Ecological Imperialism by Alfred W. Crosby
In the book Ecological Imperialism: The Biological expansion of Europe, 900 1900 the author, Alfred
W. Crosby, answers many questions about the history of European expansion. It is a well written and
thought out book with great analogies and detailed information that help the reader understand what
exactly Crosby is trying to say. He starts off his book by explaining what the Neo Europes are. They
are a population who settled in the temperate zones and are mainly European descents. The questions
he is attempting to explain is why there is a substantial mass of Europeans in these different lands
which were so far flung from Europe. The European emigrants have scattered among many lands in
the world, and have become the leading ethnic group in most regions outside of Europe. In addition,
Crosby reflects on how the Neo Europes were able to provide vast food excess. His most important
question though, is if European humans have triumphed because of their superiority in arms,
organization and fanaticism... or Perhaps the success of European imperialism has a biological, an
ecological, component. (p.7) Further in the book Crosby explains his questions to the readers. First
and foremost, the history of the stone age is important. The first humans created stepping stones to
create a different future that is today. Looking back in history there were massively giant creatures that
we couldnt even imagine roaming the earth today. Dating back to the stone age they succeeded

A View From A Bridge
Following the Second World War in 1945, America emerged from the conflict as a prestigious
superpower and saw the 1950s begin as an era of prosperity and wealth. However, the beginnings of
the Cold War saw increased tension between the USA and the USSR and the capitalist and communist
ideologies. These clashes along with the rise of nuclear power contributed to a tense and fearful
atmosphere, giving rise to a period of McCarthyism. This saw communist witch hunts and people
accused and prosecuted for sympathising with the left political economic model. Author Arthur Miller
was one of such victims; in 1956 he was trialled and fined for refusing to give the names of
communist sympathisers before the House Un American Activities Committee. ... Show more content

Immigration remains a popular political but also ethical topic. For one, we like to consider ourselves
progressive and moving towards a more multicultural world, yet we continue to cherry pick
immigrants with the right qualifications and skills and there is still talk of foreign born people taking
Australian jobs and being detrimental to the economy. The Syrian refugee crisis exposes further moral
and ethical issues linking to the play as even though Australia has granted 12,000 humanitarian places
since March 2017, we have done little to help the 5.1 million refugees escaping the civil war and
much controversy and division remains over the topic. The structure of A View From the Bridge is
linear in showing a progression of time. The exposition introduces the still relevant topics of cross
cultural conflicts, justice and the law as well as class through the construction of setting through
staging, dialogue and characterisation. Class is introduced through the setting, the Italian American
neighbourhood of Red Hook, in a worker s flat, clean, sparse and homely which conveys a working
class household. It is also communicated through the characterisation of Eddie achieved through
dialogue and costume. His dialogue is quite rough and casual, perhaps signifying lower levels of
education, for example Where you goin ? and Ain t . Eddie is then juxtaposed with the character of

St. Paul s Influence On Religion
The Catholic church throughout history has pushed to the boundaries of society. Not just stopping at
spreading the gospel around the world, but also educating, helping the less fortunate, and being a
blessing to everyone. One person who helped inspire all of this was St. Paul.
St. Paul was one of the most influential and important of all the saints. St. Paul was born in Tarsus in
A.D. 10 and died around A.D. 64. St. Paul, the Apostle, is often considered to be the second most
important person in the history of Christianity. St. Paul was originally known as Saul and was a
Roman citizen. He experienced a powerful vision that caused him to convert to Christianity and he
changed his name to Paul after he was baptized.

The letters that survived became part of the bible. Paul s writings are important because they provide
good advice for how christians should live their daily life. While preparing for a missionary trip to
Spain, he was imprisoned in Caesarea by the Jews for two years, but that didn t stop him. After he was
released, he traveled again and was imprisoned for another two years for preaching in Rome.
Paul traveled more and finally returned back to Rome. Paul was arrested in Rome for a second time
and this time he was beheaded under the Emperor Nero. Paul is one of the most famous, intelligent,
and influential, of the apostles. St. Paul is the patron saint of missionaries, evangelists, writers,
journalists, authors, public workers, rope and saddle makers, and tent makers. His feast day is on June
29 when he is honored with Saint Peter. He is also honored on many other days throughout the year.
St. Paul was important. He was intelligent. He was influential. Most importantly, he was faithful.
Despite all of his struggles, he still spread the word of God. Paul s good advice established the way for
all Christians to live. His conversion shows us the real power of God. Paul taught us that In a word ,
never let go on these three things: Faith, hope, and love. And know that the greatest of these will

Joan Of Arc Outline
Intro
Through actions, we have expressed our ideas and beliefs we wish to convey to other people. Many
people have changed the world just by expressing in what they believe in.From Leonidas and the old

75 years before Joan of Arc s story began, a war broke out, which would eventually be known as the
Hundred Years war,a series of battles between England and France that lasted from 1337 to 1453. This
was due to King Edward III believing he was the rightful heir to the French throne, and his mother,

Polital Environment in Bangladesh
Political Environment in Bangladesh and its Impact on International Trade Introduction The interface
between international trade obligations and domestic regulation of trade, health, safety and the
environment, special and differential treatment of developing countries dictates whether a country will
be able to gain from trade, commerce which contributes to development of a country. Since,
independence, the political environment of Bangladesh has been fragile due to its lack of proper
democratic practice, self fulfilling prophecy and decision making with inadequate knowledge of
international relations. Therefore, it is a dire need to know the impact of political foresight to gain

change in our political environment, we are not observing any positive signs yet. This is a major
disincentive for foreign investors. Most of the trade unions of the country have political ties with the

A Day At Home On The Kitchen Table
INTRODUCTION
I. How many of you have had a day where literally everything goes wrong? So much for the saying
could this day get any worse? right? Because right when you don t think that anything worse could
happen somehow it does. For example, you re getting ready for that big presentation on the mooring
of and spill your coffee all over your outfit? Then how about driving to school and getting pulled over
or getting a flat tire? Just to then realize when you get to school that all your information for your
presentation is sitting at home on the kitchen table. It is now 10:30 am and you re stressed out of your
mind.

BODY
I. According to the website article, Acute vs. Chronic Stress, there are two different kinds of stress that
we will potentially face in our lifetime
A. Short term (Chronic) 1.Short term stress is the most common type that we face and are the little
everyday things. This is experienced when specific events or situations that involve novelty,
unpredictability, a threat to the ego, and leave us with a poor sense of control. (Acute vs. Chronic
Stress, 1) B. Long term (Acute) 1. This is much more dangerous and serious. Some acute stresses stem
from traumatic, early childhood experiences that become internalized and remain forever painful and
present. This type of stress can cause wear and tear on your mind and body. Many scientists think that
our stress response system was not designed to be constantly activated... (Acute vs. Chronic Stress,1)
So how can this affect us as college students?
II. In the words of Lyle Miller and Alma Smith, authors of The Different Kinds of Stress, say that
stress can lead to different problems in our bodies.

Operational Level Command And Control Requires Both The
Operational level command and control requires both the effective execution of mission command and
integration of the joint functions. During Operation Husky, the Allies did not have a shared
understanding of the mission, did not have a clear understanding of commander s intent, and did not
exhibit mutual trust during the campaign. Disjointed Mission Command repeatedly prevented the
Allies from capitalizing on the Allies collective combat power.
While the Allied Naval forces came through with incredible logistical accomplishments in the joint
function of sustainment, the Allies poor execution of movement and maneuver ultimately allowed
Germany s withdraw from Sicily. Although the Allies failed to put forth a united effort, they ... Show

During the campaign, General Alexander s inability to grasp the significance of a German withdrawal
echoed the Allies lack of understanding at the Casablanca Conference. On the ground, neither LTG
Patton s 7th Army nor Montgomery s 8th Army understood that the true center of gravity for the
campaign lay in defeating the German forces and preventing their withdrawal. Instead, the 7th Army
and 8th Army sacked one town after another and got mired in various embattlements, which gave the
Germans enough time to withdraw to Italy in significant numbers. This strategic blunder was a direct
result of the lack of understanding. Commander s intent, the second key component of Mission
Command, provides subordinate commanders and units with a clear and concise expression of the
purpose of the operation and the desired military end state. Leaders who understand the commander s
intent can use that information to fill in any gaps in information as those commanders move their units
on the battlefield. In doing so, commanders can achieve battlefield synergy when faced with poor
communications from higher. The Casablanca Conference left U.S. service members, and their general
officers with an imperfect understanding of the ultimate purpose of Operation Husky. This lack of
clarity would ultimately have an adverse impact on the resolution of the campaign. England saw
Operation Husky as the first of several peripheral fights that would attack

Reflection Paper On Healthy Food
Healthy Food Community Outreach Project Reflection Paper
Our group the Kids Next Door was assigned to a Family Dollars Store in 901 Bridgewood Dr. Fort
Worth, TX 76112 to conduct Healthy Food Community Outreach survey. This Family Dollar Store
opens at 9:00 am and close at 10:00 pm Monday through Sunday. So, on October 19, 2017, Thursday
at 9:00 am, our group went to conduct the survey. We enjoyed conducting this survey and it was a
great opportunity to learn about healthy food in our Tarrant county. As working with a group on this
project, I have gained experiences in teamwork, communication, and exploration. Before we went to
conduct the survey, I was kind of afraid to go shopping there alone. I thought this neighborhood is
dangerous and was not safe for a girl to shopping there alone. However, after exploring the
neighborhood Family Dollar store, my negative thoughts of this neighborhood were completely
changed.
The location of this Family Dollar store is across from Dollar General and about half a mile from this
Family Dollar store, there is Albertson supermarket. I also noticed there was a city bus stop nearby
this Family Dollar store. I found this location as convenient for the residents and access to public
transportation is another factor that gives people transportation options to get to work and shopping.
There were plenty of parking spaces available for customers including accessible handicap parking
spaces in front of the store and near the store entrance. The store environment was clean, but I did not
notice whether the trash bin was placed in front of the store or not. I arrived there a little bit early
around 8:50 am and I saw a few customers walked in the store ten minutes earlier than store open
hour. It was kind of a surprise to see it because I did not expect the store would allow the customer to
walk into the store before the open hour.
Unfortunately, our group member Kayla could not join us for this survey. The rest our group members
met in the parking on the survey day. We brought the survey, but we forgot to bring a letter to show
the store manager. However, the store staffs were friendly, and they allowed us to perform the survey
without a permission letter. This Family Dollar store

Work Is Calculated As Force X Distance
Pg 377: Answer 1: Exerting a force does not imply that work is done. Work is calculated as Force x
Distance. Work is said to be done on an object when the force on the object causes the object to move
some distance. Ife the object does not move, no work is done immaterial of how much force is
exerted. There are many situations when force is exerted but work is not done. For example, if you
hold a piece of wood while helping in a project, effort is done to hold the wood in place, but since the
force doesn t cause the wood to move, work is not said to be done. The force has to be in the direction
of motion to require work to be done. Answer 2: The formula for calculating work is: Work (J) =
Force (N) x Distance (m) Thus, the amount of work done can be determined by multiplying Force
with Distance. Answer 3: Here two scenarios are given. a. Force of 2N moves an object 3 meters: Here
work is calculated as: W = F x D = 2N x 3m = 6 Nm (6 Joules) b. Force of 3N moves an object 2
meters: Here work is calculated as: W = F x D = 3N x 2m = 6 Nm (6 Joules) Thus, in both cases, the
work done is same, i.e. 6 Joules. Answer 4: Here, we need to move 5 large cans of paint from
basement to the second floor. Let us assume that the Force for lifting one can is 1N and the height of
one floor is 1m. Thus, the below two scenarios are taken as: a. When all the cans are lifted and taken
to second floor all at once, the calculation for work done is: W = 5N (5 cans each of 1N) x 2m (2
floors each

The Metabolic Rate Of An Organism
Abstract: Metabolism is used to refer to all of the chemical reactions involving energy transformations
in the cell of the body, for example cellular activity such as cellular respiration and its sub activtys like
glycolysis, Krebs Cycle and the Electron Transport Chain all produce energy in the form of ATP and a
byproduct of the energy production, heat is also produced . Although the cell is not 100% efficient
thermodynamically, the energy in the form of heat is lost in the cell each time when energy is
produced. Metabolic rates of an organism can be measured directly by the amount of heat lost from
the body in a certain period of time. Another way an organisms metabolic rate can be measured is
indirectly, by measuring the amount of oxygen that is consumed in a given period of time. In the
experiment conducted, we needed to find the metabolic rate of an ectotherm. Using a goldfish
(ectotherm) we calculated the metabolic rate by means of counting the number of operculum beats
when three different goldfish where submerged in various temperatures. What was found is that the
metabolic rate increased when the temperature increased and the metabolic rate decreased as
temperature dropped.
Introduction: Metabolism is a term in which defines all of the chemical reactions involving energy
production. Some of these chemical reactions involve cellular respiration by which is the series of
metabolic process by which living cells produce energy through the oxidation of organic

Online Gambling And Online Casino Gaming
Blog 25 Manage your way to online casino success
We ve all heard the stories, as many players have been brought to their knees by the world of
gambling. Online casino gaming can be notoriously cruel to some, especially those who don t play
with skill and common sense in mind. While there is no denying that there is risk involved in online
casino gaming, it must be said that if you fail to prepare then you really should be prepared to fail.
There is no other way around it; luck is only going to carry you for so long in the realm of online
casino gaming. You are simply going to need much more than that to your name if you wish to make
money when gambling online. One element that is often neglected is bankroll management, as few

Think of it as a cap, a cap that is enforced when your losses hit a certain level. While manually
enforced in most instances, it will stop you from suffering large losses more often than not.
Professional players understand the importance of playing strictly with dedicated funds and so should
you.
Something that continues to shock me to this day is the number of players who throw money into an
online casino that doesn t suit their playing approach. If you really want to manage your bankroll
effectively, you really should find an online casino that will give you the tools to do so. My advice is
simple when it comes to finding what you are looking for, look at an online casino portal. These
websites are the ultimate reference tool when it comes to finding online casinos that deliver big on
payment, withdrawal, and bankroll management tools. Plus, they also detail bonus and promotions
too, of which many can actually give your bankroll a little extra boost.
Finally in what may seem like an obvious piece of advice, walking away from the table when things
start turning sour is key to managing your bankroll effectively. It stuns me when I see a player throw
everything they have at a game in order to turn things around. This act is and always will be foolish
and seldom will any good ever come of it. There isn t a player on the planet that can boast a 100%
success record and you won t ever be able to do so

Why Teenagers Use The Mobile Phone While Driving Essay
Question 1 What are the reasons why teenagers use the mobile phone while driving? Introduction
Mobile phones play a significant part in people s life. It is more than a tool. This essay will firstly

mobile phones and driving. Finally, it will look at the reasons why teenagers use the mobile phone

of mobile phones, more and more people like to use mobile phones even get addicted to mobile
phones. They use mobile phones anywhere especially for the teenagers. It seems that mobile phones
become a basic necessity of life. Relations between mobile phones and driving Using mobile phones
while driving has a bad effect on drivers. This is not only related to the drivers safety, but also related
to the road safety (Healey, 2015). The findings show the short term effect of a teenage driver cell
phone restriction. Even though the law took effect, it has little effect on teenage drivers use of cell
phones (Foss et al 2009). However, under this situation, there are lots of teenagers like to use the
mobile phone while driving. One of the reasons why teenagers use the mobile phone while driving is

Four intellectuals established Cultural Studies, namely, Richard Hoggart, Raymond Williams, E.P.
Thompson, and Stuart Hall. Hall (b. 1932) has had the lion s share of publicity. Scholars working in
this tradition often take their cue from his articles.
Hall tells us that he grew up in Jamaica, the blackest son (in his words) of a middle class, conservative
family; from an early age, Hall says, he rejected his father s attempt to assimilate into white, English
speaking society (his father worked his way up through the United Fruit Company). In 1951, he won a
scholarship to Oxford (he was a Rhodes scholar) and (as they say) the rest is history. As a student at

During the 1980s, Hall wrote about Marxism without guarantees. Despite his ambiguous relationship
with Marxism, he never accepted the view that the class struggle explains/determines everything.
Nevertheless, he insists that cultural studies can have a practical impact on reality. He challenges
intellectuals by asking: What effect are you having on the world? Since 1979, Hall has been professor
of sociology at the Open University, the distance learning institution.
During the late 1970s, Hall produced at least two papers on the COMS paradigm he called
encoding/decoding, in which he builds on the work of Roland Barthes. What follows is a synthesis of
two of these papers, offered in the interest of capturing the nuances he gave his presentations. The

Comparison of Online and Offline Retail Environment of Car...
The offline retail environment of the automobile industry is that of manufacture to intermediary to
consumer. The process from which the product (car) proceeds from manufacturer to consumer is that
of through the automobile dealer. This intermediary batch purchases a number of models from the
manufacturer and sells them from the lot or storefront. This placement and presentation of the product
has proved largely successful. The tangible product is viewed, test driven and purchased from the
intermediary. An advantage of the offline retail environment is that of the face to face (F2F)

Rather than solely online companies, who may only offer ghost storefronts with no inventory and little
reputation to defend. (Pitta, Franzak Fowler 2006) Value creation has been described as the difference
between the amount that the consumer is willing to pay for a product and the costs of providing the
product. Value can also be added to the product through outside or support (Porter, 1985) activities
such as brand awareness, speed of delivery, after sales service. Resource Based View (RBV) theorists
argue that information technology (IT) resources can be used today in an online environment to enable
a firm to improve efficiency regardless of whether mimicked by competitors, or may yield
performance impacts unique to a firm relative to its competitors. (Melville, Kraemer Gurbaxani 2004)
A major factor in RBV and enhancing value creation better than a company s competitors is that of
competitive heterogeneity. This refers to enduring and systematic performance differences among
relatively close rivals. (Hoopes, Madsen Walker, 2003) Resources are the tangible and intangible
assets of a firm that can be used in the value creation process and the RBV consists of six conditions
necessary for a firm to confer a sustainable competitive advantage (Melville, Kraemer Gurbaxani

Lend Me a Tenor and One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest
Two productions that I had enjoyed seeing very much were Lend Me a Tenor and One Flew over the
Cuckoo s Nest. Both of these productions were great and had very great storyline and I really enjoyed
both of these productions. Each production had great actors and each portrayed their character very
well, by using many of the aspects of the six elements of theatre that Aristotle used to explain the
aesthetics of theatre. Each of these productions had very interesting characters and also had great plots
that kept audiences on the edges of their seats. In each of these productions there were also many
recurring themes and important messages that were underlying the whole play. The design and
furniture of both plays were also very stunning and visually pleasing. In Lend Me a Tenor, there was a
set of a house, which was very neat and very pretty. The house was very great and also had other doors
to other rooms that were very neatly and visually set up. In the production, One Flew over the Cuckoo
s Nest, the design of the set was very horror filled and it was very dark because the setting was inside
an asylum. A lot of the plot production and set and use of characters to reveal the theme was prevalent
in both of the plays. Both productions had very great and visually pleasing sets, but also had
difference in the mood each set gave off. Each play also had a specific underlying theme, which was

The Elements Of Job Satisfaction
1.0 Introduction Job satisfaction can be defined as psychological state of how an individual feels
towards work, in other words, it is people‟s feelings and attitudes about variety of intrinsic and
extrinsic elements towards jobs and the organizations they perform their jobs in. The elements of job
satisfaction are related to pay, promotion, benefits, work nature, supervision, and relationship with
colleagues. Employees‟ satisfaction is considered as all around module of an organization‟s human
resource strategies. According to Simatwa (2011) Job satisfaction means a function which is positively
related to the degree to which one‟s personal needs are fulfilled in the job situation. Kuria (2011)

resulting from the appraisal of one s job or job experiences . To the extent that a person s job fulfils his

satisfaction is supremely important in an organization because it is what productivity depends on. If
your employees are satisfied they would produce superior quality performance in optimal time and

The Impact Of The Spanish Conquest Of Mexico
The Spanish Conquest of Mexico and the Aztec people started when Hernán Cortés led the Spanish
conquistadors to Tenochtitlán and conquered the Aztec Empire in 1519. The Spaniards had
gunpowder, dogs, horses, and armor that would help fight against the Azteca. The Native Americans
wanted to only wound their enemies with their woodened clubs tipped and sharp obsidian that was
powerful enough to smash the Spaniard s helmets. The use of the double bladed swords helped the
Spaniards fight close combat with the Indians. As soon as their chief died the Azteca would back
down. Not only did the weapons cause a huge impact on the Aztec but also the spread of diseases such
as smallpox that were carried by the Europeans affected the population. After conquering the Indians,
the intensions of the Spanish in Mexico was to spread their beliefs about Christianity, find gold and
use them as slaves. In drastic ways the Spaniards changed the native communities, for instance
plagues spread throughout the whole country side after the defeat of Tenochtitlán. Smallpox, measles,
and influenza were the outbreaks that hit urban cities the hardest. In 1520 1521 an outbreak of
smallpox caused thousands to die because Azteca medicine was not affective against these diseases.
The second outbreak occurred in 1531 and it was smallpox again but combined with measles and the
third wave of the disease lasted from 1576 to 1581 killing 300,000 to 400,000 of the Aztec population.

A Window Into Adults WithAttention-Deficit Hyper-Activity...
Much of the awareness associated with Attention Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder (ADHD), has been
linked to children and adolescents. The problem with that belief is that there s an ever growing
population of adults who have been diagnosed with the disorder and live with it day by day. The
process of living with the disability, getting diagnosed and receiving treatment, is an interesting one
that has begun to rapidly get attention over the past few years. The impact of this disorder can range
anywhere from a mild distress to a problem that spreads into all aspects of an adults life. One of the
main components to an adult living with ADHD is the work related one. Adults with the disability

(Adler, 2006). Many individuals tend to have risky behavior; therefore they get in trouble with the law
more than an individual without ADHD. Often many of them acquire several speeding tickets
throughout their lifetime and get their license suspended, in more severe cases they have been known
to cause more accidents, people between the age of 16 30 years of age are already a huge percent of
accidents, the addition of ADHD has given this statistic even worse results. (Weisler Goodman, 2008).
In one case example by Mark Stein (2008), a 24 year old individual by the name of Tom had been
attending college for over 4 years. The problem with this scenario was that he didn t even have his
associate s degree, his GPA was a 1.7 and he drank heavily. All three of points have been often
connected to ADHD. These forms of impairment can often carry a huge burden on the parent s
economical situation; such can be spending money on college tuition when the child is continually
failing courses. In many cases, Adults who live with ADHD often do not seek medical help. They tend
to adjust to the disability and blame themselves. Individuals believe they are either to lazy or
unintelligent . The main misconception within these individuals is that they do not realize these
symptoms were carried over from childhood. Many factors to this belief can be that they did not have

Effects Of The First Great Awakening Dbq
There were many events that occured prior to the American Revolution and aided in bringing it to
fruition. The First Great Awakening in the 1730s and 1740s presented a new logic that had people
begin to reflect on the spirituality in daily life, causing a majority of colonists to question the rule of
Great Britain over them. The religious impact in the colonists from the Great Awakening caused the
ministers to lose authority among those who now studied the Bible in their own homes. With this
change in the authority in religion, it also changed the way some people political authority, as if they
did not need to rely on the higher power of a minister, the there is no need of a higher power ruling

The Indians were not included into the peace made with Great Britain, as stated in Document 3, but
many Native American tribes such as the Shawnee, Creek, and Cherokee sided with the British. They
had hoped for a British victory that would continue to restrain the land hungry colonial settlers from
moving west beyond the Appalachian Mountains. The Indians were left to roam the wilderness. Native
Americans, too, participated in and were affected by the Revolution. Unfortunately, the Americans
victory and Native Americans support for the British created a pretense for justifying the rapid, and
often brutal expansion into the western territories. Native American tribes would continue to be
displaced and pushed further west throughout the nineteenth century. Ultimately, American
independence marked the beginning of the end of what had remained of Native American
independence. Doc 5 Indians will be forced to move again and it is Indian territory at this time. The
laws are for white people moving into the territory because Indians were not seen as

The success of Big Hero 6 is due in large part to it offering something newer and better to its viewers
a fairy tale for boys (the emotional healing story of a boy and his bot) that challenges assumptions of
gender. For the first half of the movie, Hiro Hamada is very much in line with how boys should be. He
takes the initiative, he does not cry, he is emotionally distant, and is not in the business of making
friends. It isn t until he opens up to the other characters and receives help from the magical helper
Baymax, that all of the action starts and he finally just lets go. Baymax is the helper character that is
essential to the development of the hero. Baymax is the person who has special knowledge, special
information, and special skills. (Seger 337) At that point forward, it is clear to see that Big Hero 6
projects its difference in it being a fairy tale for boys. According to the commercials we should all
crave difference and be unique individuals like the iPhone and iPod commercials. We are all driven to
difference as Thomas Frank states. This is one the ways in which advertisers and manufacturers appeal
to consumers, by positioning the product as being different. A product can be the hero, Hiro Hamada,
a product that is all about gender. A fairy tale for a girl, a fairy tale about girls, is conformity. It holds
that the paramount ailment of our society is

Swot Analysis Of Virgin Mobile
The European company, Virgin Mobile, has done an incredible job expanding its portfolio into many
different areas looking for opportunities to give the customer a better experience where they have
otherwise been at a disadvantage. When the brand decided to enter the U.S. wireless phone service
market, many wondered how the company would compete in such a mature market in a country that
might knew Virgin as an airline. The following information uses Porter s 5 forces Model and a SWOT
analysis to evaluate the wireless phone service industry in addition to a recommendation for the proper
marketing and pricing strategy for Virgin s phone services. Porter s 5 forces model provides a
comprehensive framework to assess an industry s long run profit potential and suggests that any
industry s attractiveness can be assessed by exploring five basic forces (Gulati, Mayo, Nohria, 2017,
p. 122). The first force is the threat of new entry. The common threat of new entrants in this market
should be taken into consideration heavily because the United States had six large carriers with many
regional and affiliate providers. While it seemed to very completely saturated, Virgin Mobile found a
virtually unpenetrated consumer age group ranging from 15 to 29 in the market. The demand side
benefits of scale that these specific consumers acquired was very great because phones were
considered a personal part of their identity. Moreover, the large amounts of capital needed to operate

The poem Who s for the game. Essay
The poem Who s for the game.
Who would much rather come back with a crutch, than lie low and be out of the fun?
Throughout the poem Who s for the game , Jessie Pope convinces many soldiers to go to war by
asking questions in every stanza. Who s for the game, the biggest thetas played, the red crashing game
of a fight? , she asks the reader in an excited tone, allowing the soldier to have a very positive effect
on war. Who wants to play in this fight? , as if to say that the idea of war was nothing more than a
boxing game, which was a common sport in the era of world war two.
Most classes (even those who were rich) had more or less of an idea on the rules concerning this
particular sport, and were familiar with it.

The language of Jessie Pope is very informal as it is directed to young men, who in the era of World
war two were very young (aged 16 and over) and uneducated. Who knows it wont be a picnic not
much
. This use of improper slang language could attract the attention of the young and uneducated man
partially because she shares the same common speech with him making him feel more comfortable
with the poem.
Less able soldiers may raise their heads in marvel to the poem purely due to the continuous tempo.
Use of the word lads , is what a higher figure of authority would call a boy e.g. a mother or father.
This is showing that she has authority and is telling the boys what to do rather than giving them an
option.
Owen, unlike Pope has used simile s to give a more effective description of how the soldiers feel and
look like. Drunk with fatigue, deaf even to the hoots , Owen suggests that as alcohol makes one drunk
and unbalanced on the feet, so does the large amounts of fatigue that the soldiers have received.
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud , Owen uses the word cancer as he feels that there is nothing that
can stop the man from dying, a small glimmer of hope but other than that it seems to be incurable. He
has also used visual and sound effects rather than rhyme. If you could hear at ,every jolt, the blood ,
using the world jolt he gives a

Lord Of The Flies Film Analysis
Many students across the United States read the classic novel Lord of the Flies written by William
Golding. The story traces a group of lost boys who find themselves alone on an island after opposing
forces shoot down their escape plane during a futuristic version of World War III. Because of the novel
s uncanny resemblance to other classics, like Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson or Peter Pan
by J. M. Barrie, Lord of the Flies quickly caught fire, eventually leading to two film adaptations. Tony
and Emmy Award winning Peter Brook released the first film adaptation 1963. Brook s adaptation
consists of a randomly selected group of British schoolboys with no real scripts on a tiny island off the
coast of Puerto Rico. Brook takes advantage of the dialogue, visuals, and character foils in order to
effectively portray the theme: darkness in man s heart. While Brook had a small amount of funding
and the boys simply improvised most of the lines, the 1963 film adaptation of Lord of the Flies
portrays the theme better than the original novel. Being able to hear the dialogue between the boys on
the island already gives the film an advantage. In the movie, Ralph s kind actions and his sincere tone
when he talks to Piggy is much more obvious than in the same dialogue in the novel. For example, in
both the movie and the novel, Jack breaks Piggy s glasses. In the novel, the narrator observes that
Unwillingly Ralph felt his lip twitch; he was angry with himself for giving way

Education Reform Needs For A Higher Education System
Education reform needs to be one of the top priorities among our country. Our current educational
system requires people to pay thousands of dollars for a higher education. Students are forced to take
out loans that put them into severe debt for the duration of their live. Low income students, especially,
do not have many options nor are they able to afford higher education and the price is steadily
increasing. It is the government s duty to make this at the forefront of their problems because
education is tied to national success, and will only strengthen our country. Like most things, this issue
is very heavily divided among partisan lines. With the various views on the matter, it seems only the
Democratic party has the best interests of our students. In order to provide a successful national higher
education system in which students won t be in debt trying to acquire a degree, the government has to
bring about serious reform. The steps that have been taken include some form of free college for those
who simply cannot afford it, providing enough financial aid to make up for the lack there is today,
lowering interest rates on loans that cripple our nation in debt, ensuring the needs of low income
families are met, and last but certainly not least providing recent graduates with more job
opportunities. There are people in this country who cannot afford to go to college but should be given
the right, and free college is a right. Democratic Presidential nominee Bernie

15,298 women with an age range of 16 to 88 years old completed an open web based survey. The
authors used multiple assessment tools, which included Bergen Social media Addiction Scale. This
scale is anchored in general addiction theory, and operationalizes social media addiction according to
six basic addiction symptoms which include salience, conflict, mood modification, withdrawal,
tolerance, and relapse. To assess sub clinical narcissism, the authors used the Narcissistic Personality
Inventory 16, a unidimensional measure. For this assessment, the higher the score, the more
narcissistic the individual is. Furthermore, Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale was used to assess the levels
of self esteem in which statements are rated on a 4 point Likert scale ranging from Strongly agree (0)
to Strongly Disagree (3) and measures both positive and negative feelings about the self. Gathered
results demonstrated the positive and significant correlations between addictive use of social media
and narcissism (p .01). Additionally, statistics revealed that self esteem contributed the most to the

Resolving Small Business Disputes in New York
New York is home to thousands of business. Some are international corporations, others are local. In
New York, there are businesses in every industry, and, and some point, these businesses will face
disputes. For small businesses in New York particular, a business dispute can mean the end of the life
of the company, due to its tremendous expense and its potential to damage a business reputation in the
community. Fortunately, business disputes in small businesses do not always result in an expensive
lawsuit, and many are resolved without court assistance at all.
Every business, even the smallest ones, needs a plan in place for handling disputes. It is best for the
business owners and managers to create such a plan when there are no active conflicts within the
company. Each business should have a method for resolving customer complaints, disagreements
between employees, conflict with other companies, and so on. A business attorney is an excellent
resource for putting these plans into place. When conflict does arise, each party to the dispute will
understand how it will be resolved, providing a more efficient method of finalizing a disagreement.
It is essential to handle business disputes as soon as possible before they cause unnecessary animosity
and stress within the business. Businesses may

  • 2. Ecological Imperialism by Alfred W. Crosby In the book Ecological Imperialism: The Biological expansion of Europe, 900 1900 the author, Alfred W. Crosby, answers many questions about the history of European expansion. It is a well written and thought out book with great analogies and detailed information that help the reader understand what exactly Crosby is trying to say. He starts off his book by explaining what the Neo Europes are. They are a population who settled in the temperate zones and are mainly European descents. The questions he is attempting to explain is why there is a substantial mass of Europeans in these different lands which were so far flung from Europe. The European emigrants have scattered among many lands in the world, and have become the leading ethnic group in most regions outside of Europe. In addition, Crosby reflects on how the Neo Europes were able to provide vast food excess. His most important question though, is if European humans have triumphed because of their superiority in arms, organization and fanaticism... or Perhaps the success of European imperialism has a biological, an ecological, component. (p.7) Further in the book Crosby explains his questions to the readers. First and foremost, the history of the stone age is important. The first humans created stepping stones to create a different future that is today. Looking back in history there were massively giant creatures that we couldnt even imagine roaming the earth today. Dating back to the stone age they succeeded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A View From A Bridge Following the Second World War in 1945, America emerged from the conflict as a prestigious superpower and saw the 1950s begin as an era of prosperity and wealth. However, the beginnings of the Cold War saw increased tension between the USA and the USSR and the capitalist and communist ideologies. These clashes along with the rise of nuclear power contributed to a tense and fearful atmosphere, giving rise to a period of McCarthyism. This saw communist witch hunts and people accused and prosecuted for sympathising with the left political economic model. Author Arthur Miller was one of such victims; in 1956 he was trialled and fined for refusing to give the names of communist sympathisers before the House Un American Activities Committee. ... For one, we like to consider ourselves progressive and moving towards a more multicultural world, yet we continue to cherry pick immigrants with the right qualifications and skills and there is still talk of foreign born people taking Australian jobs and being detrimental to the economy. The Syrian refugee crisis exposes further moral and ethical issues linking to the play as even though Australia has granted 12,000 humanitarian places since March 2017, we have done little to help the 5.1 million refugees escaping the civil war and much controversy and division remains over the topic. The structure of A View From the Bridge is linear in showing a progression of time. The exposition introduces the still relevant topics of cross cultural conflicts, justice and the law as well as class through the construction of setting through staging, dialogue and characterisation. Class is introduced through the setting, the Italian American neighbourhood of Red Hook, in a worker s flat, clean, sparse and homely which conveys a working class household. It is also communicated through the characterisation of Eddie achieved through dialogue and costume. His dialogue is quite rough and casual, perhaps signifying lower levels of education, for example Where you goin ? and Ain t . Eddie is then juxtaposed with the character of ... During Operation Husky, the Allies did not have a shared understanding of the mission, did not have a clear understanding of commander s intent, and did not exhibit mutual trust during the campaign. Disjointed Mission Command repeatedly prevented the Allies from capitalizing on the Allies collective combat power. During the campaign, General Alexander s inability to grasp the significance of a German withdrawal echoed the Allies lack of understanding at the Casablanca Conference. On the ground, neither LTG Patton s 7th Army nor Montgomery s 8th Army understood that the true center of gravity for the campaign lay in defeating the German forces and preventing their withdrawal. Instead, the 7th Army and 8th Army sacked one town after another and got mired in various embattlements, which gave the Germans enough time to withdraw to Italy in significant numbers. This strategic blunder was a direct result of the lack of understanding. Commander s intent, the second key component of Mission Command, provides subordinate commanders and units with a clear and concise expression of the purpose of the operation and the desired military end state. Leaders who understand the commander s intent can use that information to fill in any gaps in information as those commanders move their units on the battlefield. In doing so, commanders can achieve battlefield synergy when faced with poor communications from higher. • 10. Reflection Paper On Healthy Food Healthy Food Community Outreach Project Reflection Paper Our group the Kids Next Door was assigned to a Family Dollars Store in 901 Bridgewood Dr. Fort Worth, TX 76112 to conduct Healthy Food Community Outreach survey. This Family Dollar Store opens at 9:00 am and close at 10:00 pm Monday through Sunday. So, on October 19, 2017, Thursday at 9:00 am, our group went to conduct the survey. We enjoyed conducting this survey and it was a great opportunity to learn about healthy food in our Tarrant county. As working with a group on this project, I have gained experiences in teamwork, communication, and exploration. Before we went to conduct the survey, I was kind of afraid to go shopping there alone. I thought this neighborhood is dangerous and was not safe for a girl to shopping there alone. However, after exploring the neighborhood Family Dollar store, my negative thoughts of this neighborhood were completely changed. The location of this Family Dollar store is across from Dollar General and about half a mile from this Family Dollar store, there is Albertson supermarket. I also noticed there was a city bus stop nearby this Family Dollar store. I found this location as convenient for the residents and access to public transportation is another factor that gives people transportation options to get to work and shopping. There were plenty of parking spaces available for customers including accessible handicap parking spaces in front of the store and near the store entrance. The store environment was clean, but I did not notice whether the trash bin was placed in front of the store or not. I arrived there a little bit early around 8:50 am and I saw a few customers walked in the store ten minutes earlier than store open hour. It was kind of a surprise to see it because I did not expect the store would allow the customer to walk into the store before the open hour. Unfortunately, our group member Kayla could not join us for this survey. The rest our group members met in the parking on the survey day. We brought the survey, but we forgot to bring a letter to show the store manager. However, the store staffs were friendly, and they allowed us to perform the survey without a permission letter. • 11. Work Is Calculated As Force X Distance Pg 377: Answer 1: Exerting a force does not imply that work is done. Work is calculated as Force x Distance. Work is said to be done on an object when the force on the object causes the object to move some distance. Ife the object does not move, no work is done immaterial of how much force is exerted. There are many situations when force is exerted but work is not done. For example, if you hold a piece of wood while helping in a project, effort is done to hold the wood in place, but since the force doesn t cause the wood to move, work is not said to be done. The force has to be in the direction of motion to require work to be done. Answer 2: The formula for calculating work is: Work (J) = Force (N) x Distance (m) Thus, the amount of work done can be determined by multiplying Force with Distance. Answer 3: Here two scenarios are given. a. Force of 2N moves an object 3 meters: Here work is calculated as: W = F x D = 2N x 3m = 6 Nm (6 Joules) b. Force of 3N moves an object 2 meters: Here work is calculated as: W = F x D = 3N x 2m = 6 Nm (6 Joules) Thus, in both cases, the work done is same, i.e. 6 Joules. Answer 4: Here, we need to move 5 large cans of paint from basement to the second floor. Let us assume that the Force for lifting one can is 1N and the height of one floor is 1m. Thus, the below two scenarios are taken as: a. When all the cans are lifted and taken to second floor all at once, the calculation for work done is: W = 5N (5 cans each of 1N) x 2m (2 floors each ... • 12. The Metabolic Rate Of An Organism Abstract: Metabolism is used to refer to all of the chemical reactions involving energy transformations in the cell of the body, for example cellular activity such as cellular respiration and its sub activtys like glycolysis, Krebs Cycle and the Electron Transport Chain all produce energy in the form of ATP and a byproduct of the energy production, heat is also produced . Although the cell is not 100% efficient thermodynamically, the energy in the form of heat is lost in the cell each time when energy is produced. Metabolic rates of an organism can be measured directly by the amount of heat lost from the body in a certain period of time. Another way an organisms metabolic rate can be measured is indirectly, by measuring the amount of oxygen that is consumed in a given period of time. In the experiment conducted, we needed to find the metabolic rate of an ectotherm. Using a goldfish (ectotherm) we calculated the metabolic rate by means of counting the number of operculum beats when three different goldfish where submerged in various temperatures. What was found is that the metabolic rate increased when the temperature increased and the metabolic rate decreased as temperature dropped. Introduction: Metabolism is a term in which defines all of the chemical reactions involving energy production. Some of these chemical reactions involve cellular respiration by which is the series of metabolic process by which living cells produce energy through the oxidation of organic ... Online casino gaming can be notoriously cruel to some, especially those who don t play with skill and common sense in mind. While there is no denying that there is risk involved in online casino gaming, it must be said that if you fail to prepare then you really should be prepared to fail. There is no other way around it; luck is only going to carry you for so long in the realm of online casino gaming. Something that continues to shock me to this day is the number of players who throw money into an online casino that doesn t suit their playing approach. If you really want to manage your bankroll effectively, you really should find an online casino that will give you the tools to do so. My advice is simple when it comes to finding what you are looking for, look at an online casino portal. These websites are the ultimate reference tool when it comes to finding online casinos that deliver big on payment, withdrawal, and bankroll management tools. Plus, they also detail bonus and promotions too, of which many can actually give your bankroll a little extra boost. Finally in what may seem like an obvious piece of advice, walking away from the table when things start turning sour is key to managing your bankroll effectively. It stuns me when I see a player throw everything they have at a game in order to turn things around. This act is and always will be foolish and seldom will any good ever come of it. Introduction Mobile phones play a significant part in people s life. It is more than a tool. This essay will firstly discuss the growing users of mobile phones. Following this, it will discuss the relations between mobile phones and driving. Finally, it will look at the reasons why teenagers use the mobile phone while driving. Table 1: Collision claim frequencies for new vehicles by month Source from: Laws Which Ban Cell Phone Use While Driving Not Reducing Accidents Shane McGlaun (Blog) January 29, 2010 Growing users of mobile phones With the development of the technology and the promotion of mobile phones, more and more people like to use mobile phones even get addicted to mobile phones. They use mobile phones anywhere especially for the teenagers. It seems that mobile phones become a basic necessity of life. Relations between mobile phones and driving Using mobile phones while driving has a bad effect on drivers. This is not only related to the drivers safety, but also related to the road safety (Healey, 2015). The findings show the short term effect of a teenage driver cell phone restriction. Even though the law took effect, it has little effect on teenage drivers use of cell phones (Foss et al 2009). However, under this situation, there are lots of teenagers like to use the mobile phone while driving. One of the reasons why teenagers use the mobile phone while driving is because ... Hall (b. 1932) has had the lion s share of publicity. Scholars working in this tradition often take their cue from his articles. Hall tells us that he grew up in Jamaica, the blackest son (in his words) of a middle class, conservative family; from an early age, Hall says, he rejected his father s attempt to assimilate into white, English speaking society (his father worked his way up through the United Fruit Company). Since 1979, Hall has been professor of sociology at the Open University, the distance learning institution. During the late 1970s, Hall produced at least two papers on the COMS paradigm he called encoding/decoding, in which he builds on the work of Roland Barthes. Rather than solely online companies, who may only offer ghost storefronts with no inventory and little reputation to defend. (Pitta, Franzak Fowler 2006) Value creation has been described as the difference between the amount that the consumer is willing to pay for a product and the costs of providing the product. Value can also be added to the product through outside or support (Porter, 1985) activities such as brand awareness, speed of delivery, after sales service. • 20. Lend Me a Tenor and One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest Two productions that I had enjoyed seeing very much were Lend Me a Tenor and One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest. Both of these productions were great and had very great storyline and I really enjoyed both of these productions. Each production had great actors and each portrayed their character very well, by using many of the aspects of the six elements of theatre that Aristotle used to explain the aesthetics of theatre. Each of these productions had very interesting characters and also had great plots that kept audiences on the edges of their seats. In each of these productions there were also many recurring themes and important messages that were underlying the whole play. The design and furniture of both plays were also very stunning and visually pleasing. In Lend Me a Tenor, there was a set of a house, which was very neat and very pretty. The house was very great and also had other doors to other rooms that were very neatly and visually set up. In the production, One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest, the design of the set was very horror filled and it was very dark because the setting was inside an asylum. A lot of the plot production and set and use of characters to reveal the theme was prevalent in both of the plays. Both productions had very great and visually pleasing sets, but also had difference in the mood each set gave off. Each play also had a specific underlying theme, which was developed throughout the play, by many different characters, sets, and symbols and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Lord Of The Flies Film Analysis Many students across the United States read the classic novel Lord of the Flies written by William Golding. The story traces a group of lost boys who find themselves alone on an island after opposing forces shoot down their escape plane during a futuristic version of World War III. Because of the novel s uncanny resemblance to other classics, like Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson or Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie, Lord of the Flies quickly caught fire, eventually leading to two film adaptations. Tony and Emmy Award winning Peter Brook released the first film adaptation 1963. Brook s adaptation consists of a randomly selected group of British schoolboys with no real scripts on a tiny island off the coast of Puerto Rico. Brook takes advantage of the dialogue, visuals, and character foils in order to effectively portray the theme: darkness in man s heart. While Brook had a small amount of funding and the boys simply improvised most of the lines, the 1963 film adaptation of Lord of the Flies portrays the theme better than the original novel. Being able to hear the dialogue between the boys on the island already gives the film an advantage. In the movie, Ralph s kind actions and his sincere tone when he talks to Piggy is much more obvious than in the same dialogue in the novel. For example, in both the movie and the novel, Jack breaks Piggy s glasses. In the novel, the narrator observes that Unwillingly Ralph felt his lip twitch; he was angry with himself for giving way ... In order to provide a successful national higher education system in which students won t be in debt trying to acquire a degree, the government has to bring about serious reform. The steps that have been taken include some form of free college for those who simply cannot afford it, providing enough financial aid to make up for the lack there is today, lowering interest rates on loans that cripple our nation in debt, ensuring the needs of low income families are met, and last but certainly not least providing recent graduates with more job opportunities.
