The document discusses security issues with machine learning systems and potential attacks and defenses. It notes that machine learning systems like spam filters and intrusion detection systems need to continuously retrain to learn what is trusted versus untrusted. It describes different types of attacks like influence attacks that aim to manipulate the learning system and integrity attacks that aim to mark intrusions as normal. It also discusses potential defenses like regularization, detection of attacks, and randomization to increase the attacker's effort. The overall theme is that machine learning security requires an evolutionary arms race between new attack techniques and defensive techniques.

It also describes the multi-armed bandit problem and the upper confidence bound algorithm for exploration-exploitation. Finally, it outlines how the UCT algorithm extends upper confidence bounds to tree search for move selection in Monte Carlo Go programs.
Motivated Machine Learning for Water Resource Managementbutest
The document discusses challenges in water resource management and the potential for embodied intelligence and motivated machine learning to help address these challenges. It proposes using a goal creation system in embodied intelligence to motivate a machine to learn how to efficiently interact with its environment. This approach could help integrate modeling and decision making to support sustainable water policies that consider various social, economic and environmental factors. The document outlines some key challenges in water management and argues that embodied intelligence trained with a goal creation mechanism may help overcome limitations of traditional machine learning models to better adapt to changing real-world environments.
Treatment of Effluent from Granite Cutting Plant by Using Natural Adsorbents ...IJERD Editor
Granite cutting plant is one such industry that releases polluting and turbid effluent. The residue from all these processes is discharged with water as an effluent. The effluent mainly contains many solids that harm the environment. Hence it requires treatment techniques before disposal. Several conventional methods are available for removal of contaminants like coagulation, adsorption, polyelectrolyte methods and biological methods. Most of them are cost prohibitive. The reduction of solids concentration in the effluent before disposal by using the techniques, coagulation followed by adsorption using natural adsorbents, like rice husk carbon and saw dust carbon, in contrast to the usage of activated carbon as it is costly. From a local Granite cutting plant near Anantapur, the effluent is collected and its physico-chemical characteristics are estimated and found to be pH(7.5), TS(4240mg/l), TSS(21560mg/l), TDS(12373mg/l).Effluent obtained is subjected to coagulation by potash alum followed by adsorption using saw dust carbon and rice husk carbon.

Improving Machine Learning Approaches to Coreference Resolutionbutest
The document presents research on improving machine learning approaches to coreference resolution. The researchers extend previous work by making modifications to the learning framework and expanding the feature set. Modifications to the learning framework, including best-first clustering, improved training set creation, and clustering methods, provided gains in precision and F1 score on standard coreference data sets. However, expanding the feature set from 12 to 53 features initially degraded performance, though selecting a subset of 22-26 features focused on common nouns improved precision. The best system achieved F1 scores of 70.4 and 63.4 on the two data sets, setting a new state-of-the-art.
The document describes the design of an upgraded dual-head LightGage Metrology System that can simultaneously measure both sides of a part and report thickness. Key aspects include using invar posts and vee pads to minimize thermal drift, pneumatic isolation for vibration stability, and Dyadic linear actuators integrated with TMS software for automated coarse motion and positioning of the dual sensor heads.
This document provides a summary of Christopher J. Pal's professional background and qualifications. It lists his education, including a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo in 2005. It details his appointments as a research scientist at UMass Amherst since 2005 and previous research internships at Microsoft and the University of Toronto. It also lists his publications, awards, and professional service activities in the field of computer science.
