Medieval Europe (Franks Feudalism and Chivalry)Tom Richey
This is the first part of my lecture series on the Middle Ages, beginning with the Fall of Rome and the establishment of the Frankish Kingdom in Western Europe. Although Charlemagne ruled a large empire at the turn of the 9th century, this did not last and Europe was held together by a collection of lord/vassal contracts that historians refer to as "feudalism." The lecture concludes with an analysis of the medieval warrior culture of chivalry.

During the Dutch Golden Age (17th c.), painters such as Rembrandt and Vermeer produced paintings in a variety of genres: historical painting, landscapes and cityscapes, portraits, genre (everyday life) painting, maritime scenes, and still lifes.
