Virtual Study Hall
Every end of marking period and progress check some students rush to complete all their work
on time. They may have loads of lessons due and are rushing to complete them. Sometimes there
are virtual study hall days on the ends of marking periods or progress checks though, and those
let students work on past assignments without having to work on new lessons. The thing is, they
don t have them every end of marking period or progress check. One thing I think that would
make progress checks and marking periods less stressful would be to have virtual study halls every
end of marking period/progress check, so let s look at some ways a study hall would be beneficial
to students and teachers alike!
So first of all, teachers would have a better day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the time marking periods and progress checks are very stressful. But if there was a
virtual study hall day at the end of every marking period/progress check, it would make things a
lot easier for the students. Students would only have to work on past assignments and would also
want to work harder so they can have the day off. Who knows, maybe they would even want to
work ahead on lessons, too.
Finally, students would be able to complete all their work on time. It would allow students with
lessons that have piled up over time to be able to get them done. It would also mean less
assignments due. In the end it,would probably just amount to more students getting assignments
finished before the due date. Because of this study hall days would most likely help lots of students.
On the other hand, teachers have to post a certain amount of lessons each year. In order to combat
this problem, the school would just subtract off certain days from breaks. Or maybe they would
have a few more days of school before summer break. Also,it could just mean having more lessons
posted on other days. Either way, the teachers would be able to post the required number of lessons,
and students would have the needed time before important

Bart Simpson Research Paper
A trickster is a character that survives by wits and skill. They are also very crafty (Mythology in
Literary Culture). Tricksters are everywhere. You never know when they are going to strike.
They could do it to make things better or worse. They impact a story in a good way or a bad way
but regardless they help create the conflict of the story. There are famous ones and there are normal
ones. In this case there are three big tricksters from Greek mythology, Norse mythology, and
modern day characters in TV shows. The Greek God Hermes, the Norse God Loki, and the funny
character Bart Simpson from the Simpsons all share the qualities and characteristics of being a
trickster.

Bart is a special character, who confuses people to make them look stupid. He is a trickster day
in and day out committing errors and having fun while doing so. Additionally, he never stops
which means that there is trouble all the time in the Simpsons neighborhood. One instance in
which he displayed his trickery was when he switched papers with this kid named Martin and
everyone thought that he was super smart and intelligent. He then went to a top level school
and had a hard time so he got caught (Milthorpe). Bart tricks people in many different ways,
physically, mentally and even without people realizing that the jokes on them. Another example
of him displaying trickery was when Bart made a tee shirt saying down with homework. He got
the idea from mad magazine. This stunt lead to the whole school having to wear uniforms that
took the life out of everyone until the gray got washed away and the uniforms turned colorful
(Milthorpe). Bart uses artistry and imagination from a magazine to create a stylish outfit for
everyone to wear. Bart is one of those tricksters that mostly commits trickery for the bad of
others. Whatever Bart does, he always ends up destroying something and/or ruining someone s
day or even their life. He is a much different trickster than Hermes and Loki in that he is more of
a destroyer trickster than a transgressor or a hero type of trickster. Hermes and Loki however,

Key Avant-Garde Movements Of The Twentieth Century
Key avant garde movements, including Suprematism, Constructivism and Futurism, influenced
contemporary political graphics of the twentieth century. Particularly focusing on political and
propaganda posters of the Soviet Union it is evident they were influenced by avant garde
movements that were developing in neighboring and western countries during the same period.
Suprematism, focusing on basic geometric shapes with a limited range of colours is evident in
numerous propaganda posters in Russiaat the beginning of the twentieth century. Constructivism,
developing from Russian Futurism is aimed to create works that would make the viewer an active
viewer. Futurism also influences the posters in a way that allows them to illustrate futuristic and
abstract things as well as many posters containing qualities of cubism. Being influenced by these
movements it gave the Russian government a way to show they weren t old fashioned and were
able to keep updated with the developing countries around them.
Futurism is the most important Italian avant garde movements of the twentieth century. Celebrating
the advanced technology and urban modernity the world was quickly developing, futurism aimed to
demonstrate the beauty of the machine, speed, violence and change. It allowed artists and designers
to communicate with an audience in a new way that wasn t so traditional. This was particularly
helpful to Russia during the time of the revolution because accompanying a new outlook on politics

Organisational Structure Essay
Introduction to organizational structure An organization structure refers to an arrangement of
people, relationship and responsibilities in carrying out company activities to achieve goal. In
addition it also can define as how a people in the organization are group together and to whom they
report. Formal structure is needed for larger organization that decisions have to be made about the
delegation of various tasks. In an organization structure clearly indicate and separate between the

Another benefit of functional organization structure is coherent chain of command. For example,

chain of command is needed, this is because it creates standard operation procedures, besides
established consequences also enhanced accountability. Another advantages of functional structure
is it cans expedited decision making. This is because normally group decision making will slow
down progress on project due to the diverse perspectives involved. But in this structure because
people have similar professional and educational background the decision making process will be
much easier. In addition functional structure also allows work to be done by qualified and skilled
individual in the area concern. Hence, another advantage of this structure is that it reduces cost by
reducing duplication and use of resource in the organization. 1.2 Disadvantage of Functional
Structure Functional structure also have disadvantage. The disadvantage of functional structure is
because functional structure separate by function, as a result employee having a very little
understanding or concern for other area instead of their own area. Because of this separation there
is a barrier in communication and overall cooperation and coordination. Beside that in this structure
individual focus is rather than a company focus. 3 2.0 Geographic Structure Geographic structure

It s Time to Eliminate Nuclear Weapons Essay
Imagine, if you will, that you are the title character in the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper
Cranes, a young Japanese girl suffering from the devastating atom bomb sickness. Sadako was a
vivacious eleven year old with dreams of becoming a track star. Sadly, that ended when doctors
diagnosed her with leukemia, An atom bomb had been dropped over her hometown of Hiroshima
during W.W. II, poisoning her with its radiation.
Sadako s friend Chizuko tried to cheer her up by saying, If a sick person folds 1000 paper cranes,

Out of all this despair comes a ray of hope. Abolition 2050, a global network aiming to eliminate
nuclear weapons, hopes for an international treaty halting proliferation by the new millennium.
Already, more than 110 states of the Non Aligned Movement have called for the elimination of
nuclear weaponry by the next century. Several countries have given up their nuclear arms in hopes
of promoting worldwide peace. Activist groups affiliated with Abolition 2050 are working to make
a nuclear free world. Their success or failure hinges on the involvement of today s youth.
First, young people can aid Abolition 2050 s cause by forming peace clubs on school campuses.
Cynicism is so pervasive in our world today that we believe a few voices can never make a
difference. I say to you that a few voices can make all the difference. A few people start the ball
rolling. A few people s tongues can spread the word to millions. And a few hearts can relieve the
suffering of many. A peace club s primary goals would be to educate the public about the dangers
of nuclear weaponry and to support programs aimed at passing legislation against proliferation. An
effective way to bring the message home is by visiting every classroom with a speech about the
dangers of nuclear energy. Such a speech should include the history of nuclear devastation, its

Nationalism and Imperialism Whether it s nationalism and/or imperialism we are affected by these
angles all through out our lifetime, there are benefits to both nationalism and imperialism such that
each can favorably support their nations respectively. These two features can be very powerful
forces that can bring a nation together in its greatest time of need but may be able to subjugate
another nation. By definition, nationalism is a patriotic feeling; an extreme case of nationalism is
when a person and/or country feel a strong sensation of dominance over one or more countries. In
contrast imperialism can be defined as a strategy that encompasses another countries authority and
influence amongst mediation or by using military obligation. Nationalism and imperialism both
benefit society through their social, political and technological aspects. The social traits pertaining
to nationalism result in a nations unity usually formed through a significant event or in extreme
cases of patriotism. Similarly, imperialism is moreover affected by social attributes that may not be
one specific event, but occurred over a longer period of time. Nationalism creates a united front that
in time produces a well governed nation For example the United States of America is a nation that
goes to extreme levels of promoting patriotism. The government advertises to the people to put the
country first before them. For instance Ask not

World War Part 2 Summary
In Part II, Glover discusses the tragic effects of war on the average person s morality. This is done
through morally distancing oneself from what events that are considered horrific or tragic. As
soldiers and armies slowly distance themselves from close range combat with long range strikes
such as missiles and drones, there is more acceptance of what is normally considered impermissible.
Glover concludes that the weight of war on the human moral identity breaks it down. It enforces a
civilian to go against one the biggest tenants of civilian life which is to do not harm and not kill.
By requiring soldiers to kill other humans, they require a dehumanization of soldiers in order to
make them more effective as well as skewing their moral compass. Glover shows that events such
as Mai Lai and soldiers abusing civilians doesn t stem from a trait, but from the erosion of human
morality as conflicting traumatic events force the individual to change their own code.
Current literature supports Glover s theory in terms of the damaging effect of war on the human
psychology. It has progressed to the point where soldiers experience flashbacks or PTSD from
how horrifying the experience was. The effects of war on the individual is well documented and

It seems as though people have a morality tuner which they can slide up or down depending on
the situation in order to cope. However, Glover describes that the civilian take a complete 180
from completely tabooing murder to needing to improve at it to be more effective. This complete
shift in ideology comes with the shift in a moral compass of the individual. If armies are
intentionally training soldiers to lose emotion and become more of Robots, then its not wonder that
people s moral compass is nothing better than a robot s conditional

Case Study: Giving and Receiving on Freecycle.org Freecycle.org or as nicknamed by users,
Freebay is a great way for individuals to give away items that they no longer want. It is very
apparent that this website has achieved such high levels of success and growth in such a short
period of time, due to the fact that they are different from all other sites. Everyone has become
accustomed to a world where nothing is free. Human beings are used to to having to pay for
anything they receive. Most people are even leery of the fact of receiving something for free. The
common question behind something being given away for free is what s the catch? The same is
true for websites. As consumers, we are programmed to believe that when... Show more content on

This particular website actually refers people to various free sites, including Freecycle.org. This
site provides shoppers another means for purchasing items, without spending money. Therefore,
by providing another means for people to receive products, their purchasing habits may change.
Other businesses and websites such as eBay, could possibly benefit from the freecycling
business. Many Americans are actually in full support of going green , but not everyone does it;
presumably because they either don t think about it or because there aren t enough businesses
supporting it. This is especially true when it comes to making purchases. As previously stated,
consumers are accustomed to having to spend money to receive items in return. So, the concept of
giving things away and receiving things for free do not necessarily resonate easily, without
reminders. Furthermore, consumers may not realize just how wasteful they really are and how
they could actually help save the society by giving things away, instead of throwing them in the
trash. In 2010, AOL News provided an article called, Many Americans Believe in Going Green;
Fewer Actually Do It . The article discusses how a survey was conducted at Yale University and
George Mason University, showing that Americans feel it s important to conserve energy and help
the environment, but they just aren t doing it. This demonstrates not only the lack of action of those

Building Design of the Engineering and Computing Builiding...
Introduction
As an aspiring Architectural Technologist I will be expected to possess a variety of skills which are
valuable for any Architectural Technologist position. I will be studying and evaluating a building
design of the Engineering and Computing Building, Coventry. I am to assess the structure,
identifying, why the building was designed in the way it was, the impact, challenges and purposes.
This will allow me to understand the integration of architectural and structural design.
1.1Design philosophy and aesthetics
The Engineering and Computing Building (ECB) was designed by Arup Associates and built by
main contractor Vinci. In designing this building Arup Associates were trying to create a
sustainable postmodern building, which would become a flagship for the university and a
landmark in the centre of the city. Designed to meet the university s long term needs in terms of
improving the student learning experience, using the building as a learning tool in itself.
The 15,000mВІ building is enclosed in a square, split into two L shaped blocks. Linked together by
a glazed entrance at the corner and separated by a large gap on the opposite corner.
The L block facing the south and west has been configured as the Nature block. This four storey
Nature wing features a green and blue roof planted with foliage, providing a variety of habitats to
encourage the local wildlife. Well known to attract insects that pipistrelle bats are known to prefer.

The Criticism Of Totalitarianism
Totalitarianism is a political system in which the state recognizes no limits to its authority and
strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever it can be done. A distinctive
feature of totalitarian governments is an elaborate ideology, a set of ideas that gives meaning and
direction to the society .
The concept was first developed in the 1920s by the Weimar German jurist, and later Nazi
academic, Carl Schmitt, and Italian fascists. Schmitt used the term, Totalstaat, in his influential
work on the legal basis of an all powerful state, The Concept of the Political (1927). The concept
became prominent in Western political discourse as a concept that highlights similarities between
Fascist states and the Soviet Union. The notion of totalitarianism as a total political power by the
state was formulated in 1923 by Giovanni Amendola, who described Italian Fascism as a system
fundamentally different from conventional dictatorships. The term was later assigned a positive
meaning in the writings of Giovanni Gentile, Italy s most prominent philosopher and leading
theorist of fascism. He used the term totalitario to refer to the structure and goals of the new state,
which were to give the total representation of the nation and total guidance of national goals. He
described totalitarianism as a society in which the ideology of the state had influence, if not power,
over most of its citizens. According to Benito Mussolini, this system politicized everything

Analysis Of David K. Shipler s The Working Poor
The novel, The Working Poor by David K. Shipler gives us an inside look into the lives of the
lower class and he explores exactly what it means to do hard, exhausting but honest work in
America. The working poor are working people whose incomes fall below the poverty line.
While poverty is often associated with joblessness, a significant proportion of the poor are
actually employed. Shipler teaches us that just because you have finally become employed does
not mean that most or all of your worries are over, often times they are increased. Largely
because they are earning such low wages, the working poor face numerous obstacles that make it
difficult for many of them to find and keep a job, save up money, and maintain a sense of self
worth. Shipler did an amazing job bringing light to the forgotten America . Shipler used different
methods, interviews, participant observation, existing sources and outcomes to display the lives of
the invisible society. The interviews that Shipler conducted took him to different locations around
the country. Shipler journeys deeply into the lives of individual store clerks, factory workers, farm
laborers, sweat shop seamstresses, illegal immigrants in low jobs and Americans with tremendous
student loans and poor wages. He interviews people that work voluntary part time, involuntary part
time, usual full time and people that did not work the year. His interviews examines the poor in a
trapped cycle of dead end jobs without benefits or

Scapegoats In The Scarlet Letter And The Awakening
Scapegoats in The Scarlet Letter and The Awakening
The act of blaming others for problems is a common phenomena that occurs not only in our society,
but also in literature. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, Pearl Prynne represents the
scapegoat. Throughout the novel, the townspeople put the blame of Hester Prynne s sin on Pearl
and Hester grows as a person. Pearl gives Hester a daily reminder of her sin and Hester grows to
becomes a happier, better person in response. In addition, another example of a scapegoat is Leonce

Overall, the archetype of a scapegoat, in literature or history, exemplifies an important role. The
scapegoat is a character that has an important tie to the problem the protagonist. In other words,
the scapegoat isn t a random person, and one of the biggest scapegoats in literature was Tom
Robinson. Although Tom wasn t blood related to the Finch s, Atticus was representing Tom in
trial, which is the relation to the protagonist in this novel. As shown above, a scapegoat is a
valuable person in literature, as well as real life. They provide a connection to the protagonist that
is not like any other character. All in all, the archetype of a scapegoat is imperative in literature and
the world, and continues to impact our society everyday.
The archetype of a scapegoat is represented by Pearl Prynne in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet
Letter. In the novel, the townspeople view Pearl as a personification of Hester Prynne s sin, and
they do not treat her fairly because they only see her as the result of a horrible crime. And
although Hester doesn t see Pearl in this light for the most part, there is a time in which her view
on her daughter changes. The village blames Pearl because they need to find someone to blame it
on, which illustrates the role of a scapegoat in a novel. A scapegoat is an innocent character in
which a problem is blamed on. In this case, the puritans put responsibility on Pearl because they
can not blame Hester anymore. She is

The definition of burglary in South Carolina is straight forward, consistent with most state statutes.
This includes, but is not limited to: home, business, warehouse, garage, tool shed, dog house, etc.
Burglary occurs when anyone enters a structure with criminal intent and without the owner s
consent. It bears mentioning that the above represent two elements , and both of these elements are
necessary for one to be charged with burglary. As with any other charge in the American criminal

uncomfortable spluttering from the couple. Tracy then insinuates that Connor should have married
Elizabeth if he loves her, at which Connor jerks and becomes uncomfortable. This moment exposes
Connor s emotional distance, an issue that continues throughout the film. It appears that Connor is

When asked why she has not married him yet, Elizabeth responds, he s still got a lot to learn. I

While he is aware of his classism towards the wealthy, it is not until the end of the film that he
recognizes that his prejudice towards the upper class is unfair. Connor is not aware of the extent
to which he expresses his dislike of the upper class, in spite of being faced with examples that

As the story progresses, Connor begins to realize that the wealthy are as dysfunctional as

Feeling Like A Role Model
Feeling like a role model was an amazing sensation. Working as a customer experience
representative was emotionally validating in itself. Yet when combined with an audience, the work
became doubly fulfilling. In some ways, it boosted her self esteem and drove her to become the best
version of herself. She noticed that when her daily life was made transparent, her words and actions
became happier, more altruistic, and more intellectually interesting. She had been told that this
would be a positive effect of going transparent, but she had not anticipated other changes. She had
not anticipated that being transparent would actually redirect some of her less than perfect habits.
The camera s influence caused her to think more carefully about the way she presented herself.
When she thoughtof her viewers seeing her choices, she felt pressured to make healthy choices.
Thus, she abstained from sugary foods, and consumed socially acceptable levels of alcohol.
When she thought of the camera catching her consuming aspirin, she was ashamed of the image
that this might project and rerouted her behavior. Thus, she entered a life where she abstained
from the parts of her life that she found imperfect. Being watched was a way to curb bad
behavior. Mae found this freeing, and she was revered as a role model for this projected
perfection. This in turn gave Mae the responsibility of bringing light to the lives of her viewers.
This was a duty that kept her going day to day.

Irish Republican Army Essay
Irish independence has been fought for a long time ever since the British occupied Ireland in
1172. The King of England invaded and controlled Ireland. The invasion led to religious and
territorial conflicts. There was an effort to create a church comparable to the Church of England in
the 1500s. Catholics who live in Irelandwere against the idea and a conflict for independence has
emerged (Arena Arrigo, 2004). The suppression of Irish nationalism by the British in the 20th
century led to the creation of martyrs for the cause led by the Irish Republican Army (Combs, 2011).
The alleged origin of the Irish Republican Army could be traced back to the Easter Rising of
1916 (Alonso, 2001; Arena Arrigo, 2004; Filardo Llamas, 2013; Hart, 1997; Page Smith, 2000).
Radical nationalists, who were part of a group called the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB), took
the opportunity to take up arms against the British during the war in Europe (Filardo Llamas,
2013). The Irish Republican Brotherhood was the precursor of the modern IRA. They were a
secret society who was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The campaign had ultimately led to the creation of the Act of Ireland of 1920. This created a
twenty six county Irish Free State and six counties in Northern Ireland (Filardo Llamas, 2013;
White, 1989). This act also allowed Northern Ireland to choose whether or not to stay with Britain
or become part of the Free State. Northern Ireland ultimately decided to stay with the United
Kingdom and Northern Ireland created its own parliament in Stormont in Belfast (Bosi, 2012;
Filardo Llamas, 2013). The Free State was mostly inhabited by Catholics while Northern Ireland
was populated mostly by Protestants (White, 1989). But the road to have a Free State did come at
a price. Over 7,500 people lost their lives or were wounded between 1917 and 1923. Many lost their

Rising Us Unemployment and the Canadian Dollar
Is there a relationship between rising US unemployment and the rise of the Canadian dollar?
Canada s financial stability depends on the health of America s economy, as international trade
accounts for 45% of Canada s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 79% of exports are to the United
States. Canadian and American unemployment rates are positively correlated for that reason, as
exemplified in early 2009. Canada s unemployment rate quickly steepened as the United States rate
gradually increased to about 10% (refer to graph 1 and 2). During this time, Canada s growing
trade surplus became a deficit in only a few months (refer to graph 3). From this data, one can
determine that Canada s exports decreased rapidly due to rising economic ... Show more content on

If consumer spending and exports decrease, Canada s economy can decline simultaneously with
the American economy. As mentioned above, international trade accounts for 45% of Canada s
GDP. On April 1, 2011, the loonie hit a three year high after U.S. employment increased and the
jobless rate decreased. The dollar increase from a decrease in U.S. unemployment exemplifies
America and Canada s trading partnership and coinciding economies.
The strength of the U.S. economy is important for Canada s trade, economy and exchange rate.
Increasing U.S. unemployment can positively or negatively influence the value of the loonie.
Canada s dollar can increase due to demand from buyers looking to invest in a stable economy
with low risk. On the other hand, Canada s GDP is dependent on U.S. trade. If less Americans are
purchasing goods in Canada due to increased unemployment, the Canadian dollar will fall.
Therefore, it is inconclusive that unemployment rates solely influence the rise of the Canadian
dollar. There are many other factors that influence the exchange rate, such as commodity prices,
investor confidence, overvalued currency and inflation rates.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this experiment was to determine if soft drinks manufactured by Coca Cola use
phosphoric acid in their product formula. An analysis of their product concentrations of HCl and
H3PO4 was performed using the potentiometric titration method, with a standardized 0.1002 M
NaOH solution. The molarities of HCl and H3PO4 were determined by plotting the titration
data, the first derivative, and the second derivative of this data. The results of our analysis of the
three trials found the molarities of HCl to be 0.1232 M, 0.1232 M, and 0.1230 M, with a mean
of 0.1231 M and an average deviation of 0.8 parts per thousand. We are 95% confident that for
this set of data, the true mean lies within the range of 0.1228 and 0.1234 M. The molarities of
H3PO4 were found to be 0.1709 M, 0.1706 M, and 0.1702 M, with a mean of 0.1706 M and an
average deviation of 1 part per thousand. We are 95% confident that for this set of data, the true
mean lies within the range of 0.1698 and 0.1714 M. These values compare well to literature values

Analysis Of Faith And Doubt At Ground Zero
In the documentary Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero, a number of people were interviewed about
how their religious beliefs or non beliefs, were challenged since the events of September 11th. The
interviews with priests, rabbis, family members of victims, survivors, lay people, atheists and
agnostics, this documentary explores how Americans spiritual lives may have changed since the
event. When a tragic event happens, people would either grow closerto god or outgrow god. To
those people who do not believe in a god, these actions will just prove their beliefs. In the beginning
of the film, people immediately started to questionGod. Some of them started to question why
would a god so mighty approve this kind of actions. Dr. Michael Brescia, who is a physician who
saw pictures of people jumping off the building, I wonder how many of them thought if there
was a God. And if there was a God, why me? Why this? And where am I going to go? This kind
of questions always come up when something catastrophic happens. Others, however, did not ask
any questions and just accepted what has happened. Kim Coleman, who lost her daughter said,
God knows something I don t, God knows best and knows better than we do. There were also a
couple of people who were not so sure what to think of god anymore. Rev. Joseph Griesedieck, a
priest who volunteered at Ground Zero said, the face of God was a blank slate for me. God couldn

Analysis Of A Lock Of Hair And A Wounded Heart
A Lock of Hair and a Wounded Heart Throughout the course of history and its literature, authors
and poets have served as messengers for the times in which they lived, whether it be about political
upheaval or social constructs or the lives of the common man. One way this was accomplished was
through satire. Alexander Pope, whom of which lived in the literary Restoration period and wrote
the poem, The Rape of the Lock, in 1714, provides a work as an excellent example of satire. He
parodies the upper classes favorite literature (epic, heroic poetry) to mock the absurdity and
irrationality of the upper class. Using the common tropes of divine intervention, hyperbole, and
lofty language, a gleefully sarcastic tone emerges to allow the reader to see through the faux
seriousness regarding the loss of a strand of hairfrom a noble woman. In numerous works of epic
poetry and that of the classic style, an invocation to divine spirits and gods invited a sense of
vindication and importance in a work. Works like Homer s long beloved Odyssey among others
almost completely rely on divine intervention to effectuate the plot and justify actions of either the
protagonist or the antagonist. Pope crafitly uses this common tactic in such works to parody the
highbrow love for them. In the case of Belinda, her beauty is such to rival nymphs and Aphrodite;
she is incontestably divine in human form, made of love and youth and flowering nature. That
beauty, however, is soiled when a lock from

Exodus 20 Research Paper
Christians live their life by the word of God. They take the Bible and the contents within and hold
the contents as the guidelines by which they live their lives. The Bible, in Exodus 20, gives
Christians the Ten Commandments. Christians take the Ten Commandments and make those the
foundation by which they live their lives. The verses within Exodus 20 give Christians commands
on how to live their lives but, Exodus 20 is not the only chapter in the Biblethat gives Christians
commands that they must follow. Later in the Bible, in Leviticus 20:27, the Bible says, A man or
woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death (Holy Bible). What this verse
is saying is that anyone involved in magic must be put to death. But does that truly mean anyone?
The story of Harry Potter is centered around magic which naturally fuels Christian opposition
towards it, but underneath the magic the story shares similar morals and guidelines that Christians
align themselves with. This verse among others has been the driving force of Christian... Show

What was Professor Dumbledore implying by this? Professor Dumbledore was passing on his
knowledge, to Harry, that maybe life does not end with death. This goes along with the theme of
some type of immortality within the series because of the talking portraits or ghosts. What does
the Bible have to say about this? Well in 1 John 2:17 it says, The world and its desires pass
away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever (Holy Bible). Obviously no one lives on
forever physically, so is this verse implying that there is life after death spiritually? Christians
would say yes to that question. So the theme of spiritual immortality in the Harry Potter series isn t
too far fetched then is it? The answer is no. There is not even a debate about

Amendments Of The 14th Amendment
During the period after the Civil War, in the Reconstruction era, the United States adopted three
amendments. These three amendments are the 13th, 14th, and 15th. In 1865, the ratification of the
13th amendment abolished slavery (Berlin). The 14th amendment protects privileges and
immunities from abridgement, assures due process of law prior to deprivations of life, liberty, or
property, and prohibits denials of equal protection of the laws (Steiker). The 15th amendment
granted African American men the right to vote. All three of these amendments, known as the Civil
Rights amendments, gave rights and ensured equality to recently emancipated slaves. The law
granted rights to African Americans and protected them from explicitly race based capital codes
(Steiker). African Americans, although had more rights at this point, were still treated with extreme
racial hostility, especially in the Southern states. The law was complicit, as it still allowed for
discriminatory behavior. In The American Death Penalty and the (In)Visibility of Race, Carol
Steiker writes, Race continued to influence the application of facially neutral capital statutes
through prosecutorial discretion, all white sentencing juries, and the practice of extrajudicial
execution by lynch mobs. What this means is that laws were being created in ways that African
Americans would still not receive equal treatment. In certain circumstances law enforcement
officers even handed over blacks to lynch mobs.

Electronic Commerce And E Commerce
Electronic Commerce
Electronic Commerce Defined Salvatore (2013) defines electronic commerce or e commerce
stating, E commerce refers to the production, advertising, sale, and distribution of products and
services from business to business and from business to consumer through the internet (p. 150).
These activities can take place in many environments between businesses and consumers. E
commerce has changed the way goods and services are exchanged and have given light to
businesses and consumers to exist on a global scale without an established brand. With e commerce
defined, let us look at its origin.
E Commerce Origin
E commerce has origins that trace back to the mid 1900s. In these times very few organizations
had access to the very expensive electronic data interchange (History of E Commerce, n.d.). E
commerce is now being used in all types of business, including manufacturing companies, retail
stores, and service firms. E commerce has made business processes more reliable and efficient.
Consequently, e commerce is now essential for businesses to be able to compete in the global
marketplace. E commerce is now being used in all types of business, including manufacturing

Pan s Labyrinth Themes
Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane A child s imagination is the most powerful weapon he or she can
be armed with and it is within Guillermo Del Toro s captivating and Academy Award winning
film, Pan s Labyrinth that we are presented with this concept as well as themes of existentialism
and duality. Various motifs such as; brutality, innocence, childhood and war, allow Del Toro to
construct two worlds that are all too real and very similar for one young girl. Set in Spain 1944
during a time when people are forced to choose between their beliefs and their survival, Ofelia
(Ivana Baquero) is compelled to choose her faith in fantasies over her hope in humanity. Ofelia is
in a battle of good vs. evil vs. innocence and must realize that all three cannot thrive. The opening

when temptation presents itself in a beautiful form. Ofelia s good nature and pure heart would
be revealed in this moment and this was something del Toro wanted to exemplify. Ending a film
with a child dying is disturbing however; del Toro chooses to make her death about redemption
since she regained her innocence through death (i.e. rebirth). Ofelia would be born again and
assume her role as Princess of the fantasy realm she desperately desired to be apart of. The final

Meaning Of Words In Adah s A Silent Vow
Has a speech ever been presented that was very meaningful, but was also short and cut straight to
the point? The proverb words should be weighed, not counted perfectly shows that. When someone
is giving advice, a person doesn t just sit there and count the amount of words that are being said;
they pay attention to the message and grasp the concept. This proverb originates from a Yiddish
(Jewish) author. It s understandable why he would say something like this because his ancestors
went through the Holocaust. They tried explaining how they felt, but no one (especially Hitler)
listened to them which caused them to forcefully adapt. Another example, FBLA has planned a

Adah s poem is very revealing. Within the first few lines, the author wrote; But the silence of a
pen on a paper is a great sound (Adah). Although using pen and paper could be used to count the
words, what the person wrote down made a great sound . It shows that sometimes, people can t
just speak their mind; each thought needs to be written out, taking each word into deep
consideration. This poem shows that you don t have to speak literal words to get your point
across. Tony states, Here I have taken a silent vow and my pen spits liquid pellets on the faces of
retreating army (Adah). Without moving a single facial muscle, words that are written down can
mean the world to the right person. Fighting battles could be as easy as an arrangement of the
alphabet 26 simple letters. Tony s work enhances this proverb by taking a silent vow against
stereotypes. Worded better than anyone else could have, Adah says, Here where I am the
commander of the silent war and the pen my silent gun (Adah). As the author, commander, of this
work of literature; Adah controls the silent gun (pen). He battles the stereotype that one has to
openly speak without thinking about what they re saying. Contemplate all expressions; don t argue
blindly. A person shouldn t think on their feet . A Silent Vow elaborates on quality over quantity

Social Inequality In Ralph Ellison s Battle Royal
In Battle Royal before the large fight, the party is delighted with a stark nude dancer. Ellison
presents the woman in such a way that the reader feels sorry for her just as they do with the
narrator. She along with the narrator are both symbols of social inequality experienced before the
civil rights movement, where both are abused due to their social niche (the dancer as a woman, and
the narrator as an African American). This social inequality is brought forth in an exaggerative way
to show that both these things likely occurred in the period, and that they suffer through many other
such injustices throughout their normal lives. One of Battle Royal s main purposes was to provide
an insight into the pre Civil Rights era (which was the current time for Ellison) and exemplify the
human atrocities that occurred. The short story shows the ways in which the white... Show more

this terror felt by the woman being manhandled with the terror he is experiencing in leu of the

a more systematic reuse of knowledge will show substantial cost benefits immediately
But as well as reducing costs, effective knowledge management should also dramatically increase

Effective knowledge management, using more collective and systematic processes, will also reduce

Wealth of the United States nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; There is a problem in the United
States that is growing and is causing issues in our country, but not everybody knows about it.
The problem is the distribution of wealth in our society and the world as a whole, and how it is
getting worse. Some people would say that it is an inequality due to the needs of the society,
while others would say it is to the needs or individuals. This causes even more problems because
of there being more than one supposed reason for the issue at hand. The problem is that the
distribution of power is possibly starting to be lopsided, and for many reasons. There are two main
views of why this is happening, the functionalist perspective and the conflict... Show more content

This theory tells that poor people are poor because they do not work hard enough or even at all
and that if they work harder, they will be rewarded with more resources or money. It also says
that rich people have worked very hard to get where they are and it is not just because of their
desire to get what they have, they had to work also. This contributes to society due to the fact
that everyone is in a different class and this states that the classes are earned and not just given,
so it tells everyone that almost all positions are given do to merit and other factors that are

(Ouchi 1980; Dolan Garcia 2002) than by rules. Organizational culture may be defined as an
interdependent set of shared values and ways of behaving that are common to the organization
and tend to perpetuate themselves (Kotter Heskett 1992). Organizational culture has been
assumed to have important implications, not only for the individual s affective reactions to
organizational life, but also for the organizational performance (Kotter Heskett 1992; Harris
Mossholder 1996; Dwyer et al. 2000; Kemp Dwyer 2001; Dolan Garcia 2002; Tepeci Bartlett
2002). Chan et al. (2004) have suggested that organizational culture can be a valuable resource for
companies, especially for service industries. In spite of the obvious call for knowledge about
organizational culture and performance in the restaurant and hospitality industry, relatively little
research has been conducted so far. Studies to date have mainly been in depth case studies (e.g.
Dwyer et al. 2000; Kemp Dwyer 2001), which produce valuable insights but offer

Tsipursky Speech Fear
Reflection on Conquer Fear of Public Speaking through Emotional Intelligence While Gleb
Tsipursky produces some valuable tips on how one could conquer fear of public speaking, the
author does not show full evidence that proves her tips to truly be reliable. A couple times is
mentioned the phrase research shows, however that exact research is never disclosed to the
audience nor cited or mentioned later. The passage certainly gives some sound advice about how
to overcome glossophobia, as I have used techniques similar to these to overcome my own speech
fears, but because the author doesn t fully support her tips and reasonings behind each one, they
lose their credibility. In the passage discussing the benefits of positivity as a way to

Experiences In Night, By Elie Wiesel s Night
The more of the world a person sees, the more he/she realizes that it is not as perfect as he/she
thinks it is. When one matures, he/she gains knowledge and experiences that affect how he/she act
and think. Their perspective of the world changes either positively or negatively. Night, an
autobiographical memoir written by Elie Wiesel, tells of the horrors he faced as a child during the
Holocaust. The more the readers read about his experiences, the more they see how his
perspectives change throughout the novel. Emily Dickinson s poem We Grow Accustomed to the
Dark explains how one must conquer his/her fear in order to see more of the world. The way we
perceive things change as we gain more knowledge and experience of the world we live in.... Show

Dickinson writes, We grow accustomed to the Dark / When Light is put away / As when the
Neighbor holds the Lamp / To witness her Goodbye (Dickinson 1 4). The reader is given a
situation where one must perceive his/her fears as an obstacle to overcome in order to adapt to the
situation. Dickinson explains how the mind influences how people see things. Although the mind
gets used to the darkness , the mind also changes its way of interpreting other problems. Emily
Dickinson also writes, The Bravest grope a little / And sometimes hit a Tree Directly in the
Forehead / But as they learn to see (Dickinson 13 16). This stanza is explaining how the bravest
people perceive their fears as an obstacle to overcome in order to continue forward with their lives,
like adaptation. The bravest are those who choose to conquer their fears instead of letting their fears
consume them. Overall, the poem, We Grow Accustomed to the Dark , elaborates on how people
must adapt to change sufficiently both mentally and physically in order to overcome their

The Three Forms Of Democracy
Since ancient times, democracy is seen as the most viable solution when it comes to matters of
governance. Aristotle saw democracy as the pinnacle of the benevolent types of the government
forms that existed in his time. But what is it that makes democracy better than the others? To find
an answer to that question, one must first take a look at the opposition. One must understand what
the other types of governmenttypes lack that democracy has. There are many types of governance.
In this essay, three types of governmental forms, aside from democracy, have been chosen as a
comparison medium. Monarchy, Dictatorship and Theocratic governments. Monarchy is a type of
government in which sovereignty is held by ,in most cases, one individual until their death or
dethronement. There are many types of Monarchies, depending on how much power the person in
charge holds... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When in a political environment the election of different governments can lead to frequent changes
in the policies of the country, changing the political landscape of the country. For example frequent
changes of the extraterritorial policies can cripple the nations economy by making investments non
profitable for foreign and local investors and thus crippling the nations economy. This fact is
considered by some as to why a democracy is not the best kind of government for a developing
nation whose aim is the economic growth and elimination of poverty. In conclusion, while
Democracy is not the best kind of governmental system, depending on the specifics of each nation,
is sometimes better that what other types of government due to the fact that, when exercised
correctly and without outside influence or influence from persons or parties that operate in the
shadows, is a type of government that is, as mentioned above, by the people, for the people and
serves the common good better than the alternatives that existed and, in some countries, exist

Construction Safety Tips
This is why I feel there needs to be major changes in the way we educate the current and future
construction workers so that they can truly understand and make sure to make construction
safety one of there main focuses. One way of transforming the way construction safety is tough
to others is by creating an updated and effect online platform construction safety platform which
will educate employees in a very effective way. this online platform will not only go into detail in
regards to previous and new construction safety procedures, but it will also make sure that each
person who goes through the program comes out understanding all of the important construction
safety tips. The first unique feature that the program will include is mandatory pop quizzes.
These pop quizzes will come up throughout each safety chapter of the online program and will
test each individual with specific questions based of off each of the specific chapters they are
focusing on. Each chapter will have 20 pop quiz questions that will be asked throughout the
chapter. These questions will later be tallied up for a grade. It is mandatory that you score a b or
higher on each of the chapters total pop quiz questions. If you do not do this, then you will be
forced to have to go through the chapter again and be asked new questions. This process may
seem difficult, but it will truly educate each and every employee who follows the online program
since they will want to be focused and understand each of the

Gun Violence Effects On School Shootings
Gun violence is a crisis in the United States and it has now dominated national debate since the
school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland, Florida. A 19 year old killed 17
and injured 14 people at the school. The article, No, there haven t been 18 school shootings in
2018. That number is flat wrong, is by John Woodrow Cox and Steven Rich is published in the
Washington Post on February 15, 2018. According to the article, Everytown for GunSafety, a non
profit group, co founded by Michael Bloomberg, defines a school shooting as anytime a firearm
discharges a live round inside a school building or on a school campus or grounds. Yet the Gun
Violence Archive defines school shootings as those that take place during school

The Death Penalty Is Archaic and Immoral Essays
The death penalty is simply a modernized version of the Holy Bible s an eye for an eye, a tooth
for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot . Some argue that death is a necessary retribution
for murderous cases but is it effective morally? Revenge only glorifies violence, which is most
definitely not the message the world strives to display. The death penaltyis a negative form of
punishment and insinuates a harsh reflection of society economically, politically, and socially.
More than two thirds of the world s countries formally oppose the death penalty, yet only fifteen out
of the fifty United Statesalso object against the decree. What does this say about America? The
United States represents freedom yet braces an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dating back to the great words of Voltaire, It is better to risk saving a guilty person than to
condemn an innocent one. Over 130 people have been exculpated over false convictions since 1730
and the numbers are still growing. When those thirty five United States prove that they can weed
out the guilty from the innocent confidently and without fail, maybe then they shall obtain the
rationale behind such a serious sanction. Yet as it stands so clumsily today, there is no assurance
the death penalty emits for the future. The death penalty is discriminatory against social and
economical aspects of society. Studies show that starting in 1977, most of those placed on death row
are guilty of killing white victims, and that African Americans enumerate one third of those
executions. The most evident factor determining execution is the ethnicity of the victim, which is
extremely biased, even if racial hostility is still inextricable to civilization. Not only is the death
penalty prejudice, but it is also exceedingly unfair economically. It s horribly expensive to run
executions, and the money spent on them could be put into more useful areas of interest and even
help reduce rates of crime! Many inmates cannot afford their own attorney, which leaves them with
either no lawyer or poor representation in court to defend them selves. The government has the
authorization to ratify the death penalty in any location inside America, even in states

Essay on A Written Study of Edward Scissorhands
A Written Study of Edward Scissorhands
In the film Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton creates a suburban fantasy by explaining his
interpretation of what it is like to live in a suburb. The definition of suburb is living in the outskirts
of a town and having limited interests and narrow minded views.
Tim Burton creates suburbia and practically makes a parody of the suburb where the family live.
The women typify the definition of a suburban housewife; they stay at home, clean and cook. They
are always on each others doorsteps trying to get the latest gossip and they always know what
everyone is up too. Tim Burton mixes this with his imagination making it a suburban fantasy. He
does this by creating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michael Keaton plays Beetlejuice and Batman but is also in other Tim Burton Films. Winona Ryder
plays Kim in Edward Scissorhands and the little girl in Beetlejuice she has also played different
parts in other Tim Burton films one of them was Mars Attacks. Tim Burton uses the same actors
because he has worked with them before and knows if they can do it he also knows that he could
rely on them.
In Edward Scissorhands there is a typical stereotype castle where Edward was created, in contrast
with the house in Beetlejuice where the couple that lived there died and now haunt it, so it s the
same idea and I think that Tim Burton Is trying to say to the audience that these big houses are
haunted and things do lurk around in the night. Why he has the same idea twice could be
because he wants to get his point across in different ways so that people will see his views and
take notice of them I think he is trying to influence the audience. Another similarity was that
when Edward is brought down from his home he has to learn to socialise compared to Beetlejuice
when the couple die they have to learn the rules of the dead, so again the idea is the same. In both
films Tim Burton creates black humour by making a joke of Edwards struggle to get along in the
community and the fact that a couple have died and now they

Diversity And Diversity In Education
Problem Statement and Importance
Diversity and inclusion within STEM has become a challenge for institutions of higher education
and industry employers. Issues with recruitment and retention of underrepresented minorities are
illustrated in workforce hiring and enrollment in higher education institutions. In particular,
Colleges of Agriculture and related industries have shown to lag behind other fields in metrics
related to diversity, equality, and inclusion. For example, in Purdue University s College of
Agriculture of the 2,736 students currently enrolled only 193 students were underrepresented
minorities. This is alarming as the national demographics illustrate a shift in population proportions

jurisprudence (Decuir Dixon, 2004). Recognizing the application of CRT in other disciplines, it
began to expand to education, women s studies and sociology to address racial inequities. For the
purposes of education in this study, CRT provides an application of critical theorythat provides a
social justice paradigm to address educational outcomes (Ladson Billings Donnor, 2005). Paulo
Freire argued that dialogue between those who perpetuate the social inequalities (oppressors) and
those who are the result of those inequalities is needed. Freire also insist that both groups become
victims of social inequality because oppressors often lose their humanity when they oppress. A key
concept within CRT is understanding and identifying the dominant hegemony. Hegemony can be
defined as the dominant thoughts, values and actions of a group and can written and unwritten
rules, which govern the actions and norms of the whole group (Martin Kitchel 2015). The
utilization of CRT or critical theory for educational practices created critical pedagogy that
involves everyone in academic programs to ensure that social justice can help alleviate the
inequalities of society (Yosso et al.,

Separatist Movement of Quebec Canada
Quebec Separatist Movement
The Canadian confederation brought promise and opportunity to a newly independent nation, this
nation consisted of Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Quebec. As the only province in
Canada with a French speaking minority Quebec faced discrimination and anguish. Its individuals
often felt forced to assimilate to English culture causing conflict between the English and French
communities. Throughout Canadian history it has been difficult for Quebec to attain the treatment it
deserved. It is a result of this treatment that Quebec has previously attempted two referendums for
separation. Quebec should not separate from Canada. Quebec, despite being one of the founding
provinces wants independence from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quebec continued this pursuit for special treatment at the Charlotte Town accord and Meech Lake
accord but neither was successful. In 1995 Quebec held another referendum to separate; failing with
no majority.
A noteworthy reasoning why Quebec wants to separate from Canada is the abundance of natural
resources and hydro energy. If Quebec were to separate, then they would be able to sustain
themselves economically. It would be difficult severing all economic ties with Canada, including
the dollar; however with time and the large work force that Quebec has it would not take long for
them to create revenue. Maintaining the Canadian currency would be ideal for Quebec although
without it, Quebec though it would be difficult is capable of self sufficiency.
It is understandable that Quebec has had difficult past within Canada and although the idea of
separation may sound pleasing, there is the issue of whether it is even possible. As part of Canada,
Quebec is subject to the constitution despite not signing it; which means Quebec must abide to all
the regulations of the constitution in order to separate. Currently the constitution does not allow for
Quebec to have the legal right to separate. In order for that to

Drew Bell Argumentative Essay
It was just a casual, beautiful day in New York. Nothing was out of the ordinary that day, that
was until a man who was oddly lurking around. Drew Bell, which is a police officer who
watches over New York, was on duty that day. She didn t think much of it at first but she still
kept a close eye on him. She then noticed he started to look around to see if anyone was watching
him, he didn t notice Drew so he continued on his way. She then just put it into conclusion that
maybe he was just a homeless man looking for shelter, or food. So she then goes back to her
duty. But little did she know he was nothing like that all, and that he would be the person to
destroy New York. She then went back to the police station and received many phone calls from
concerned citizens saying that there was a sketchy man walking around the same buildings
over, and over again. Drew then asked them to describe the man and all of them lead up to the
man she saw before. Wearing all red, bald, had no facial hair, and wore really light sunglasses that
if you looked at him you could see through them, he looked like around his 30 s. Everyone who
called in about him have said I ve lived here my whole life and I know just about everyone here,

that he was in. She gasped as he started lighting them and throwing them at buildings, on the
sidewalk, and at people. The fuse was very short so people did not have much time to react to
what was going on. Drew started to call back up and started to drive away because the man was

The Impact Of Neuropsychology On The Christian Faith
The Christian faith is pluralistic, meaning, There [are] as many ways to love God as there [are]
Christian souls (Salzman, 2000, p.77). This reaches greater complexity when considering the
impact of neuropsychology on the Christian faith. People experience God in a plethora of ways,
but what about seemingly brain induced experiences? Salzman (2000) describes the journey of
Sister John, a nun at the Carmelite convent in Los Angeles. She experiences headaches that
develop into deep spiritual episodes, which her doctor later informs her, are the symptoms of her
recurring seizures. Sister John has temporal lobe epilepsy and her doctor explains that it, tend[s]
to be more psychological (Salzman, 2000, p.68). Sister John s spiritual episodes were presumably
caused by her medical condition. So, were all of her spiritual encounters with Goda lie? Was her
faith a fabrication? The implication of these questions can be quite troubling for the Christian
faith. Is God simply a manifestation created within our minds? Objects exist because they exist
within the realm of our senses. If we cannot trust our senses, then what truly exists outside of
ourselves? Sister John describes a memory of her being drawn into service at the convent. She
attended an early morning mass on Christmas Day when something odd happened. If one looks
closely, she describes experiences of depersonalization, Instead of feeling trapped in a theater
showing a bad movie, she saw herself as the projector

  • 2. Virtual Study Hall Every end of marking period and progress check some students rush to complete all their work on time. They may have loads of lessons due and are rushing to complete them. Sometimes there are virtual study hall days on the ends of marking periods or progress checks though, and those let students work on past assignments without having to work on new lessons. The thing is, they don t have them every end of marking period or progress check. One thing I think that would make progress checks and marking periods less stressful would be to have virtual study halls every end of marking period/progress check, so let s look at some ways a study hall would be beneficial to students and teachers alike! So first of all, teachers would have a better day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the time marking periods and progress checks are very stressful. But if there was a virtual study hall day at the end of every marking period/progress check, it would make things a lot easier for the students. Students would only have to work on past assignments and would also want to work harder so they can have the day off. Who knows, maybe they would even want to work ahead on lessons, too. Finally, students would be able to complete all their work on time. It would allow students with lessons that have piled up over time to be able to get them done. It would also mean less assignments due. In the end it,would probably just amount to more students getting assignments finished before the due date. Because of this study hall days would most likely help lots of students. On the other hand, teachers have to post a certain amount of lessons each year. In order to combat this problem, the school would just subtract off certain days from breaks. Or maybe they would have a few more days of school before summer break. Also,it could just mean having more lessons posted on other days. Either way, the teachers would be able to post the required number of lessons, and students would have the needed time before important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Particularly focusing on political and propaganda posters of the Soviet Union it is evident they were influenced by avant garde movements that were developing in neighboring and western countries during the same period. Suprematism, focusing on basic geometric shapes with a limited range of colours is evident in numerous propaganda posters in Russiaat the beginning of the twentieth century. Constructivism, developing from Russian Futurism is aimed to create works that would make the viewer an active viewer. Futurism also influences the posters in a way that allows them to illustrate futuristic and abstract things as well as many posters containing qualities of cubism. Being influenced by these movements it gave the Russian government a way to show they weren t old fashioned and were able to keep updated with the developing countries around them. Futurism is the most important Italian avant garde movements of the twentieth century. Celebrating the advanced technology and urban modernity the world was quickly developing, futurism aimed to demonstrate the beauty of the machine, speed, violence and change. Several countries have given up their nuclear arms in hopes of promoting worldwide peace. Activist groups affiliated with Abolition 2050 are working to make a nuclear free world. Their success or failure hinges on the involvement of today s youth. First, young people can aid Abolition 2050 s cause by forming peace clubs on school campuses. • 7. Differences Between Nationalism And Imperialism Kayla Melo J. Cormier CPW 4U1 Wednesday, October 29, 2014 Nationalism and Imperialism Whether it s nationalism and/or imperialism we are affected by these angles all through out our lifetime, there are benefits to both nationalism and imperialism such that each can favorably support their nations respectively. These two features can be very powerful forces that can bring a nation together in its greatest time of need but may be able to subjugate another nation. By definition, nationalism is a patriotic feeling; an extreme case of nationalism is when a person and/or country feel a strong sensation of dominance over one or more countries. In contrast imperialism can be defined as a strategy that encompasses another countries authority and influence amongst mediation or by using military obligation. Nationalism and imperialism both benefit society through their social, political and technological aspects. The social traits pertaining to nationalism result in a nations unity usually formed through a significant event or in extreme cases of patriotism. Similarly, imperialism is moreover affected by social attributes that may not be one specific event, but occurred over a longer period of time. Nationalism creates a united front that in time produces a well governed nation For example the United States of America is a nation that goes to extreme levels of promoting patriotism. • 8. World War Part 2 Summary In Part II, Glover discusses the tragic effects of war on the average person s morality. This is done through morally distancing oneself from what events that are considered horrific or tragic. As soldiers and armies slowly distance themselves from close range combat with long range strikes such as missiles and drones, there is more acceptance of what is normally considered impermissible. Glover concludes that the weight of war on the human moral identity breaks it down. It enforces a civilian to go against one the biggest tenants of civilian life which is to do not harm and not kill. By requiring soldiers to kill other humans, they require a dehumanization of soldiers in order to make them more effective as well as skewing their moral compass. Glover shows that events such as Mai Lai and soldiers abusing civilians doesn t stem from a trait, but from the erosion of human morality as conflicting traumatic events force the individual to change their own code. Current literature supports Glover s theory in terms of the damaging effect of war on the human psychology. It has progressed to the point where soldiers experience flashbacks or PTSD from how horrifying the experience was. The effects of war on the individual is well documented and Glover pulls primary source ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Devry Consumer Behavior Week 7 Case Study: Giving and Receiving on Freecycle.org Freecycle.org or as nicknamed by users, Freebay is a great way for individuals to give away items that they no longer want. It is very apparent that this website has achieved such high levels of success and growth in such a short period of time, due to the fact that they are different from all other sites. Everyone has become accustomed to a world where nothing is free. Human beings are used to to having to pay for anything they receive. Most people are even leery of the fact of receiving something for free. The common question behind something being given away for free is what s the catch? The same is true for websites. This site provides shoppers another means for purchasing items, without spending money. Therefore, by providing another means for people to receive products, their purchasing habits may change. Other businesses and websites such as eBay, could possibly benefit from the freecycling business. Many Americans are actually in full support of going green , but not everyone does it; presumably because they either don t think about it or because there aren t enough businesses supporting it. This is especially true when it comes to making purchases. As previously stated, consumers are accustomed to having to spend money to receive items in return. So, the concept of giving things away and receiving things for free do not necessarily resonate easily, without reminders. Furthermore, consumers may not realize just how wasteful they really are and how they could actually help save the society by giving things away, instead of throwing them in the trash. In 2010, AOL News provided an article called, Many Americans Believe in Going Green; Fewer Actually Do It . • 11. The Criticism Of Totalitarianism Totalitarianism is a political system in which the state recognizes no limits to its authority and strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever it can be done. A distinctive feature of totalitarian governments is an elaborate ideology, a set of ideas that gives meaning and direction to the society . The concept was first developed in the 1920s by the Weimar German jurist, and later Nazi academic, Carl Schmitt, and Italian fascists. Schmitt used the term, Totalstaat, in his influential work on the legal basis of an all powerful state, The Concept of the Political (1927). The concept became prominent in Western political discourse as a concept that highlights similarities between Fascist states and the Soviet Union. The notion of totalitarianism as a total political power by the state was formulated in 1923 by Giovanni Amendola, who described Italian Fascism as a system fundamentally different from conventional dictatorships. The term was later assigned a positive meaning in the writings of Giovanni Gentile, Italy s most prominent philosopher and leading theorist of fascism. He used the term totalitario to refer to the structure and goals of the new state, which were to give the total representation of the nation and total guidance of national goals. He described totalitarianism as a society in which the ideology of the state had influence, if not power, over most of its citizens. • 13. Analysis Of David K. Shipler s The Working Poor The novel, The Working Poor by David K. Shipler gives us an inside look into the lives of the lower class and he explores exactly what it means to do hard, exhausting but honest work in America. The working poor are working people whose incomes fall below the poverty line. While poverty is often associated with joblessness, a significant proportion of the poor are actually employed. Shipler teaches us that just because you have finally become employed does not mean that most or all of your worries are over, often times they are increased. Largely because they are earning such low wages, the working poor face numerous obstacles that make it difficult for many of them to find and keep a job, save up money, and maintain a sense of self worth. Shipler did an amazing job bringing light to the forgotten America . Shipler used different methods, interviews, participant observation, existing sources and outcomes to display the lives of the invisible society. The interviews that Shipler conducted took him to different locations around the country. Shipler journeys deeply into the lives of individual store clerks, factory workers, farm laborers, sweat shop seamstresses, illegal immigrants in low jobs and Americans with tremendous student loans and poor wages. He interviews people that work voluntary part time, involuntary part time, usual full time and people that did not work the year. All in all, the archetype of a scapegoat is imperative in literature and the world, and continues to impact our society everyday. The archetype of a scapegoat is represented by Pearl Prynne in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter. In the novel, the townspeople view Pearl as a personification of Hester Prynne s sin, and they do not treat her fairly because they only see her as the result of a horrible crime. And although Hester doesn t see Pearl in this light for the most part, there is a time in which her view on her daughter changes. The village blames Pearl because they need to find someone to blame it on, which illustrates the role of a scapegoat in a novel. A scapegoat is an innocent character in which a problem is blamed on. In this case, the puritans put responsibility on Pearl because they can not blame Hester anymore. She is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This includes, but is not limited to: home, business, warehouse, garage, tool shed, dog house, etc. Burglary occurs when anyone enters a structure with criminal intent and without the owner s consent. It bears mentioning that the above represent two elements , and both of these elements are necessary for one to be charged with burglary. As with any other charge in the American criminal justice system, in lieu of the defendant s admission of guilt, the prosecutor must prove his or her case beyond a reasonable doubt. Yet when combined with an audience, the work became doubly fulfilling. In some ways, it boosted her self esteem and drove her to become the best version of herself. She noticed that when her daily life was made transparent, her words and actions became happier, more altruistic, and more intellectually interesting. She had been told that this would be a positive effect of going transparent, but she had not anticipated other changes. She had not anticipated that being transparent would actually redirect some of her less than perfect habits. The camera s influence caused her to think more carefully about the way she presented herself. When she thoughtof her viewers seeing her choices, she felt pressured to make healthy choices. Thus, she abstained from sugary foods, and consumed socially acceptable levels of alcohol. When she thought of the camera catching her consuming aspirin, she was ashamed of the image that this might project and rerouted her behavior. Thus, she entered a life where she abstained from the parts of her life that she found imperfect. Being watched was a way to curb bad behavior. • 22. Irish Republican Army Essay Irish independence has been fought for a long time ever since the British occupied Ireland in 1172. The King of England invaded and controlled Ireland. The invasion led to religious and territorial conflicts. There was an effort to create a church comparable to the Church of England in the 1500s. Catholics who live in Irelandwere against the idea and a conflict for independence has emerged (Arena Arrigo, 2004). The suppression of Irish nationalism by the British in the 20th century led to the creation of martyrs for the cause led by the Irish Republican Army (Combs, 2011). The alleged origin of the Irish Republican Army could be traced back to the Easter Rising of 1916 (Alonso, 2001; Arena Arrigo, 2004; Filardo Llamas, 2013; Hart, 1997; Page Smith, 2000). Radical nationalists, who were part of a group called the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB), took the opportunity to take up arms against the British during the war in Europe (Filardo Llamas, 2013). Canadian and American unemployment rates are positively correlated for that reason, as exemplified in early 2009. If consumer spending and exports decrease, Canada s economy can decline simultaneously with the American economy. As mentioned above, international trade accounts for 45% of Canada s GDP. On April 1, 2011, the loonie hit a three year high after U.S. employment increased and the jobless rate decreased. The dollar increase from a decrease in U.S. unemployment exemplifies America and Canada s trading partnership and coinciding economies. The strength of the U.S. economy is important for Canada s trade, economy and exchange rate. Increasing U.S. unemployment can positively or negatively influence the value of the loonie. Canada s dollar can increase due to demand from buyers looking to invest in a stable economy with low risk. On the other hand, Canada s GDP is dependent on U.S. trade. If less Americans are purchasing goods in Canada due to increased unemployment, the Canadian dollar will fall. Therefore, it is inconclusive that unemployment rates solely influence the rise of the Canadian dollar. • 27. Analysis Of A Lock Of Hair And A Wounded Heart A Lock of Hair and a Wounded Heart Throughout the course of history and its literature, authors and poets have served as messengers for the times in which they lived, whether it be about political upheaval or social constructs or the lives of the common man. One way this was accomplished was through satire. Alexander Pope, whom of which lived in the literary Restoration period and wrote the poem, The Rape of the Lock, in 1714, provides a work as an excellent example of satire. He parodies the upper classes favorite literature (epic, heroic poetry) to mock the absurdity and irrationality of the upper class. Using the common tropes of divine intervention, hyperbole, and lofty language, a gleefully sarcastic tone emerges to allow the reader to see through the faux seriousness regarding the loss of a strand of hairfrom a noble woman. In numerous works of epic poetry and that of the classic style, an invocation to divine spirits and gods invited a sense of vindication and importance in a work. Works like Homer s long beloved Odyssey among others almost completely rely on divine intervention to effectuate the plot and justify actions of either the protagonist or the antagonist. Pope crafitly uses this common tactic in such works to parody the highbrow love for them. In the case of Belinda, her beauty is such to rival nymphs and Aphrodite; she is incontestably divine in human form, made of love and youth and flowering nature. That beauty, however, is soiled when a lock from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These three amendments are the 13th, 14th, and 15th. In 1865, the ratification of the 13th amendment abolished slavery (Berlin). The 14th amendment protects privileges and immunities from abridgement, assures due process of law prior to deprivations of life, liberty, or property, and prohibits denials of equal protection of the laws (Steiker). The 15th amendment granted African American men the right to vote. All three of these amendments, known as the Civil Rights amendments, gave rights and ensured equality to recently emancipated slaves. The law granted rights to African Americans and protected them from explicitly race based capital codes (Steiker). African Americans, although had more rights at this point, were still treated with extreme racial hostility, especially in the Southern states. The law was complicit, as it still allowed for discriminatory behavior. In The American Death Penalty and the (In)Visibility of Race, Carol Steiker writes, Race continued to influence the application of facially neutral capital statutes through prosecutorial discretion, all white sentencing juries, and the practice of extrajudicial execution by lynch mobs. What this means is that laws were being created in ways that African Americans would still not receive equal treatment. In certain circumstances law enforcement officers even handed over blacks to lynch mobs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The narrator directly compares this terror felt by the woman being manhandled with the terror he is experiencing in leu of the fight and speech. These two extreme examples show how unfairly and disgracefully both woman and African Americans were seen at the time. Only a few generations from the abolishment of slavery, popular culture, especially in the south continued to look down upon these two groups as objects, in a sexual and racial ... They do not know what is already known, or they do not know where to access the knowledge. Continually reinventing the wheel is such a costly and inefficient activity, whereas a more systematic reuse of knowledge will show substantial cost benefits immediately But as well as reducing costs, effective knowledge management should also dramatically increase our speed of response as a direct result of better knowledge access and application. Effective knowledge management, using more collective and systematic processes, will also reduce our tendency to repeat the same mistakes . This is, again, extremely costly and inefficient. Effective knowledge management, therefore, can dramatically improve quality of products and/or services. Wealth of the United States Essay examples Wealth of the United States nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; There is a problem in the United States that is growing and is causing issues in our country, but not everybody knows about it. The problem is the distribution of wealth in our society and the world as a whole, and how it is getting worse. Some people would say that it is an inequality due to the needs of the society, while others would say it is to the needs or individuals. This causes even more problems because of there being more than one supposed reason for the issue at hand. The problem is that the distribution of power is possibly starting to be lopsided, and for many reasons. There are two main views of why this is happening, the functionalist perspective and the conflict... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This contributes to society due to the fact that everyone is in a different class and this states that the classes are earned and not just given, so it tells everyone that almost all positions are given do to merit and other factors that are earned. This theory is all based on a group of people in power making the other groups think that they are the best to be in power and create a false consciousness for the masses. The main group stays in power because they make all sorts of promises to the masses and deceive them at the same time. The group in power takes everything that they can from the people and tell them that this is due to another cause. In this case, individual behaviour is more regulated by individual competence, and individual and shared values (Ouchi 1980; Dolan Garcia 2002) than by rules. Organizational culture may be deп¬Ѓned as an interdependent set of shared values and ways of behaving that are common to the organization and tend to perpetuate themselves (Kotter Heskett 1992). • 41. The Three Forms Of Democracy Since ancient times, democracy is seen as the most viable solution when it comes to matters of governance. Aristotle saw democracy as the pinnacle of the benevolent types of the government forms that existed in his time. But what is it that makes democracy better than the others? To find an answer to that question, one must first take a look at the opposition. One must understand what the other types of governmenttypes lack that democracy has. There are many types of governance. In this essay, three types of governmental forms, aside from democracy, have been chosen as a comparison medium. Monarchy, Dictatorship and Theocratic governments. This fact is considered by some as to why a democracy is not the best kind of government for a developing nation whose aim is the economic growth and elimination of poverty. In conclusion, while Democracy is not the best kind of governmental system, depending on the specifics of each nation, is sometimes better that what other types of government due to the fact that, when exercised correctly and without outside influence or influence from persons or parties that operate in the shadows, is a type of government that is, as mentioned above, by the people, for the people and serves the common good better than the alternatives that existed and, in some countries, exist ... Over 130 people have been exculpated over false convictions since 1730 and the numbers are still growing. When those thirty five United States prove that they can weed out the guilty from the innocent confidently and without fail, maybe then they shall obtain the rationale behind such a serious sanction. Yet as it stands so clumsily today, there is no assurance the death penalty emits for the future. The death penalty is discriminatory against social and economical aspects of society. Studies show that starting in 1977, most of those placed on death row are guilty of killing white victims, and that African Americans enumerate one third of those executions. The most evident factor determining execution is the ethnicity of the victim, which is extremely biased, even if racial hostility is still inextricable to civilization. Not only is the death penalty prejudice, but it is also exceedingly unfair economically. It s horribly expensive to run executions, and the money spent on them could be put into more useful areas of interest and even help reduce rates of crime! Many inmates cannot afford their own attorney, which leaves them with either no lawyer or poor representation in court to defend them selves. The definition of suburb is living in the outskirts of a town and having limited interests and narrow minded views. Tim Burton creates suburbia and practically makes a parody of the suburb where the family live. The women typify the definition of a suburban housewife; they stay at home, clean and cook. In Edward Scissorhands there is a typical stereotype castle where Edward was created, in contrast with the house in Beetlejuice where the couple that lived there died and now haunt it, so it s the same idea and I think that Tim Burton Is trying to say to the audience that these big houses are haunted and things do lurk around in the night. Why he has the same idea twice could be because he wants to get his point across in different ways so that people will see his views and take notice of them I think he is trying to influence the audience. Another similarity was that when Edward is brought down from his home he has to learn to socialise compared to Beetlejuice when the couple die they have to learn the rules of the dead, so again the idea is the same. For the purposes of education in this study, CRT provides an application of critical theorythat provides a social justice paradigm to address educational outcomes (Ladson Billings Donnor, 2005). Paulo Freire argued that dialogue between those who perpetuate the social inequalities (oppressors) and those who are the result of those inequalities is needed. Freire also insist that both groups become victims of social inequality because oppressors often lose their humanity when they oppress. A key concept within CRT is understanding and identifying the dominant hegemony. Hegemony can be defined as the dominant thoughts, values and actions of a group and can written and unwritten rules, which govern the actions and norms of the whole group (Martin Kitchel 2015). Quebec continued this pursuit for special treatment at the Charlotte Town accord and Meech Lake accord but neither was successful. If Quebec were to separate, then they would be able to sustain themselves economically. It would be difficult severing all economic ties with Canada, including the dollar; however with time and the large work force that Quebec has it would not take long for them to create revenue. This reaches greater complexity when considering the impact of neuropsychology on the Christian faith. People experience God in a plethora of ways, but what about seemingly brain induced experiences? Salzman (2000) describes the journey of Sister John, a nun at the Carmelite convent in Los Angeles. She experiences headaches that develop into deep spiritual episodes, which her doctor later informs her, are the symptoms of her recurring seizures. Sister John has temporal lobe epilepsy and her doctor explains that it, tend[s] to be more psychological (Salzman, 2000, p.68). Sister John s spiritual episodes were presumably caused by her medical condition. So, were all of her spiritual encounters with Goda lie? Was her faith a fabrication? The implication of these questions can be quite troubling for the Christian faith. Is God simply a manifestation created within our minds? Objects exist because they exist within the realm of our senses. If we cannot trust our senses, then what truly exists outside of ourselves?
