 4G is not one defined technology or standard,
but rather a collection of technologies at creating
fully packet-switched networks optimized for
data.
 4G Networks are projected to provide speed of
100Mbps while moving and 1Gbps while
stationary.

4G LTE
 An acronym for Long Term Evolution, LTE is a 4G
wireless communications standard developed by the 3rd
Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
 designed to provide up to 10x the speeds of 3G
networks for mobile devices such as
smartphones, tablets, netbooks, notebooks & wireless
hotspots.
 4G LTE is one of several competing 4G standards along
with Ultra Mobile Broadband (UMB) & WiMax (IEEE
802.16).
4G LTE Advance
 LTE Advanced is a
mobile communication standard and a major
enhancement of the Long Term Evolution (LTE)
standard. It was formally submitted as a
candidate 4G system toITU-T in late 2009 as
meeting the requirements of the IMT-Advanced
standard, and was standardized by the
3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) in
March 2011 as 3GPP Release 10

 The LTE format was first proposed by NTT DoCoMo
of Japan and has been adopted as the international
standard.
 The first commercial services were launched
in Sweden and Norway in December 2009 followed by
the United States and Japan in 2010.
 The work by 3GPP to define a 4G candidate radio
interface technology started in Release 9 with the study
phase for LTE-Advanced. Being described as
a 3.9G (beyond 3G but pre-4G).

  • 3. 4G Definition  4G is not one defined technology or standard, but rather a collection of technologies at creating fully packet-switched networks optimized for data.  4G Networks are projected to provide speed of 100Mbps while moving and 1Gbps while stationary.
  • 4. What is 4G?  Fourth Generation Technology  Faster and more reliable  100 Mb/s  Lower cost than previous generations  Multi-standard wireless system  Bluetooth, Wired, Wireless  Ad Hoc Networking  IPv6 Core  OFDM used instead of CDMA  Potentially IEEE standard 802.11n  Most information is proprietary
  • 5. Communication Architecture  Personal Layer Gateway:  devices that connect to upper layers; cell phone, fax, voice, data modem, MP3 players, PDAs  Info-Sensor layer:  environmental sensors  Fiber-optic wire layer:  high speed subterranean labyrinth of fiber optic cables and repeaters

  • 10. 4G LTE  An acronym for Long Term Evolution, LTE is a 4G wireless communications standard developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).  designed to provide up to 10x the speeds of 3G networks for mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, netbooks, notebooks & wireless hotspots.  4G LTE is one of several competing 4G standards along with Ultra Mobile Broadband (UMB) & WiMax (IEEE 802.16).
  • 11. 4G LTE Advance  LTE Advanced is a mobile communication standard and a major enhancement of the Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard. It was formally submitted as a candidate 4G system toITU-T in late 2009 as meeting the requirements of the IMT-Advanced standard, and was standardized by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) in March 2011 as 3GPP Release 10

Continued…  The LTE format was first proposed by NTT DoCoMo of Japan and has been adopted as the international standard.  The first commercial services were launched in Sweden and Norway in December 2009 followed by the United States and Japan in 2010.  The work by 3GPP to define a 4G candidate radio interface technology started in Release 9 with the study phase for LTE-Advanced. Being described as a 3.9G (beyond 3G but pre-4G).
