The Culture Of American Culture
American culture is portrayed as that of every other countries traditions, rituals, and cultures. As
Americans, do we know our culture to be as anything other than that of a melting pot? That
being said, is it ok to say for us to say, I can take your culture because it s meant to be shared
anyway. Most of us have lived here our entire lives and it s what we have grown accustomed to.
Can we speak on anyone else s behalf? I can. Even though I am American by birth, my blood is
Mexican. I may not face the same hardships in this country to the extent of that of someone who
is of Middle Eastern decent such as my land and oil being drained, or my people being racially
abused and frowned upon so negatively, especially in air ports. I hate Cinco de mayo, and
unfortunately for minorities, culture and everything else in the U.S. is controlled and ruled by a
system that caters only to the white.
A culture inherited by the any nation must meet the actual needs of [its] communities.
Communities must also respect the expectations and aspirations set directly by indigenous people
in order to prevent the misappropriation and misuse of traditional and cultural expressions.
(T.P.T.C.E) The same way I cite and give credit to my sources on the essay I am writing, should be
applied directly and effectively the same way to other peoples traditions that fit accordingly. White
people must also acknowledge the fact that there is an ever present, rite of passage, for them, in

Evils of Money and Industrialization in the Film, The Wages of Fear The messages or themes of
The Wages of Fear are fairly easy to understand. Among them all, the strongest of these messages
is that, simply, money and greed can corrupt and even kill. This message is clear in several
aspects of the film. For example, the plot of the story is that several men take on an incredibly
dangerous task, knowing they could die, because the completion of the task could bring them a
large sum of money. Of course, the incentivebehind their choice can be attributed to the local
American oil company that is offering the money, which controls the local economy in the first
place (the implication is that these men would not have to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One could argue that the characters own lust for money and material objects caused them to take
the job transporting the nitroglycerine, and it is their own fault for what happened. After all,
when the American oil company went in search of people to hire for the task, they made it very
clear what the dangers were, and were entirely honest with the drivers about the possible
consequences that they could face. If this argument is to hold fast then, the reasons that the four
men, Mario, Bimba, Luigi, and Jo, accepted the job must be explored more closely. Was it only
the lust for money that caused them to put themselves in danger, or did they have other motives?
To answer this question, the first two characters that should be looked at are Jo and Mario. These
are the two characters who undergo the largest character development throughout the film, and
who have the most in depth reasons for putting themselves in danger. First, there is Jo. He is the
older career criminal/gangster/ tough guy. His life revolves around portraying an image of being
couth, and projecting his superior ego on other people. Mario is the younger tough guy, still trying
to make a reputation for himself, who believes that by hooking up with Jo he can gain some
respect from the other people around him. For

Persuasive Essay On Becoming A Dentist
Someone coming at you, with white latex gloves on, the tool with a hook that twinkles with
deceit in hand, and as you re dazed from the anesthetics they gave you, they ask you to smile and
then ask you to open wide to claw at your teeth and gums. That is what I want to be doing as my
job for the rest of my life, scaring kids as a dentist. That s what people see them for, but what
really makes a dentist? Lots of schooling, is one for sure, but you also must have simple skills
that some may be born with or others have to learn. Explaining these things and learning about
these things are crucial to my education to becoming a dentist. As a dentist, you can obtain an
office full of terrified kids and adults who have the privilege to see me! It s actually them being
scared of the tools that I have that goes in their mouths, but same thing right? In addition to having
kids being terrified of you and your tools, there are its perks. One of the perks for a dentist is that
they are one of the highest paying in the healthcare department, more than a registered nurse and
medical assistant combined, raking in an average of $172,350 each year, making $14,362.50 a
month. Moreover, dentistswill have a growth of 18% from 2014 2024, faster than the average for
all occupations. ( Summary. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 17
Dec. 2015, www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/dentists.htm#tab 4.) It may not seem like it, but dentists
have a great deal of responsibilities when it comes to taking care of their patients. Being a
dentist, you are there to help people become more informed on how to properly take care of their
teeth and what they must do to achieve that beautiful smile! Dentists are also there to fill any
cavities you may have or extract any decay that may be upon your teeth. Those dentures that you
found beside your grandpa s sink? Dentists also make those, as well as fix and save any teeth that
may be cracked. They also remove teeth that may have rotted out.
When I first started thinking of what I wanted to become, I simply thought that I love seeing
terrified people I mean, the smiles from everyone that walks in and out of the office that I d have!
In all honesty, I picked this career

Generational Differences Essay
Generational Differences
Every generation is influenced by its period s economic, political and social events. From the
Great Depression to the civil rights and women s movements to the advent of television and
advanced computer technologies. Thus generational background/situation may also affect the way
they work. The key is to be able to effectively address and take advantage of the differences in
values and expectations of each generation in the workplace. The current work place consists of
four different generations; The Baby Boomers (1946 1964) who are slowly retiring and existing
the workforce, The Generation X (1965 1976), The Generation Y or millennia (1977 1997), and the
Generation Z who are about to or are just entering the work force. Although these different
generations tend to want similar things in a workplace their environment/background has shaped
their character, values, and expectations (Hahn 2011).
Baby Boomers perspective
According to Hahn (2011), baby boomers share the following background and characteristics:
Raised during a time of economic prosperity and optimism.
Grew up with a clear division of gender roles and low divorce rate.
Experience the Vietnam War, the Apollo 11 moon landing, and the civil right movement.
They are comfortable working in hierarchical organizations.
Demonstrate a strong sense of self, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
Expect life to revolve around work.
Prefer face to face meetings.

The Problems With Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Essay
Although most senators, representatives and school officials support common core state standards
(CCSS), they have not received or researched the history of how CCSS introduced itself.
Furthermore, they do not understand that local control is being taken away, which results in the
eventual destruction of excellent, local schools, students, and future generations. Two private trade
organizations located in Washington, D.C, wrote the CCSS at the request of Achieve, a company
created by Bill and Melinda Gates. Thus, CCSS did not arise from the state level but of an
interested organization associated with education. Most Americans do not want their local school

This amendment pushed Ohio into the wrong direction especially in regards to protecting a student
s privacy.
Although Ohio s governor, Ted Strickland, signed and agreed to adopt a set of national standards
in June 2009 to obtain 400 million dollars in Race To The Top (RTTT) money, he had not read or
reviewed these standards as the completed CCSS were not published until July 2009. The Standards
simply passed through the Ohio Congress without knowing the dangers. According to the article
Myths versus Facts written by an anti CCSS group called Truth in American Education, most states
implemented Common Core to be eligible to compete [in] the federal Race to Top Funding. At the
request of Achieve Inc., the National Governor s Association (NGA) and the Chief Counsel of State
School Officers (CCSSO) wrote national standards called CCSS. David Coleman, the new president
of the State College Boards, admits that he had to sell these national standards to the governors.
Although Coleman does not have any background in education, he received instruction to rewrite
the SAT and ACT to align these national tests to the Common Core State Standards. The question
remains as to whether CCSS began as a state led initiative or were established unconstitutionally?
Did the 200 million dollars that Ohio received upon signing and the promise of an additional 200
million dollar at the full implementation of Common Core influence the

The first step to creating an effective search strategy for this particular search strategy would be
to go over what kind of subjects we will be covering as we work to complete the search strategy

through these steps and help him to stay on track while we are completing them. As we go through
this search strategy we are going to cover formulating an effective researchquestion, virtual

have discussed our plan for completing this search strategy the next step would be to formulate

The next step would be to show the student how where they access this collection and how to
search for materials. I demonstrate how to use these collections by searching for some materials
that have organized into the grade 5 age appropriate category. Once in this category I can show
him how to search through this material in order to find items that contain information about his
chosen subject. The next research tool that will be discussed is the Google search. Since the
student is in grade 5 he probably already knows a great deal about using Google since it is a very
popular tool for people of all ages. What I will be teaching him is how to find the best results using
Google search. I will show him that refining your search using key terms can help you to find the
most useful information faster and with ease. After providing this explanation I will encourage the
student to try searching for some research materials by using the key words we came with together
in his Google search. Unfortunately though using the internet as a research tool does have its
dangers. After the student has finished his Google search using the key terms I will take some time
to talk to him about the importance of evaluation. Some websites present opinion as fact and using
this kind of information can have damaging effects on your research and your finished product.

Problem With The Problem Of Evil
The Problem with the Problem of Evil
I am arguing that the Logical Problem of Evil (LPE) is not a successful argument to reject the
existence of God. This is due to the LPE arguing with an inaccurate definition for the word good .
With the correct definition of good, I will show that an all good and all powerful God can logically
exist simultaneously with evil. A response for my objection could be the Furthermore, if we allow
the inadequate use of the word evil , the LPE still does not constitute the immediate rejection of the
existence of God due to the concept of free will. A response to this objection is that individual
humans are not free and are therefore not morally responsible for their actions. However, I will
show that this response fails to disprove the existence of God.
Logical Problem of Evil In the article Evil and Omnipotence , J. L. Mackie argues his version of the
LPE. He defines evil to be concepts that good can abolish or get rid of. For the sake of this paper I
define Mackie s concept of evil as pain and suffering. In Evil and Omnipotence Good is defined to
be the taking away of pain and suffering. This definition of good and evil allows this argument to
become valid :
1.God is all powerful and all good
2.Evil exists _
3.God Doesn t exist
The above argument is valid due to the logic that an all powerful and all good God would be able
to and should eliminate all the evil in the world. However, since pain and suffering (evil)

Essay on Evolution of the Automobile Industry and Henry Ford
Evolution of the Automobile Industry and Henry Ford
Henry Ford, the high priest of efficiency, was the tinkerer craftsman who produced one of many
horseless carriages, the automobile. Nearly three years after his only son was born in 1893,
Ford succeeded in producing his first car. After months of vigorous work and two final sleepless
nights, the Quadricycle tolled out of Ford s garage. The Quadricycle was a primitive machine,
with a tiller for a steering wheel, bicycle tires, a bicycle seat and a bicycle chain to transfer the
power of the engine to the wheels.
Engine manufacturing plants did not exist, so Ford s car was constructed entirely by hand, with
common parts recycled into new uses. A house doorbell was the horn.... Show more content on

Ford revealed many new models in the next three years following the production of Model A. In
January of 1906, his newest automobile, Model N, was produced. The car was the only 600 dollar
vehicle with a four cylinder engine. The Ford sold over 800 units in the twelve months, ending in
December of 1907. This was five times the amount of their previous annual sales. By the end of
1907, the company had made over one million in profit of sales of 4.7 million dollars. This profit
was outstanding for the company, however, the consumers wanted a lower price for the automobile.
This forced Henry Ford to promise in 1905 to build a high grade touring car and sell it at an
unheard of price, and now, just as surely as every claim made for the small car was made good, just
so surely has Ford made good this promise. The Model T was that car. The car that was promised
a four cylinder, twenty horse power touring car. The Model T was a roomy, commodious,
comfortable family car, that basically was as good as it got.
Model T, known as the simplest of all cars, is an enlarged four cylinder box car that resembles
today s go cart. The invention of this car made things much more convenient for our spread out
country; including the increased development of roadways. What used to be towns became the
cities as people started to spread away from one another. This new

Truck Drivers Research Paper
Nearly everything you see in stores and even in your home was, at some point, transported
overland by a truck. Tractor trailer rigs in particular, haul cargo over longer distances than those
covered by local delivery trucks. Because of this, they carry much heavier loads and can weigh up
to 80,000 pounds. This makes them 20 to 30 times heavier than the average car.
Truck drivers must obey the same traffic rules as other vehicles on the road and like many
motorists, their negligence can cause an accident. However, in a tractor trailer accident, the result
can be devastating to the occupants of the other vehicle. Their overwhelming size and weight can
completely demolish smaller vehicles. This is why so many federal regulations specifically ... Show

Truck drivers with multiple traffic violations and tractor trailer accidents on their driving record
are somehow able to get rehired several times. These types of drivers rarely improve their records
because of their dangerous driving habits. Habits are notoriously difficult to change.
Trucking carriers are increasingly hiring inexperienced drivers because of the current driver
shortage. Most of the experienced drivers are retiring, which means a dangerously large percentage
of truck drivers on the road today have minimal experience.
Distracted Driving
Truck drivers are distracted by many of the same things as the ordinary motorist. These include cell
phone conversations, texting, GPS programming, mobile app use, eating, daydreaming, reaching
for objects, and other distractions both inside and outside of the truck.
Fatigue
Federally mandated hours of service rules directed at ensuring that truck drivers get their rest,
such as placing maximum time limits on continuous driving, do not necessarily keep fatigued
drivers off the road. Drivers may fail to get a good night s rest or knowingly violate regulations in
order to meet their schedules. Fatigue can impair driving as severely as intoxication, and in
extreme cases, cause the driver to fall asleep at the

Frodo Baggins As A Christ-Figure
J. R. R. Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings Frodo Baggins as a Christ Figure
J. R. R. Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings has delighted readers since its publication owing to its
author s skillful development of his fantastic realm and its inhabitants adventures therein. In fact,
Tolkien is rightly regarded as the father of the modern fantasy genre, and it often seems all fantasy
imitates his work in some way. However, as readers return to the work, it often becomes apparent
that the work is more than a simple escapist journey into an imaginary world; the work represents
the finest traditions in literature and rich grounding in Tolkien s study of language and mythology.
Equally surprising, though, Tolkien himself admits that the ... Show more content on

The similarities grow overt later when turning 33, Jesus age on the Cross, Frodo sets out upon a
journey which tests the limits of his endurance and the outcome of which spells the equivalent
of saving the world. The last leg of that journey emphasizes the hardships of the protagonist and
his young servant, Sam, as they struggle with practically no provisions across a barren
wasteland carrying a small golden ring, the magical power of which bears so heavily upon
Frodo s mind as to drive him to near insanity. The last stage of their journey to Orodruin came,
and it was a torment greater than Sam had ever thought he could bear. [4] Voluntarily accepting
so great a task, certainly Frodo suffers on behalf of a people (all good peoples, in fact) with no
hope of gratitude or even of surviving the venture. In fact, as Frodo and Sam stagger to their
journey s end totally convinced that the completion of their task will signal the end of their
lives, they parallel Jesus who understood that the completion of his ministry would end on the
cross to the jeers of the very people to whom he gave everything. In acting for the corporate
good, Frodo even suffers death and new life, in symbolic terms at least. After being attacked in
the end of the second installment, Frodo is left for dead by Sam who fails to find a pulse or any
other physical signs of life. Only later does Sam learn that the illusion of death is merely a
symptom of the venomous attack of their foe.

Comparison Of Copy Shop And Uncanny Valley
The short film genre, being defined as a film that is not long enough to be a feature film and
generally less than 40 minutes long, obviously is disadvantaged in terms of time compared to a
feature film. However, this lack of time lets the director make more personal choices, allowing
them to send their message in various ways. This is elucidated in short films Copy Shop, directed
by Virgil Widrich, and Uncanny Valley, which is directed by Federico Heller. Copy shop describes
the loss of individuality and uniqueness in today s society through the use of experimentation on
unique filmtechniques while Uncanny Valley demonstrates the power of technology, especially in
games by using an emphasis on aesthetics and visual techniques. Copy shop... Show more content

The entire film is aesthetically striking, with rich colours and a detailed mise en scene. This is
especially conspicuous during the scenes of the gameplay, with an example being when the
audience is first introduced to the targets . The wide angle shot beautifully captures the
humanoid creatures and the landscape, with the 3D rendering and other special effects creating
a visually dynamic scene. The splendid visuals add allure to the game while showing the power
of technology, as it was technology that made the game so visually appealing. The accentuation
on visual techniques also creates a juxtaposition between the real world and the world of virtual
reality. The dilapidated old building with tattered walls and a dirty floor is contrasted to the
splendid landscape laden with boulders and volcanoes. This shows how the virtual reality can
become more influential than the real world, demonstrating the power of games. Heller also uses
colour to show the distinction between virtual reality and the actual world. The world of VR uses
rich high contrast colours, an example being the blue landscape with the orange skies, while the
real world is dominated by the drab browns and greys. As high contrast colours are more eye
catching, it shows how games have power over the real world. This emphasis on visual techniques

Analysis Of The Story Folie A Deux By William Trevor
The story Folie a Deux by William Trevor explores the complexities of curiosity and maturation. The
narrator, inspired by literary devices, details an important passage of the story, which portrays
lunchtime conversations between Anthony, his father, and Miss Davally, and follows with the
correspondence between Miss Davally and Wilby s mother where all involve the exchange of
information. The passage is meaningful because it demonstrates an appraisal of information, and its
impact on progress. Ultimately, the story suggests that information is arbitrarily powerful, and that
genuine maturation is only fostered through nurtured curiosity.
The portrayal of lunchtime conversations suggests information is invaluably powerful and depends
on human connections to establish a worldview. While everyone is eating, the narrator describes
that much other information (is) passed on at the lunch table , and details the questioned
functionality of aeroplanes , time , and spiders (132). The narrator s description of how information
is situated at the lunch table implicitly suggests human connections to be an important survival
need, like nourishment or lunch , and infers their interdependency. Through the phrase much other
information was passed on , the narrator conveys the abundantly distinct richness of information,
which is inferred by the connotations much and other . The description that information was passed
on at the table signifies the table to be the center of

moves troops into a disputed zone between the Rio Grande and the Nueces Riverto. Mexico still
upset about Texas, responds by sending troops out and it results in the loss of 12 U.S. soldiers.
Polk uses this and gets Congress to sign off on a war and in the course of two years proceeds to
defeat Mexico. It ends with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed February 1848, which
essentially was the submission of all land north of the Rio Grande to the U.S. The U.S. erased
Mexico s debt to them, which was about 3 million dollars and proceeded to give Mexico 15 million

apart of U.S. territory of New Mexico. Mexican President Antonio Santa Anna responded by
sending troops into the valley. U.S. President Franklin Pierce sends James Gadsden to negotiate
and resolve the issue. In need of money to fund an army to fight rebellions in Mexico, Santa
Anna agrees to 45,000 square miles for 15 million dollars. The treaty was later ratified by the U.S.

Visualize in your head a rock band, and a rapper. What kind of clothes are they wearing. What
lyric styles are they singing in? And what color are they? Ongoing stereotypes suggest that the
rock band is a group of white musicians and the rapper would be black. However, examples from
the past and present shows that these stereotypes are untrue. Music is defined as The art of
organizing tones to produce a coherent sequence of sounds to elicit an aesthetic responsein a listener
(Morris, 864). This country s youth is unlike any others, we have much control over what we do,

It gave them a feeling of freedom and joy that had been lacking from previous music styles.
Although rock became an instant hit with the youth, the music caused displeasure in the adult
world. Rock was criticized for juvenile delinquency to loosened sexual standards (R amp;RG,
27). The most notorious example of what adults didn t like in rock music can be found in Elvis
Presley. Elvis was the first white performer to expose an audience to rock music. However, the free
will style Elvis exhibited was not a real big hit with the adults, where he was condemned as a
whirling dervish of sex.
Rock music then went on a tear, evolving into many different styles and forms. As rock matured
and diversified, many new artists and distinct styles emerged. Such examples are blues, featured by
B.B. King and Ruth Brown. Harmonious styles such as The Orioles, the energetic swing sounds
of Little Richard, the role model rock star Pat Boone, and the folk rock of the Everly Brothers.
Rock usually evolved to what was happening in the world during that time period, such as war,
politics, current events, and lifestyles. Another aspect that evolved rock music was technology. As
more and more technology was developed, more integrated sounds were brought into rock,
eventually resulting into such music as pop and disco. Music was now able to have artificial beats

Connections Report 1.8 Connections
The theme of love connection between people is a very important part of life. I choose this theme
as it is a very relevant and relatable subject for many people in our society. The four texts I chose
were: the fictional novel Delirium , by Lauren Oliver, the song Blank Space by Taylor Swift, song
Same Love by Macklemore and fictional novel Girl Online , by Zoe Sugg. There was a strong
connection of love between two people in all of these texts.
The first text that I looked at that showed the connection of love was Delirium. This novel discusses
the connection of love. Love is the main theme of this novel. The main character ... Show more

This song is about the struggles society creates for people identifying as a homosexual and
discusses equality and discrimination of people that like the same sex. Macklemore was driven to
write this song because of the issue of equal marriage right and the use of gay as degrading word
in society and in the hip hop industry. He wanted to set an example for others in the music industry,
and help change the stereotypes of homosexuality. As Macklemore writes in his song a bunch of
stereotypes all in my head this shows that society riddles our brains into thinking that it isn t
alright to be gay, when really it is. These stereotypes make it hard for people to feel accepted
about their sexuality. This song discusses how gay is used in an insultive way as quoted in the
lyrics; If I was gay I would think hip hop hates me, Have you read the YouTube comments lately,
Man that s gay Gets dropped on the daily, We ve become so numb to what we re sayin These
examples show the connection of love, but in a different way to what we would usually expect.
This song has a different view on the connection of love compared to other books with the theme
of love, as it is about homosexuality rather than heterosexuality. In my opinion I think what
Macklemore is trying to convey is very smart, and I believe that there should be equality on who
you love. I also thing that the words such as gay shouldn t be used with such negative connotations,
and I m sure many others in our society would

Book Report On The Glass Castle By Jeanette Walls
The Siblings That Overcame Their Bad Luck The only good luck some people ever have is being
born with the strength and determination to overcome their bad luck. This was the case for
Jeanette Walls and her siblings because they had to find their own way to finally have stability and
not be burdened with the problems her parents brought upon them. The book The Glass Castleby
Jeannette Walls is full of lies, despair, and hypocrisy as the Wall siblings struggle together to rise
from the bottom and escape from the misery in Little Hobart Street. The siblings were bullied
throughout their childhood by other kids either physically and verbally because of their looks, and
financial situation. It was during their time in Little Hobart... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They were always hungry and their parents were not working because Rose Mary was lazy and
Rex was drunk most of the time. The siblings had to fetch food from trashcans at school in
stealth mode. Maureen solved the problem by going over to her friend s house and had dinner
with them. Brain, Lori, and Jeannette all had to scavenge for their food and clothes. Until one
day they just had enough essentially, leading them to leave their parents and began the journey
to acquire a prosperous life. They began saving up for the expenses of transportation, Lori made
posters and Jeanette worked in Jewelry store and bay sat and Brain mowed lawns. They were
saving it in a piggy bank, but one day Jeanette came home to an empty piggy bank, she knew it
was her father. When Lori, and Bran found out they were furious the siblings all waited patiently
for Rex to arrive. They waited three days but when arrived he was drunk and not long after
pasted out. The sibling realized it was pointless arguing with Rex, he just made them feel even
more miserable. Eventfully another opportunity came up; Mrs. Sanders offered Jeanette and
opportunity to escape by offering her a job in Iowa babysitting and a buying her ticket back
home. Jeanette change the offer to ticket to New York city and it was a deal. The twist was as bad

The Effects Of Cloning On Human Life

11 February 2016 The Effects of Cloning
Cloning. The very word instills feelings of excitement, hope, possibilities and a montage of
futuristic images of test tubes and beakers and DNA ladders spinning through space. But the word
also conjures anxiety, fear and internal struggle over right and wrong, good vs. evil, science vs.
religion. The cloning of vital organs or cells to cure diseases could potentially save the lives of
millions of people around the world. Throughout the past, experiments have shown the benefits that
cloning can give the people of the world. It could give people who cannot reproduce because of
infertility a chance to give birth to their own children. If cloning is used ... Show more content on

With the current tests on the cloning of animals, it shows that, even with the small chance that they

and died early in their lives (Jaenisch 2787). According to a survey in an article done by Joshua
May, in 2014 that only 13% of Americans believe cloning humanbeings is generally morally
acceptable (26). Manali Oak, an author for Buzzle.com, states that the cloning of the human race
may slowly cause a change in how people evolve and adapt since the human body will no longer
need to build immunities or be hardened by the toughness in nature (3). He believes cloning would
provide the opportunity for the human race with the ability to cure anything and avoid sickness,
which would leave humans defenseless if a situation arises and cloning is unavailable for use (3).

The Pros And Cons Of Internet Privacy
Now, the Internet is not only a way people access information, but also the net that connects them.
People use it to communicate with friends and family, keep current events and shop online. The

people have laws to protect themselves. People now much more cherish their privacy, so the

The Human Walking Gait Cycle
Exoskeletons and orthoses are defined as mechanical devices worn by an operator and fitted closely
to the body to work in concert with the operator s movements. The term exoskeleton is used to
describe a device that augments the wearers performance, while the term orthosis is used to
describe a device used to assist a person with limb pathology. Lower extremity exoskeletons seek to
circumvent the limitations of autonomous legged robots by adding a human operator to the
system. The system is designed in parallel with human limbs to augment human strength and
endurance during locomotion. The basic system design consists of two powered anthropomorphic
legs, a power unit, associated actuators, sensors, and a control unit.
When designing exoskeletons it is necessary to understand the biomechanics of human walking.
The human walking gait cycle is represented on a scale of 0% to 100% and includes several
notable phases shown in Figure 1. The structure of a human leg contains total of 7 Degrees of
Freedom (DOF) with three rotational DOFs located at the hip, one at the knee and three at the
ankle. Degrees of Freedom are directional factors that affect the range of independent motion in a
system. Biomechanical measures of level ground walking at the hip, knee, and ankle are shown in
Figure 2. The power requirement curves display the general power fluctuation for the hip as
positive or near zero, the knee as negative, and the ankle is as equally balanced. This outcome

Research Paper On Sir Edward Elgar
Sir Edward Elgar
I am doing my music research paper on Sir Edward Elgar s Pomp and circumstance March
number one. I will be covering a short biography of Edward, genre of the piece, and the overall
composition and why I chose this particular piece of music. Elgar was born on June 2, 1857 at
Broad heath, a village about three miles from the small city of Worcester in the English West
Midlands. His father had a music shop in Worcester and tuned pianos, so Edward was exposed
to music at an early age. He studied the music that was in his father s music shop and began to
teach himself a wide variety of instruments. Elgar is actually known for being a largely self
taught composer which is a very remarkable fact about him. Elgar battled for many years to
establish himself as a composer because of prejudices of religious backgrounds. Elgar was a
member of the Roman Catholic Church which was a minority in a protestant England at the
time. Eventually in 1889 he married Caroline Alice Roberts who was the daughter of Sir Henry
Roberts, a general in the British army. March number one, was composed in 1901 in Queen s
Hall London and dedicated to one of Edward s good friends Alfred E. Rodewald. The first march
is the most known of all of the six marches. March number one was premiered on October 19 of
that same year. March number one is the first of five marches by Elgar s Pomp and Circumstance.
In this piece the instruments that are used are two piccolos, two flutes, two clarinets, two oboes,
bass clarinet, two bassoons, contrabassoon, four horns, two cornets, three trombones, tuba, three
timpani percussions, tambourine, two harps, organ, and strings. The tenary form which is a three
part musical form (A B A) contains the famous tune known as Land of Hope and Glory. In 1902,
the tune was re ued for King Edward VII, and then later modified to fit the original tune. March
number one is often known as the graduation march in the United States because it is played at
graduations. March number one first became associated with graduations in 1905, when Elgar
received an honorary doctorate from Yale in 1905. After Yale used this exceptional piece of music,
it soon began to flourish at different universities. March number

Task Set Reconfiguration Effect
The Effect of Task Set Reconfiguration on Performance
Teema J. Credle
Brooklyn College Department of Psychology
Abstract
Task switching is the cognitive ability to switch between one task to the next. Research shows that
when a person switches from one task to another, there will be a higher incidence of errors coupled
with slower reaction time (switch cost) as opposed to trials where a person is doing the same task
over and over (repeat trial). The switch cost is attributed to task set reconfiguration because of the
time it takes to reconfigure task sets. In this task switch experiment we measured reaction times and
error rates on both repeat trials and switch trials (task switches). Twenty one participants from ...

In a study conducted by Meiran (1996), he found that when extending the cue target interval he

switch cost completely discovering and developing ways to decrease switch cost would

ways to be more efficient and productive as we set out to complete our various tasks. A
suggestion for future research would be to create more real life experiments that people actually
engage in frequently. Most of the current research is conducted on a computer and while I believe
the results are accurate from these studies, I would like to see more studies where participants are
engaging in more mundane activities. The results would probably be consistent with the findings
from prior studies. A factor to consider is that the studies conducted in a lab on computers are
quick, efficient, and concise. If we were to create a study where people were engaging in the same
tasks (data entry/answering phone calls) as the Executive Assistant mentioned earlier, the method
would be more complex and time consuming. However, I am intrigued to discover more on this

A Brief Use Of Androgenic Anabolic Steroids Essay
However, the benefit is not without risks, the most commonly known negative effects of AAS are
most often an increase in sexual drive, more body hair, increasingly aggressive behavior and acne

effect on the user in the long run; it fastens the production of erythropoietin synthesis and stimulates

There is a wide range of temporary and permanent adverse effects with steroid administration. The
severe symptoms could develop well within several weeks or less, it could take up to several

Essay Against Lowering The Drinking Age
Once a person turns eighteen, he or she receives many rights and privileges. One major right that all
of these teenagers are missing is the right to buy and consume alcohol. The question is posed is
whether lowering the minimum drinking age to eighteen would be a better or worse idea. Jeffery
A. Miron, a senior lecturer at Harvard University s economics department, and Elina Tetelbaum, a
law student from Yale University, write in their argumentative article in Forbes Magazine, The
Dangers of the Drinking Age , in which they believe that the minimum drinking age of twenty one
is not working. After conducting studies, they found that the minimum legal drinking ageof twenty
one has little or no effect on traffic fatalities. Lowering the minimum drinking age to eighteen
would likely have the same effects as the minimum age of twenty one; it is reasonable to assume
that underage teenagers may feel less rebellious knowing that they can legally buy and consume
alcohol at the age of eighteen.
Amethyst Initiative was a petition that called for a public debate about the effects of a minimum
drinking age of twenty one that was signed by over one hundred presidents of colleges and

producing benefits, the minimum legal drinking age supports irresponsible side effects such as

Accuvein Finder
Inserting an IV into a patient can be a painful experience, especially if the individual has veins
that are hard to visualize or palpate. Some reasons for difficulty inserting IV catheters include
obesity, veins that roll or blow easily, dark pigmented skin, and dehydration. With the help of
modern technology, devices called Accuvein finders have made it a less painful process for
patients. The author will discuss how these devices have compared to palpation and inspection on
hospitalized patients in the last five years. This paper will focus on three articles that tested the
Accuvein finders and the results of each. Accuvein is a device that uses infrared light to illuminate
veins (Aulagnier et al., 2014). It has been a preferred method over ultrasound because of its
portability and easy training. There are different brands of the vein illuminating devices, such as
Vein Locator Universal, which is used at Sharn Anesthesia in Tampa (Aulagnier et al., 2014).

Tension is the state of being stretched tight. For example if you have a piece of paper and you
try to stretch it won t this is called tension. If you cut out the bottom of a cup the tension is gone.
If you try to replace the bottom of the paper cups with something else for example, sand you can
also see that the sand replaces the bottom of the cups. The sand replaces the base to make it even
stronger than it was before. The sand s replacing the tension which causes the cups to stretch back

Untested Rape Boxs
Recent events revealed earlier this year have brought to light the massive backlog of untested rape
kits. An increased public awareness of this backlog and approved funding has moved the issue from
the back burner.
While the effort of processing the backlog of rape kits is noble and of great public interest it may
leave some questioning the benefits that this testing provides to the survivors of sexual assault and
the general public.
In 2014 an estimated 2,700 untested rape kits in Utah were being submitted for processing. Some
kits dating back to as early as 1999.
The discovery of the backlog pushed lawmakers to fund the testing of these forgotten kits. And in
2014 Lawmakers approved $750,000 to begin the processing of the kits. ... Show more content on

Of those 767 kits submitted to the lab 586 have been processed to date.
But, as reported by the Salt Lake Police Department, of the 586 processed kits 89 of the matches
led to 63 possible investigations. Twelve of those 63 cases were submitted to the Salt Lake District
Attorney for further review and out of those, seven were denied. The remaining five cases led to
three perpetrators being incarcerated. The remaining two are thought to have fled the country.
The general public, as well as some survivors of sexual assault may feel as if testing the rape kits
will remove rapists from their communities and put them where they belong. However, with
statistics being so low it brings up the question of whether quicker return times on processed kits
would aid in a greater amount of charges being filed, or if testing all of the rape kits would even be
beneficial?
According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse Incest National Network) the benefits of having a sexual
assault exam done increases the chances of a perpetrator being identified. DNA evidence can
also hold up in court better and is more likely to lead to charges being filed. And finally, the
collected DNA evidence is added to the FBI database CODIS (Combined DNA Index System). So if

A Defense Of Abortion Is A Moral Philosophy Paper
A Defense of Abortion is a moral philosophy paper written by Judith Jarvis Thomson. In this she
justifies abortion in a few select cases. She starts by examining the basic argument against abortion
and grants for the sake of argument that a human embryo is a person.
The basic argument (A) against abortion with no outside stipulations is something along the lines of:
1)The fetus is a person and every person has a right to life.
2)Therefore, the fetus has a right to life.
3)The mother has a right to decide what happens in and to her body.
4)But, the fetus s right to life outweighs the mother s right to decide what happens to her body
5)Therefore, a fetus may not be killed and an abortion may not be performed.
She suggests, however, that there are cases where a woman s right to her body would outweigh the
fetus s life. Abortion might sometimes be permissible in special cases.
Thomson uses a lot of different thought experiments and analogical arguments to present her
argument. Her first dilemma pertains to the violinist experiment:
1)If there is some ethical code, then it would be morally right to disconnect yourself from the
violinist.
2)There is a moral code/theory
3)Therefore, it is morally right for you to disconnect yourself.
1)A fetus may not be killed
2)If no fetus may be killed, then rape is not a moral reason to justify abortion
3)You cannot abort a pregnancyon the basis of rape

It is with great pleasure that I recommend Daisha Carson. I have known her for fourteen years.
As I have watched her grow into this beautiful inspiring young woman there has been nothing

adversities in her life that I feel has prepared her for taking on opportunities such as this. Daisha
has always displayed a high degree of integrity, responsibility, and ambition. She is definitely a

Is Animal Testing Necessary
Imagine sacrificing your own pet so it could be used for space exploration. In the Space Race, the
USA and the Russians would send animals to space to make sure it was safe enough for humans.
The animals were used to help improve technology and to help get the first man on the moon.
Without testing animals, we wouldn t have been able to know the effects it has on the humanbody or
if humans would be able to survive in space.
To begin with, animal testing was necessary because it was too risky to send a human to space.
According to Space.com, Calla Cofield wrote, We didn t even know if humans would be able to
digest their food [in space] (Cofield). Scientists had thought that if you went to space, your stomach

For reporting and analysis purposes, RapidKL uses the automatically collected data to estimate the
route ridership per hour. This data can be used to predict the total route ridership to be distributed

source for evaluating this study is the raw automatically collected data from Automatic Vehicle
Location (AVL), Automatic Passenger Counting (APC) and Automatic Fare Collection (AFC)
systems. The data from these systems is saved on the bus and transferred to the RapidKL database
when the bus refuels. The data from the AVL system can be used to identify running times and

Descriptive Essay On Basketball Team
Basketball Team One day my mom told me that I was on the Upward Basketball Team, a church
league for basketball. I was furious because I did not like basketball at all, but my mom loved
basketball, which is why she wanted me to play on the team.
I am not playing on the basketball team! I exclaimed.
Give it a chance. my mom pleaded.
No, I don t want to! Please don t make me do this, I begged as I banged my hand on the counter of
our island.
Please, give it a chance and then if you still don t like it, you don t have to do it. Ok?
Fine, I shouted and I started stomping up to my room.
Wait, your first game is on Saturday, she added.
Is there practice before the game?
Yes, but you are going to miss it because of gymnastics practice.
UGH, I groaned. So the rest of the night, I was stressing out over the first game because I had
never played basketball before. I didn t get to practice with my team. I don t even know my coach
or teammates. Why did my mom have to sign me up for basketball without even asking me?
My stomach was in knots. My heart was pounding. It was 30 minutes before my first basketball
game ever. My mom and I had arrived at the arena. It looked like it was just built with shiny red
paint everywhere except on the doors. The double doors were a dull brown color. As I walked in,
I was so overwhelmed. The building was not only enormous but also packed with tons of people.
Over all of the people, I thought that I recognized one of them. There

The Disagreements Over the Health Effects of Probiotics Essay
Since the year 1965, the term probiotics has been used. Lilly and Stillwell were the first to
describe probiotics as substances secreted by one organism, which stimulated growth of other
organisms (Gupta, 2009). It was however, Elie Metchnikoff in the 1900s who first suggested that
there were health properties in lactic acid bacteriafrom fermented food products (Anukam, 2007).
Since then, the meaning has undergone some changes, one of the most recent definitions is that
probiotics are beneficial live microorganisms, which must be consumed in a sufficient amount for
the desired health effect (Guarner, 1998). The Food and Agriculture Organisation/World Health
Organisation has adopted this definition but there are many other organisations... Show more

Therefore the bacterium ability to tolerate different pH levels is a crucial factor in determining their
probiotic use. Ability to attach to the gut epithelial cells and adequate production of antimicrobial
substances are also other important properties of probiotics (Granato, 2010). In terms of
commercial use and manufacturing, probiotics must be resilient and maintain cell viability during
periods of processing, packaging and storage (Saarela, 2009).
The number food companies that are now using strains of Lactic acid bacteria and Bifidobacteria
in their food products has increased considerably and it is now diary probiotic products that are
making between 60% 70% of the functional food market (Mohammadi, 2012). Fermented milk and
yogurt beverages are the main source of probiotics in supermarkets but there are also capsule and
powder formations in addition. The popularity of these products has increased due to the number of
documented benefits of consuming probiotic bacteria and support from media and marketing.
The documented health and nutritional benefits from consumption of probiotic food products show
alleviating gastrointestinal problems and many other health benefits (Granato, 2010). Various
randomised controlled trials have shown that in children with acute diarrhoea, probiotics has
reduced the duration of diarrhoea by reducing stool frequency. It has shown to be a safe

Strategies to recruit and retention of students Every university adopts some strategies for
recruitment and retention of international students. Those strategies are according to university
resources and programs.
Students as Resources
Students are a real resource of an institution and can help a university in the planning of strategic
plan for recruitment of more students. All students have gone through the procedure of recruitment
at a university and they know well which factors were motivational. They can tell reasons why
students chose those programs and what features need to be changed. They can tell what kind of
communication will work with another student from their home country because they have lived in
that culture so they know more than any other person. Using the student endorsement for
recruitment is words of mouth tacit which more successful practice is. Continuously taking
feedback from international population helps to know what they want and what they are expecting
from a program? Why do they like university? A focus group or survey once a semester will help
to improve.

1950 s Fashion
Fashions fade. Style is eternal Once said the famous designer Yves Saint Laurent. In the 1950 s
marked the era in fashion that people think of as the turning point in fashion. Teenagers would be
looked at for their own fashion, and would have sexier outfits. Women would start to wear
accessories such as hats, glasses and diamonds (FashionHistory). They would show more skin and
have tighter outfits. Men would start to wear suits and look more formal. The cowboy look would
start to play a big role during this time. Many men would wear different colors including pink.
Before the 1950 s many teenagers would wear the same exact clothes as their parents did, in the
50 s we start to see fashion including teenagers as their own fashion. Teenage girls would wear
more colors, and tighter dresses to get a finer look. We also see that the teenagers start to go
farther into the accessories by wearing pearls, necklaces and waves many high class wives would
too. Many of the guy teenagers would wear sweaters or leather man jackets and the rebel high

Compare And Contrast Lady Macbeth And Elizabeth The Golden...
Elizabeth the golden age an Oscar nominated award directed by Shekhar Kapur relates strongly to
William Shakespeare s Macbeth in many ways, such as how characters from each text relate to one
another, how similar themes are explored in both productions and how both revolve around the
same period, the Elizabethan period. However, the overarching similarity between the two is that,
in both Macbethand Elizabeth: The Golden Age, women hold power in their societies, whether it be
through their own ambition or through the natural order. Women in both the film and the play can
exert political power in male dominated societies, and to some extent in both theatre productions,
powerful women are born into their social and political status, but despite this, women must still to
some extent get rid of their feminist characteristics to fulfil this power, and thus the female
characters from each text differs in the outcome they meet due to their actions.
While women in both texts can indeed wield political power in patriarchal societies, the two texts
differ in the outcome the female characters meet because of this power. Both Lady Macbeth and
Queen Elizabeth I see their place as a vehicle for power and control in their societies. Lady Macbeth
can reach her power through manipulation of Macbeth, questioning his masculinity, thus resulting
in him feeling threatened, and forced to commit the acts he did, when you durst do it, then you
were a man. While in Elizabeth: The Golden Age Mary

Google Vs. Google Glass Project Essay
Issues
All challenges encountered by Google after the announcement of the Google Glass Project were a
result of not having effectively communicating the company s Value Proposition which caused the
shutdown of Glass and Astro Teller now has to decide what to do to maximize business value for
Google. Google lost its reputation when it failed to market Glass in a transparent manner, what
was once perceived as a cool product has been seen as creepy.
Analysis
Through the SWOT analysis (see Appendix A), it is observed that Google had a strong lead in the
wearable eyewear category, as well as strength in Glass ability on location based advertising but
their weakness in marketing, especially on promotion, caused them to suffer from the declining
reputation. Google s advancing technology and strong reputation allowed them to easily enter the
wearable market and attract a huge wave of interest but the failure to take into consideration of the
many adoptions in their product ultimately led to the negative reputation it quickly received. One of
the biggest threats that can be observed is the growing competitive field of wearable technology. It
can be seen that competition is getting tougher and it makes it hard for any company to make a
breakthrough without any advantage. With the launch of PokГ©mon GO, it serves as an
opportunity for Google to attract the public through their interest in AR technology. It would also
allow Google to smoothly transition into the AR market through

Research Paper On Elephant Poaching
The Poaching Of Elephants And Rhinos.
From killing just one deer over the legal bag limit to harvesting tons of animal parts, poaching in
any form is illegal and laws are getting tougher to discourage it. If convicted, you can now be
charged with a felony and be sent to prison. All across the world citizens and law enforcement
officials are working tВogether to combat this problem (Simon Shadow).
Although it was made illegal around the 1800s, poaching remains a big problem across the world.
Elephants and rhinos are becoming extinct because people are illegally hunting them for their tusks
to sell the ivory. While the species population growth remains healthy, poaching remains a constant
threat. So what s the solution? Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But what would that do? One of the main challenges is that nobody can predict how legalizing
trade will affect the behavior of the end users in Asia. The government doesn t know if it will
make people more or less likely to poach elephants and rhinos. Many conservation groups have
expressed concern over the concept of legalizing the rhino horn trade. One key issue regarding
this solution to rhino poaching will be to understand how the trade in rhino horn will be
regulated. One of the main reasons for their opposition is that the government doesn t think it will
be enforceable. This is because markets where the trade would be active like in Vietnam simply
do not have the necessary enforcement regimes in place, history shows that occasional sales of
elephant ivory have not reduced poaching for ivory (african wildlife detective). While some
people think legalizing the ivory trade is a good idea most people do not agree with this

  • 2. The Culture Of American Culture American culture is portrayed as that of every other countries traditions, rituals, and cultures. As Americans, do we know our culture to be as anything other than that of a melting pot? That being said, is it ok to say for us to say, I can take your culture because it s meant to be shared anyway. Most of us have lived here our entire lives and it s what we have grown accustomed to. Can we speak on anyone else s behalf? I can. Even though I am American by birth, my blood is Mexican. I may not face the same hardships in this country to the extent of that of someone who is of Middle Eastern decent such as my land and oil being drained, or my people being racially abused and frowned upon so negatively, especially in air ports. I hate Cinco de mayo, and unfortunately for minorities, culture and everything else in the U.S. is controlled and ruled by a system that caters only to the white. A culture inherited by the any nation must meet the actual needs of [its] communities. Communities must also respect the expectations and aspirations set directly by indigenous people in order to prevent the misappropriation and misuse of traditional and cultural expressions. (T.P.T.C.E) The same way I cite and give credit to my sources on the essay I am writing, should be applied directly and effectively the same way to other peoples traditions that fit accordingly. White people must also acknowledge the fact that there is an ever present, rite of passage, for them, in other words and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Evils of Money and Industrialization in the Film, The... Evils of Money and Industrialization in the Film, The Wages of Fear The messages or themes of The Wages of Fear are fairly easy to understand. Among them all, the strongest of these messages is that, simply, money and greed can corrupt and even kill. This message is clear in several aspects of the film. For example, the plot of the story is that several men take on an incredibly dangerous task, knowing they could die, because the completion of the task could bring them a large sum of money. Of course, the incentivebehind their choice can be attributed to the local American oil company that is offering the money, which controls the local economy in the first place (the implication is that these men would not have to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One could argue that the characters own lust for money and material objects caused them to take the job transporting the nitroglycerine, and it is their own fault for what happened. After all, when the American oil company went in search of people to hire for the task, they made it very clear what the dangers were, and were entirely honest with the drivers about the possible consequences that they could face. If this argument is to hold fast then, the reasons that the four men, Mario, Bimba, Luigi, and Jo, accepted the job must be explored more closely. Was it only the lust for money that caused them to put themselves in danger, or did they have other motives? To answer this question, the first two characters that should be looked at are Jo and Mario. These are the two characters who undergo the largest character development throughout the film, and who have the most in depth reasons for putting themselves in danger. First, there is Jo. He is the older career criminal/gangster/ tough guy. His life revolves around portraying an image of being couth, and projecting his superior ego on other people. Mario is the younger tough guy, still trying to make a reputation for himself, who believes that by hooking up with Jo he can gain some respect from the other people around him. For ... Persuasive Essay On Becoming A Dentist Someone coming at you, with white latex gloves on, the tool with a hook that twinkles with deceit in hand, and as you re dazed from the anesthetics they gave you, they ask you to smile and then ask you to open wide to claw at your teeth and gums. That is what I want to be doing as my job for the rest of my life, scaring kids as a dentist. That s what people see them for, but what really makes a dentist? Lots of schooling, is one for sure, but you also must have simple skills that some may be born with or others have to learn. Explaining these things and learning about these things are crucial to my education to becoming a dentist. It may not seem like it, but dentists have a great deal of responsibilities when it comes to taking care of their patients. Being a dentist, you are there to help people become more informed on how to properly take care of their teeth and what they must do to achieve that beautiful smile! Dentists are also there to fill any cavities you may have or extract any decay that may be upon your teeth. Those dentures that you found beside your grandpa s sink? Dentists also make those, as well as fix and save any teeth that may be cracked. They also remove teeth that may have rotted out. When I first started thinking of what I wanted to become, I simply thought that I love seeing terrified people I mean, the smiles from everyone that walks in and out of the office that I d have! Two private trade organizations located in Washington, D.C, wrote the CCSS at the request of Achieve, a company created by Bill and Melinda Gates. This amendment pushed Ohio into the wrong direction especially in regards to protecting a student s privacy. Although Ohio s governor, Ted Strickland, signed and agreed to adopt a set of national standards in June 2009 to obtain 400 million dollars in Race To The Top (RTTT) money, he had not read or reviewed these standards as the completed CCSS were not published until July 2009. The Standards simply passed through the Ohio Congress without knowing the dangers. According to the article Myths versus Facts written by an anti CCSS group called Truth in American Education, most states implemented Common Core to be eligible to compete [in] the federal Race to Top Funding. At the request of Achieve Inc., the National Governor s Association (NGA) and the Chief Counsel of State School Officers (CCSSO) wrote national standards called CCSS. David Coleman, the new president of the State College Boards, admits that he had to sell these national standards to the governors. Although Coleman does not have any background in education, he received instruction to rewrite the SAT and ACT to align these national tests to the Common Core State Standards. The question remains as to whether CCSS began as a state led initiative or were established unconstitutionally? The next research tool that will be discussed is the Google search. • 9. Problem With The Problem Of Evil The Problem with the Problem of Evil I am arguing that the Logical Problem of Evil (LPE) is not a successful argument to reject the existence of God. This is due to the LPE arguing with an inaccurate definition for the word good . With the correct definition of good, I will show that an all good and all powerful God can logically exist simultaneously with evil. A response for my objection could be the Furthermore, if we allow the inadequate use of the word evil , the LPE still does not constitute the immediate rejection of the existence of God due to the concept of free will. A response to this objection is that individual humans are not free and are therefore not morally responsible for their actions. However, I will show that this response fails to disprove the existence of God. Logical Problem of Evil In the article Evil and Omnipotence , J. L. Mackie argues his version of the LPE. He defines evil to be concepts that good can abolish or get rid of. For the sake of this paper I define Mackie s concept of evil as pain and suffering. In Evil and Omnipotence Good is defined to be the taking away of pain and suffering. This definition of good and evil allows this argument to become valid : 1.God is all powerful and all good 2.Evil exists _ 3.God Doesn t exist The above argument is valid due to the logic that an all powerful and all good God would be able to and should eliminate all the evil in the world. • 10. Essay on Evolution of the Automobile Industry and Henry Ford Evolution of the Automobile Industry and Henry Ford Henry Ford, the high priest of efficiency, was the tinkerer craftsman who produced one of many horseless carriages, the automobile. Nearly three years after his only son was born in 1893, Ford succeeded in producing his first car. After months of vigorous work and two final sleepless nights, the Quadricycle tolled out of Ford s garage. The Quadricycle was a primitive machine, with a tiller for a steering wheel, bicycle tires, a bicycle seat and a bicycle chain to transfer the power of the engine to the wheels. Engine manufacturing plants did not exist, so Ford s car was constructed entirely by hand, with common parts recycled into new uses. A house doorbell was the horn.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ford revealed many new models in the next three years following the production of Model A. In January of 1906, his newest automobile, Model N, was produced. The car was the only 600 dollar vehicle with a four cylinder engine. The Ford sold over 800 units in the twelve months, ending in December of 1907. This was five times the amount of their previous annual sales. By the end of 1907, the company had made over one million in profit of sales of 4.7 million dollars. This profit was outstanding for the company, however, the consumers wanted a lower price for the automobile. This forced Henry Ford to promise in 1905 to build a high grade touring car and sell it at an unheard of price, and now, just as surely as every claim made for the small car was made good, just so surely has Ford made good this promise. The Model T was that car. The car that was promised a four cylinder, twenty horse power touring car. The Model T was a roomy, commodious, comfortable family car, that basically was as good as it got. Model T, known as the simplest of all cars, is an enlarged four cylinder box car that resembles today s go cart. The invention of this car made things much more convenient for our spread out country; including the increased development of roadways. • 11. Truck Drivers Research Paper Nearly everything you see in stores and even in your home was, at some point, transported overland by a truck. Tractor trailer rigs in particular, haul cargo over longer distances than those covered by local delivery trucks. Because of this, they carry much heavier loads and can weigh up to 80,000 pounds. This makes them 20 to 30 times heavier than the average car. Truck drivers must obey the same traffic rules as other vehicles on the road and like many motorists, their negligence can cause an accident. However, in a tractor trailer accident, the result can be devastating to the occupants of the other vehicle. Their overwhelming size and weight can completely demolish smaller vehicles. This is why so many federal regulations specifically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Truck drivers with multiple traffic violations and tractor trailer accidents on their driving record are somehow able to get rehired several times. Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings has delighted readers since its publication owing to its author s skillful development of his fantastic realm and its inhabitants adventures therein. In fact, Tolkien is rightly regarded as the father of the modern fantasy genre, and it often seems all fantasy imitates his work in some way. The last stage of their journey to Orodruin came, and it was a torment greater than Sam had ever thought he could bear. [4] Voluntarily accepting so great a task, certainly Frodo suffers on behalf of a people (all good peoples, in fact) with no hope of gratitude or even of surviving the venture. In fact, as Frodo and Sam stagger to their journey s end totally convinced that the completion of their task will signal the end of their lives, they parallel Jesus who understood that the completion of his ministry would end on the cross to the jeers of the very people to whom he gave everything. In acting for the corporate good, Frodo even suffers death and new life, in symbolic terms at least. After being attacked in the end of the second installment, Frodo is left for dead by Sam who fails to find a pulse or any other physical signs of life. Only later does Sam learn that the illusion of death is merely a symptom of the venomous attack of their foe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Comparison Of Copy Shop And Uncanny Valley The short film genre, being defined as a film that is not long enough to be a feature film and generally less than 40 minutes long, obviously is disadvantaged in terms of time compared to a feature film. However, this lack of time lets the director make more personal choices, allowing them to send their message in various ways. This is elucidated in short films Copy Shop, directed by Virgil Widrich, and Uncanny Valley, which is directed by Federico Heller. Copy shop describes the loss of individuality and uniqueness in today s society through the use of experimentation on unique filmtechniques while Uncanny Valley demonstrates the power of technology, especially in games by using an emphasis on aesthetics and visual techniques. This is especially conspicuous during the scenes of the gameplay, with an example being when the audience is first introduced to the targets . The wide angle shot beautifully captures the humanoid creatures and the landscape, with the 3D rendering and other special effects creating a visually dynamic scene. The splendid visuals add allure to the game while showing the power of technology, as it was technology that made the game so visually appealing. The accentuation on visual techniques also creates a juxtaposition between the real world and the world of virtual reality. The dilapidated old building with tattered walls and a dirty floor is contrasted to the splendid landscape laden with boulders and volcanoes. This shows how the virtual reality can become more influential than the real world, demonstrating the power of games. Heller also uses colour to show the distinction between virtual reality and the actual world. The world of VR uses rich high contrast colours, an example being the blue landscape with the orange skies, while the real world is dominated by the drab browns and greys. As high contrast colours are more eye catching, it shows how games have power over the real world. This emphasis on visual techniques in Uncanny Valley ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Analysis Of The Story Folie A Deux By William Trevor The story Folie a Deux by William Trevor explores the complexities of curiosity and maturation. The narrator, inspired by literary devices, details an important passage of the story, which portrays lunchtime conversations between Anthony, his father, and Miss Davally, and follows with the correspondence between Miss Davally and Wilby s mother where all involve the exchange of information. The passage is meaningful because it demonstrates an appraisal of information, and its impact on progress. Ultimately, the story suggests that information is arbitrarily powerful, and that genuine maturation is only fostered through nurtured curiosity. The portrayal of lunchtime conversations suggests information is invaluably powerful and depends on human connections to establish a worldview. While everyone is eating, the narrator describes that much other information (is) passed on at the lunch table , and details the questioned functionality of aeroplanes , time , and spiders (132). The narrator s description of how information is situated at the lunch table implicitly suggests human connections to be an important survival need, like nourishment or lunch , and infers their interdependency. Through the phrase much other information was passed on , the narrator conveys the abundantly distinct richness of information, which is inferred by the connotations much and other . Polk then moves troops into a disputed zone between the Rio Grande and the Nueces Riverto. It gave them a feeling of freedom and joy that had been lacking from previous music styles. Although rock became an instant hit with the youth, the music caused displeasure in the adult world. Rock was criticized for juvenile delinquency to loosened sexual standards (R amp;RG, 27). The most notorious example of what adults didn t like in rock music can be found in Elvis Presley. Elvis was the first white performer to expose an audience to rock music. However, the free will style Elvis exhibited was not a real big hit with the adults, where he was condemned as a whirling dervish of sex. Rock music then went on a tear, evolving into many different styles and forms. As rock matured and diversified, many new artists and distinct styles emerged. Such examples are blues, featured by B.B. This song is about the struggles society creates for people identifying as a homosexual and discusses equality and discrimination of people that like the same sex. Macklemore was driven to write this song because of the issue of equal marriage right and the use of gay as degrading word in society and in the hip hop industry. He wanted to set an example for others in the music industry, and help change the stereotypes of homosexuality. As Macklemore writes in his song a bunch of stereotypes all in my head this shows that society riddles our brains into thinking that it isn t alright to be gay, when really it is. These stereotypes make it hard for people to feel accepted about their sexuality. This song discusses how gay is used in an insultive way as quoted in the lyrics; If I was gay I would think hip hop hates me, Have you read the YouTube comments lately, Man that s gay Gets dropped on the daily, We ve become so numb to what we re sayin These examples show the connection of love, but in a different way to what we would usually expect. This song has a different view on the connection of love compared to other books with the theme of love, as it is about homosexuality rather than heterosexuality. In my opinion I think what Macklemore is trying to convey is very smart, and I believe that there should be equality on who you love. I also thing that the words such as gay shouldn t be used with such negative connotations, and I m sure many others in our society would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The term exoskeleton is used to describe a device that augments the wearers performance, while the term orthosis is used to describe a device used to assist a person with limb pathology. Lower extremity exoskeletons seek to circumvent the limitations of autonomous legged robots by adding a human operator to the system. The system is designed in parallel with human limbs to augment human strength and endurance during locomotion. The basic system design consists of two powered anthropomorphic legs, a power unit, associated actuators, sensors, and a control unit. • 26. Research Paper On Sir Edward Elgar Sir Edward Elgar I am doing my music research paper on Sir Edward Elgar s Pomp and circumstance March number one. I will be covering a short biography of Edward, genre of the piece, and the overall composition and why I chose this particular piece of music. Elgar was born on June 2, 1857 at Broad heath, a village about three miles from the small city of Worcester in the English West Midlands. His father had a music shop in Worcester and tuned pianos, so Edward was exposed to music at an early age. He studied the music that was in his father s music shop and began to teach himself a wide variety of instruments. Elgar is actually known for being a largely self taught composer which is a very remarkable fact about him. Elgar battled for many years to establish himself as a composer because of prejudices of religious backgrounds. Elgar was a member of the Roman Catholic Church which was a minority in a protestant England at the time. Eventually in 1889 he married Caroline Alice Roberts who was the daughter of Sir Henry Roberts, a general in the British army. March number one, was composed in 1901 in Queen s Hall London and dedicated to one of Edward s good friends Alfred E. Rodewald. The first march is the most known of all of the six marches. March number one was premiered on October 19 of that same year. March number one is the first of five marches by Elgar s Pomp and Circumstance. In this piece the instruments that are used are two piccolos, two flutes, two clarinets, two oboes, bass clarinet, two bassoons, contrabassoon, four horns, two cornets, three trombones, tuba, three timpani percussions, tambourine, two harps, organ, and strings. The tenary form which is a three part musical form (A B A) contains the famous tune known as Land of Hope and Glory. In 1902, the tune was re ued for King Edward VII, and then later modified to fit the original tune. March number one is often known as the graduation march in the United States because it is played at graduations. One major right that all of these teenagers are missing is the right to buy and consume alcohol. The question is posed is whether lowering the minimum drinking age to eighteen would be a better or worse idea. Jeffery A. After conducting studies, they found that the minimum legal drinking ageof twenty one has little or no effect on traffic fatalities. Lowering the minimum drinking age to eighteen would likely have the same effects as the minimum age of twenty one; it is reasonable to assume that underage teenagers may feel less rebellious knowing that they can legally buy and consume alcohol at the age of eighteen. Some reasons for difficulty inserting IV catheters include obesity, veins that roll or blow easily, dark pigmented skin, and dehydration. With the help of modern technology, devices called Accuvein finders have made it a less painful process for patients. The author will discuss how these devices have compared to palpation and inspection on hospitalized patients in the last five years. This paper will focus on three articles that tested the Accuvein finders and the results of each. Accuvein is a device that uses infrared light to illuminate veins (Aulagnier et al., 2014). It has been a preferred method over ultrasound because of its portability and easy training. There are different brands of the vein illuminating devices, such as Vein Locator Universal, which is used at Sharn Anesthesia in Tampa (Aulagnier et al., 2014). • 35. Untested Rape Boxs Recent events revealed earlier this year have brought to light the massive backlog of untested rape kits. An increased public awareness of this backlog and approved funding has moved the issue from the back burner. While the effort of processing the backlog of rape kits is noble and of great public interest it may leave some questioning the benefits that this testing provides to the survivors of sexual assault and the general public. In 2014 an estimated 2,700 untested rape kits in Utah were being submitted for processing. Some kits dating back to as early as 1999. The discovery of the backlog pushed lawmakers to fund the testing of these forgotten kits. And in 2014 Lawmakers approved $750,000 to begin the processing of the kits. ... Twelve of those 63 cases were submitted to the Salt Lake District Attorney for further review and out of those, seven were denied. The remaining five cases led to three perpetrators being incarcerated. The remaining two are thought to have fled the country. The general public, as well as some survivors of sexual assault may feel as if testing the rape kits will remove rapists from their communities and put them where they belong. However, with statistics being so low it brings up the question of whether quicker return times on processed kits would aid in a greater amount of charges being filed, or if testing all of the rape kits would even be beneficial? According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse Incest National Network) the benefits of having a sexual assault exam done increases the chances of a perpetrator being identified. DNA evidence can also hold up in court better and is more likely to lead to charges being filed. And finally, the collected DNA evidence is added to the FBI database CODIS (Combined DNA Index System). • 38. A Defense Of Abortion Is A Moral Philosophy Paper A Defense of Abortion is a moral philosophy paper written by Judith Jarvis Thomson. In this she justifies abortion in a few select cases. She starts by examining the basic argument against abortion and grants for the sake of argument that a human embryo is a person. The basic argument (A) against abortion with no outside stipulations is something along the lines of: 1)The fetus is a person and every person has a right to life. 2)Therefore, the fetus has a right to life. 3)The mother has a right to decide what happens in and to her body. 4)But, the fetus s right to life outweighs the mother s right to decide what happens to her body 5)Therefore, a fetus may not be killed and an abortion may not be performed. She suggests, however, that there are cases where a woman s right to her body would outweigh the fetus s life. Abortion might sometimes be permissible in special cases. Thomson uses a lot of different thought experiments and analogical arguments to present her argument. Her first dilemma pertains to the violinist experiment: 1)If there is some ethical code, then it would be morally right to disconnect yourself from the violinist. 2)There is a moral code/theory 3)Therefore, it is morally right for you to disconnect yourself. 1)A fetus may not be killed 2)If no fetus may be killed, then rape is not a moral reason to justify abortion 3)You cannot abort a pregnancyon the basis of rape 1)If two or more actions are similar in moral aspects and one is right, ... Elizabeth the golden age an Oscar nominated award directed by Shekhar Kapur relates strongly to William Shakespeare s Macbeth in many ways, such as how characters from each text relate to one another, how similar themes are explored in both productions and how both revolve around the same period, the Elizabethan period. However, the overarching similarity between the two is that, in both Macbethand Elizabeth: The Golden Age, women hold power in their societies, whether it be through their own ambition or through the natural order. Women in both the film and the play can exert political power in male dominated societies, and to some extent in both theatre productions, powerful women are born into their social and political status, but despite this, women must still to some extent get rid of their feminist characteristics to fulfil this power, and thus the female characters from each text differs in the outcome they meet due to their actions. While women in both texts can indeed wield political power in patriarchal societies, the two texts differ in the outcome the female characters meet because of this power. Both Lady Macbeth and Queen Elizabeth I see their place as a vehicle for power and control in their societies.
