongs to low income family
background. He is very good at history. He
wants to do further study in the field of
history; since there is no direct income after
completing the prescribed course, therefore
his father is insisting him to pursue a web
designing course. Mr. Shubham is facing a
complex situation before making a decision.
Help him to make a final decision.

 Situation 4
 Government has taken several initiatives to
improve state's quality of education; however
government failed to do so. You have been
appointed as Human Resource Minister of
state in newly constituted cabinet. What first
5 decisions would you like to take to handle
this critical issue? You will have to consider
also state’s socio-economic conditions while
making decisions.

 Situation 5
 Educator helps student to learn decision making skill with
recent incident, accident and illustration from real life
situations i.e. Ms. Anjali graduated from one of the famous
college Delhi School of Economics and completed
management course from Indian Institute of Management,
Ahmedabad. She got a big offer from a reputed business
firm; however she decided to do agricultural activities i.e.
farming, animals’ husbandry, and dairy farm etc.
 Why she has chosen this profession?
 Is it a wrong decision?
 Why did she leave elegant/affluent life?

 Educator can organize a face to face interactive
session with people from different fields (Gram
Pradhan, SHO, Inspector, Doctor, Nurse, DM/DC,
BDO, Person from Revenue Department, Manager of
a company) to know the essence of decision making
skill i.e.
 How do they take decision in a normal situation?
 How do they take decision in crucial/complex
situation?
 What things involve in decision making?
 How do they indentify right people and right choice?

Students learn the tricks and techniques of
decision making from these experienced
people. It gives a sense of satisfaction for
students and enriches their decision
making skill. Indeed practical experience of
skilled/knowledgeable/veteran/expert
person can change students’ perception of
decision making.

Educator can develop decision making skill of
students by relating famous illustration of
different Epics .i.e the Kuran, the Mahabharta, the
Bible. Karan was one the best warriors in the
Mahabharta. He told lies to his Guru (educator)
Parsuram about his own identity due to condition
of Parsuram to become a Guru of someone. Karan
received high education but the day Parsuram
came to know the real truth, he cursed Karan for
telling lie….What would you like to do, if you were
Karan---------------------------------------

Nobody is inferior and nobody is superior, one is
just oneself. Educator indentifies inherent
capacity of students. He nurtures the inherent
talent to become more efficient and more skilled;
to do something more innovative, more
expressive, and more novel for the welfare of the
self, society, nation and the universe.

Real Story: 2
Mr. Bhola Singh was an astute farmer. He used to ask his
son if he had to help other needy farmer in terms of
sending his own tractor to plough the field. Mr. Nilabh
recalled his childhood memories. He flashed back and
shared, “I did not feel the importance of the particular
questions, asked by my father. I did not remember now,
“what was my father’s decision in such situation, but he
used to ask me and I used to give answer at that time”.
Now, I felt that my father used to make me a sensible
person, indeed a decision maker.

Parent plays central role in developing
decision making skill among students. S/he
can assign simple task to make them
sensible to take a wise decision according to
need. Usually, student initiates to complete
these type tasks interestingly as well as
enthusiastically.

Sample Task: 1
Ranjay’s father announced that his son will do
purchasing for kitchen. Ranjay will buy kitchen
items from Hypermart. His father has given only
Rs. 1000. Ranjay will check kitchen items and
make a list of necessary items for purchasing. He
will identify essential and luxury kitchen items. He
has to decide and buy kitchen items so that his
mother would be able to cook today’s dinner
uninterruptedly.

Sample Task: 2
Tappu is younger son of Mr. Gopal. Usually Tappu does not
eat green vegetable on regular basis and always complains
his mother for other alternative vegetables for lunch or
dinner time (which his mother could not cook at particular
day). Mr. Gopal found out a solution. He has given Tappu
Rs. 100 for buying green vegetables for the family. He
encouraged Tappu to visit nearby ‘Vegetable Market’ for
shopping. He will purchase green vegetables of his own
choice which other family members will eat in dinner.

tries to include something more to enhance
the learning aptitude, attitude and decision
making skills of the students. Since decision
making is a dynamic process. Educator
helps students to learn the essence of
decision making; its’ nature of interrelation
and interdependence. A wise educator
