3. Reading in school
• Guided reading sessions take place daily for half
an hour.
• Children will read once a week with the class
teacher and on the other days will complete
activities linked to the text they have been
reading.
• Some children will also complete RWI with a
teaching assistant during this time to develop
their reading fluency and comprehension.
• Children will be grouped according to ability
within the class to ensure texts are accessible.
• Where possible, texts will link with English topic
4. Reading at home
• Please spend 10 minutes each day reading with
your
child.
• Please record all reading completed in the
reading section of your child’s planner.
• Please ask your child to bring their reading book
and planner to school everyday.
• Reading books are changed once a week and
children are encouraged to read texts of their
choice once they have completed their reading
book.
5. Maths

• Daily lessons
• Develop an understanding of number,
calculation, shape, space, measure, data

• Monday’s lesson will focus on spelling rules and
patterns. Handwriting practise also takes place
on a Monday.
• Throughout all of our work in English lessons,
we focus on developing the children’s basic
skills at word, sentence and text level. In
particular, we are focusing on the writing of high
quality and interesting sentences including the
use of interesting vocabulary, a range of
effective conjunctions, a variety of sentence
openers and consistent use of correct
punctuation.
