5. Much has been written about the existence of a primitive temple, when Friar Bernardino de Minaya spent some time in the Mixteca between 1529 and 1530. Yanhuitlan was abandoned by the priests in 1520, but returned in 1535. 30. General graveyard The pantheon was founded in 1829. It functioned, provisionally, until 1839 when the Oaxaca City Hall decided to build a formal cemetery. The General Cemetery was officially inaugurated on July 18, 1901. Its design has a marked neo-classic influence, respecting the tendencies of the times of Porfirio Diaz. The entire construction is built of quarry stone, a characteristic material used in Oaxacan architecture. The architecture is based on a central patio with 100 rounded arches.
