- Good morning everyone, again my name is Bryan Coble and I serve on a specialized team here at SchoolDude that focuses on helping our school and university clients achieve savings in energy management. Today we’ll be focusing on ways to improve your schools energy conservation efforts which will ultimately help your organizations achieve cost savings by leveraging the power of SchoolDude in conjunction with the EPA’s Energy Star program.1st I I’d like to start by laying some groundwork around managing conservation and energy in the world of educationNextwe will talk in more depth about what Energy star is and why it is important to your conservation efforts Most importantly we will hear from Lisa Randall from Santa Fe Public Schools in New Mexico – Lisa will share her district’s best practices around managing energy conservation and how they are generating and utilizing ENERGY STAR ratings to measure the effectiveness of energy conservation programs and how they’ve reduced their utility use and carbon footprint by leveraging UtilityDirect and ConserveDirect. Lastly Justin will take us on a high level tour of the ConserveDirect solution
- Let’s go back to the basics of why most of you on the line today started with UtilityDirect. Some of you are using UtilityDirect to just track your utility bills and while that is a good thing to do, the real value of UtilityDirect is using that data and what it tells you to manage your utility usage. The experts such as the US DOE tell us that Schools that are not actively tracking and managing their utility usage use three times more energy than the best performers and spend $60-$100 more per student annually than schools with utility management programs in place. This results in districts having less money which leads to a host of problems including less money to allocate back to the classroom.However, schools that are focused on improving efficiency and increasing awareness can experience savings of 5 to 20-percent, this is according to the US Department of Energy – and these are savings that can be used to fund facility improvements, academic programs, classroom and staffing needs. To give you an estimate of these savings, let’s take the national average of $295 per student energy cost from AS&U’s research. For a 4,000 student district their annual utility budget is right around. $1.1 million dollars. 10% savings of $1.1 million would be $118,000 annually. I’m sure we could all use $118,000 dollars back in our budgets? ** Today we want to focus our attention on changing behavior and increasing awareness to increase your savings.
- So today we’ll explore how SchoolDude UtilityDirect clients can take the next steps in Energy Conservation. SchoolDude has partnered with Energy Star and is one of the top performing partners by helping our clients with Energy Star certification. We’ve done this through the release of ConserveDirect which has a direct integration with Energy Star’s Portfolio manager. ConserveDirect takes your utility bill data from UtilityDirect and eliminates double data entry into Portfolio Manger so you can easily get your Energy Star ratings and track your carbon footprint through Green House Gas emissions. As an Energy Star partner, SchoolDude is ranked 15th out of 333 after just one year of having our clients leverage ConserveDirect with UtilityDirect. And, while the Energy Star website shows us having 540 benchmarked buildings – that is as of June 30, 2012, we are now up to over 950 which should propel us further up the rankings.

- The keys to any successful energy program is made up of 3 components, Validation, Evaluation and MotivationStep 1 is Validation, how do you do that? You are already doing that through the Validation of your utility bill data in UtilityDirect The next step is through the evaluation of those bills. You can also use UtilityDirect to help aid you in the Evaluation of your bills data by using the analysis and reporting capabilities. And now you can use ConserveDirect to help you manage your motivation factors .
