Can someone explain why when using the book value formula people do cost * (1 - depr rate - depr rate) Instead of doing cost - (accumulated depreciation) - especially since this is the formula I'm really confused why the multiplication is being used when the formula calls for subtraction. Hope that makes sense, Thank you in advance!.

Can someone explain why when using the book value formula people do cost * (1 - depr rate - depr rate) Instead of doing cost - (accumulated depreciation) - especially since this is the formula I'm really confused why the multiplication is being used when the formula calls for subtraction.
