Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests to make land available for other uses. Forests play an important role in the water and carbon cycles by absorbing and releasing water and carbon slowly over time. Removing forests disrupts these cycles. Deforestation reduces the number of trees that store carbon, allowing more carbon dioxide to remain in the atmosphere and contribute to climate change. It also destroys habitats for many living things. Common causes of deforestation include converting land to agriculture, uncontrolled fires, overharvesting of fuelwood, mining, and climate change itself.

Global warming is caused by greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane trapping heat in the atmosphere, causing the Earth's temperature to rise. As temperatures increase, the climate will change dramatically with some areas experiencing droughts and others severe flooding. Melting polar ice caps will also raise sea levels and threaten coastal cities. While higher CO2 levels may increase crop growth, the overall impacts of climate change are expected to be harmful. Both natural factors like the sun's intensity and human activities that release greenhouse gases contribute to global warming. Reducing emissions, waste, and deforestation can help mitigate the problem.
The document discusses empowering women and girls through achieving gender equality. It highlights five bold women driving change for women's human rights through initiatives like secret schools in Afghanistan and the first women's fund in Mexico. Women's human rights include the right to live free from violence, slavery, and discrimination, as well as rights to education, property ownership, voting, and equal wages. The goals of empowering women include providing equal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, as well as greater representation in political and economic decision making. Woman abuse and trafficking disproportionately impact women and girls worldwide. The document profiles Malala Yousafzai, who advocates for girls' education and survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban for her work

Clean water is essential for human life but millions die each year from water-related diseases due to lack of access to clean water and adequate sanitation. By 2050, 1 in 4 people may live in areas affected by water shortages. Water scarcity and poor water quality negatively impact health, livelihoods, and education for many families globally. The UN's goal is to secure sustainable water access for all, which can help promote human dignity and development through outcomes like improved health, reduced poverty and inequality, and environmental sustainability. Possible solutions include better education, technologies, policies, ecosystem management, and addressing pollution and population growth issues.

1. Mr. Birling is pleased about Sheila and Gerald's engagement because it will raise their social status. He gives a speech where he dismissively says that political issues and warnings of danger will pass and matters will improve.
2. During the engagement dinner, Mr. Birling brags about his future knighthood to try and ensure Gerald and Sheila's marriage for social climbing reasons. Lady Croft disapproved of the match between the families due to differences in class.
3. The Inspector interrogates the Birling family about their various interactions with a girl named Eva Smith who later died by suicide. Each family member bears some responsibility for her downward spiral.
Sheila knows something is wrong as tensions rise at the dinner. The Inspector repeatedly mentions that a girl died to make the audience remember her fate and feel guilty. As he questions Gerald and the Birling family, they begin to realize their own roles in the death of Eva Smith, leaving them distressed and shocked by what they learn about each other and themselves.
Contemporary literature reflects current trends and changes often as perspectives change. It questions historical facts and presents contradictory arguments. Post-World War II, literature changed rapidly as the world viewed things differently and struggled with ideas of meaninglessness and a godless world. Contemporary literature features a modern narrative but also a harsher reality, influenced by postwar prosperity yet rooted in devastation. It includes cynical, disillusioned views and focuses on believable, character-driven stories in modern settings.
The poem describes the narrator's experience of losing her mother at a young age. She comes home from school to see an ambulance taking her mother away, and never sees her buried. Over the years, the narrator creates an imagined life for her mother to cope with the loss. However, in the final stanza, the narrator realizes she is the "lost woman," still haunted by her mother's death. The poem explores the lasting effects of loss on a daughter's psyche.
The poem describes the cycle of life and rebirth found in nature. In the first stanza, the seed of life springs from stars, sun, leaves, and flowers whose sound is silence. In the second stanza, lilies and roses are released from the harmless graves in the air, earth, and bread that sustain us. In the third stanza, an interior holy tree outlives the world, spreading earthly shade into eternity. Overall, the poem conveys the eternal and cyclical nature of life through references to rebirth in nature.
