T
he latest W&H Implantmed surgical
unit with its advanced features and
powerful, quiet motor, has found a
solid following among top dental special-
ists and oral surgeons. The Implantmed
is a portable surgical motor, which is
both quiet and powerful, helping get the
job done more swiftly and consequently
making surgical procedures less fatiguing
for the operator and easier to endure for
the patient.
One of those relying on the Implantmed
to perform a range of medical and dental
procedures is well known Sydney oral and
maxillofacial surgeon, Dr Khaled Zoud.
Dr Zoud said as a surgeon, he would not
compromise on the quality of his instru-
ments and was one of the first surgeons in
Sydney to purchase the newest model of
the W&H Implantmed.
The portability of the unit is an important
factor as Dr Khaled Zoud is a visiting spe-
cialist to three Sydney Hospitals and has to
take his equipment with him when working
in operating theatres (Dr Zoud has separate
Implantmed motors and W&H surgical
instruments in each of his two Sydney spe-
cialist practices at Parramatta and Burwood
in Sydney’s western suburbs).
The W&H Implantmed surgical motor,
complete with saline solution and special-
ised W&H surgical handpieces are easily
moved around on a small trolley. This ena-
bles Dr Zoud to have a ‘bare’ A-dec 300
patient chair (without delivery system) in
his new Burwood surgery, which is a less
intimidating environment for the patient
and provides superior patient access
during procedures.
“I operate on whatever side of the
patient that the tooth is located, so I can
swivel the assistants instrumentation out
of the way for better access. I can perform
the local anesthetic and then the assistant
wheels in a trolley behind the chair and
the patient. In this way, the patient doesn’t
see the instruments or any blood during
the operation,” Dr Zoud said.
According to Andrew Holmes from
leading implant manufacturer BioHori-
zons, the Implantmed’s automatic thread
cutter function is a major factor for
successful implants.
“Cutting or tapping a thread into dense
bone before placing the implant prevents
excessive compression and potentially
inhibits the likelihood of pressure necrosis
during the important healing phase,” Mr
Holmes said.
Combined with a surgical straight and
contra-angle handpieces from W&H, the
Implantmed provides perfect balance of
the handpiece without unnecessary weight
or bulk. This enables surgeons to carry
out long procedures without their hands
feeling fatigued.
The doctor is then free to concentrate
fully on the patient and the procedure
by using the easy-to-operate foot con-
trol. This offers optimum freedom of
movement for both hands.
The latest range of W&H surgical
handpieces designed for use with the
Implantmed include class-leading
W&H LED+ technology for superior
illumination of the treatment area and
provide extremely accurate colour ren-
dering, especially of red shades in the
oral cavity.
