The 2014 Ed Gala in Support of the Denver Scholarship Foundation

  1. 1. The 2014 Ed Gala to benefit the Denver Scholarship Foundation will take place on October 21 at Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum. Presented by Mike and Patty Starzer, the event will feature former Secretary of State General Colin Powell, USA (Ret.), as the keynote speaker. All proceeds from the event will support the mission of the Denver Scholarship Foundation to provide resources to Denver Public Schools students as they prepare for college and begin their undergraduate careers.
  2. 2. General Powell will certainly offer a unique perspective on the challenges facing education in the United States and how we can work to overcome them and expand opportunities to more children than ever. The son of Jamaican immigrants, General Powell participated in the Army’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program and quickly proved himself an adept military leader.
  3. 3. Throughout his career, General Powell held diplomatic positions under four presidents. His posts include security advisor to President Ronal Reagan and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for Presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush. He was the first African American to hold the latter position.
